Seems a bit Leave/Remain but what about the meltdowners? I identify as a happy clapper prone to meltdowns. Not sure where this puts me on the Hornet Spectrum.

This wouldn't have been such an issue had we not been complacent enough to get ourselves relegated. Sure, we probably would have still sold Doucoure had we stayed up, but we would have had a much better chance of holding on to say Pervis and Suarez and integrating them in to the club longer term had we been in the PL this summer. As much as I'd like them to stick it out for one season to see if we can get promoted, could you hardly blame them for not wanting to play in the Champ if they have offers from La Liga.

No, not at all. I wouldn’t begrudge them that. But should it happen, the club shouldn’t have spent the last 3 weeks bigging them up on social media.

If Dawson's head gets 'turned' he is a ******* of epic proportions, considering it was his inability to defend that contributed heavily to the mess we are in.

I normally agree with everything you say but I thought Wilmot had his shirt pulled before he fouled Assombalonga and I don't think Boro will be bottom half or relegation fodder. I think they will be in the top half although not in the play-off picture at the end of the season. Time will tell!

I don't care about him potentially leaving, we have a multitude of similar or better standard defenders, but if he's refused to play, then well, that could spell trouble if he doesn't get the move he's after, I don't expect they'll be banging down the door to buy Craig Dawson

Pleased with the win although it was a difficult game to watch at times. I'm not going get down about how many of the missing 17 players could be leaving nor am I getting carried away with a win. I'm just going to enjoy football being back this weekend safe in the knowledge we've already played and got 3 points.

If any player is caught feigning injury they should be fined. No ifs, no buts. Wouldn't away with it in any other job.

    My thoughts...

    - It's the first game of the season. We won. Perfect start for Ivic and this new-look Watford side. I'm happy.
    - No point reading into the performance too much, or the following few IMO. There have been many changes at the club this summer and many more to come, so it will take a while for us to really find our stride. Also, by this time next month, I suspect our starting XI might look quite different.
    - I'm very happy for those who want to **** off out of the club to train alone and to declare themselves unavailable for selection. These players do not have the desire to play so cannot be relied upon to bust a gut to help their team when it matters. They are a cancer to the club and must be sold ASAP, for the right prices of course. Playing them would also put them at risk of injury, thus hampering our ability to sell them this window and for the best price.
    - Very well executed set piece for Cathcart's header.
    - Great to see big Ken Sema back in the side. I always loved his work rate more than anything. Make no mistake, it's these sorts of players that you need to get promoted. Hope he keeps his place in the side.
    - Joao Pedro did very well last night. So pleased for him. With proper service, I predict he'll score at least 15 goals for us this season.
    - Congratulations to Dan Phillips on his professional debut last night! 63rd academy graduate. Obviously, Ivic's hands were somewhat tied last night, but great to see him place faith in academy youngsters.
    - I really hope that Suarez and Estupiñan were omitted from the squad last night because of injury/covid/fitness and not because they want out. I'd absolutely love to see them play for us this season but if they are the ones who are looking for a way out, let's get the best price and get rid.
    - Very happy we got our first win of the season last night against one of the league's most experienced managers in Neil Warnock.

He also gave a tell when asked about Estupinan scratching his ear . The rest of interview he didn’t show any similar twitches .

Probably reading too much into tbh

    Occasional bed wetter ?

Is a bed wetter a more extreme pant wetter though ?

As presumably the pants are saturated enough to stain the bed

It makes you wonder who would offer Dawson a better deal than us, lets assume he had a reduction in his wages from 30,000 pw to 15,000 the only club I could see prepared to pay him more than us would be Fulham or possibly West Brom but I thought he burnt his bridges with them!

I almost feel like clappers vs wetter as needs a thread of its own . But as someone who didn’t used to post but has been coming on this forum for about 15 years . I can’t remember , did we have bed wetters and happy clappers in the old days eg Boothroyd.

I think I would have been a bed wetter in 2007 /8 when early doors we looked like we were gonna piss the championship as I was fully expecting it to go badly wrong .

Tbf to Navarro. He hasn't learnt the rules on throw-in's yet. Did well for his second ever football match.

Manager, without his assistants, has instilled a team ethic, created a formation and pattern of play with the small squad he has initially been given. When players are fit or not sold on then they can be integrated into this squad and meet the demands of the Manager and the squad.

Last night we saw a team instigate his plan as best they could. Most of the team were inexperienced of the Championship and will learn greatly from what happened to them.

In the EPL there would have been a number of yellow cards given to Middlesboro players. I'm sure the players now know what to expect and will grow from here.

Middlesboro were a typical Warnock team and we won.

I don't particularly care if he leaves either. Just pointing out that it'd make him a rat considering how his performances contributed to our relegation.

Apropos of nothing, one thing that genuinely made me laugh out loud last night was Navarro's free kick. The way he just hopelessly smashed it straight into the wall reminded me of the heady days of Neil Cox.

    Lovely burst of nostalgia, there....

Especially as Ivic was screaming at Cleverly telling him to let Navarro take the free kick. Was almost expecting something but that.

  23. From Boro forum:

The fact is that at this exact moment our squad is weaker than what we had at this point last season but the performance was much better than anything Woodgate managed to serve up.
    and
Its definitely an improvement on last year. We play that team 12 month ago and we'd have been torn asunder.
    and
I know that it is an old cliche but on reflection I think Watford did not deserve to win and we did not deserve to lose.
Take the chances often wins scrappy games.

    To which the reply came:
I disagree. If just swapped the shirts of the players we would be saying it was a perfect performance. Get ahead early and defend comfortable for the rest... easy peasy
Pretty sure that’s how Watford fans will see it.

It appears the Championship bar is not high. I don't know if this should fill me with optimism that we will do well, or dread at the insipid **** that we will have to watch for the next 45 games...

The game was won by small margins. It was a toss of a coin win. We score from a corner, but they miss their great chance from a corner. They had 4 shots on target to our 2. Boro had some good opportunities, but the ball just didn't fall for them.

Had Boro equalised, I think they would have gone on to win. That was the impression I got from it. We scored from our only real chance and had to rely on a clean sheet to win the match. I couldn't see us scoring again.

I don't think it was a particularly good performance, but it was a result that went our way. Had it gone the other way everyone would have a completely different opinion. It's a case of result changing people's opinion.

We shouldn't be in the position where so many players are not playing because they want to go. We are paying their wages and the club should be far stronger with these guys and crack the whip a bit. It's all very well saying I only want players who want to play, but what if they all want to go, as it appears is the case for 80% of players? You cannot be quite so idealistic. You have to use players who are being paid a lot of money. It's crazy to hemorrhage so much money on players wages and not use them, for whatever reason.

Good win, horrendous performance. Positives: Ivic, Sema, Pedro. Negatives: Everything else.

The fact that our owners let us play a competitive game with points to play for with that team is a ******* shambles and tells you everything you need to know about them. Utterly disgusting complacency, as they've been illustrating for much of the past two years.

Selling Pervis for 15 million euro's when we have no recognised left backs and the season has started is just mind blowing. 17 players unavailable is hideous. Don't expect any of Pervis, Suarez, Sarr, Geri, Capoue, Pereyra, Welbeck, Deeney, Femenia, Pussetto to be here in three weeks. If that sets the precedent for what they consider "value" we are about to see the fire sale of all fire sales. If you've taken the line that the squad is to built around Pervis and Suarez then you ******* stick to it unless silly money. This is not silly money just horrendous business.

Lose to the scum because we barely have an 11 and there won't be any forgiveness for the Pozzo's.

I do agree with a lot of this but all the rumours are just hearsay at this moment in time from an account that has been hit and miss. At the same time what if we are trying to shift the dead weight but clubs don't want them? I imagine Udinese will sign a few of them on Transfer deadline day as a worst case scenario.

Have to agree. There’s a thing called ‘professional pride’ and as much as I’m disgusted if we have have 17 players saying they want out, I do think a cross section of them could be trusted to play their best if called upon - for instance, players like Welbeck should be at least sitting on the bench rather than the likes of Sinclair. If there is a refusal to play, then the players need fining - simple as that.

Oh, and if these ****s don't want to play. They shouldn't be being paid. Wonder if its the structure of treating players as transferable assets coming back to bite us? Pretty sure this isn't normal for a relegated side
