Did you want you watch any of the three games Jon? Games generally last 95 minutes and a lot happens in them, stats are just numbers in a column and take a few seconds to read. You can generally learn more from watching 95 minutes off football rather than just basing an opinion completely on some numbers in a column.

Football isn’t robotically binary based on the three possible outcomes of a game.

Plural of those little round things with cotton on them. Often found in sewing machines (well, depending on how often you look in sewing machines).

There's almost a joke in there about having the game sewn-up, but I can't get it to work. Probably because we didn't, until the final whistle.

Genuine question here Jon, what do you think is likely to yield better long term success, a manager being able to play his preferred formation that got him the success that got him hired in the first place, or a manager having to adapt to the players he was given.

Let’s consider Javi here for a second, probably our most successful manager under Gino and was given a four year deal, totally unheard of before and after. We backed him by spending our entire budget and more on a player he didn’t want and didn’t suit his preferred system. How did that pan out long term? Could it have gone any worse if we backed him with that same budget by buying players for him that suited his preferred system?

I’m not saying Edwards can’t be successful by being forced to adapt, but really what do you think is the better scenario for our long term prospects? Would Klopp, Guardiola, Potter, Conte etc. be more or less successful if they were given random players that don’t suit their systems and he told to get on with it?

Did we hire Edwards because he’s a nice guy and connects with the fans, or did we hire him for what he did with FGR on the pitch and should therefore back him here to do the same thing how he thinks best to do it?

We can say definitively that winning in the Championship is more fun than losing in the Premiership.

I think it's great that Edwards has won games playing 343/352 and 433, but it'll be a real shame if the club don't get him the players for his preferred system. It's been clear all summer that he wants to play with a back 3.

The team is clearly a work in progress, but we're picking up points while not playing particularly well - which is generally regarded as a good thing. More importantly, going to Vicarage Road is enjoyable again.

I thought he looked pacy and a menace, but this wasn’t the scenario to be able to judge him properly as it was backs to the wall (to which he contributed).

Blimey I thought this place was a bit doom and gloom at times but least we all enjoyed the win even if we know there is work to do .

This lot have a right downer on Edwards - particularly his subs .

    Did anyone have any concern?

Bayo brought on to add more physical threat up front maybe .

Maybe was risky to take Pedro and Choudhury off but guess fitness played a part and obviously any attacking momentum was lost with the red card .

I think Asprilla would have caused some issues to Burnley had he been able to .

Concern? Perhaps, but they’re still getting used to being back in the Championship, getting used to the manager, riding the transfer window changes (incoming personnel, different formations, players leaving), and dealing with tough opposition. Of the 6 teams tipped for the promotion places, we will have the most points after 3 games despite having played 30% of our potentially most difficult games (although L***n may also come into that category). Yes, there’s room for improvement, and pleasingly RE recognised as much, but more cause for optimism than concern in my eyes.

Results are as good as anyone could have hoped. However those excellent results won’t continue unless performances improve. Hopefully they will. Far better to be sitting here after 2 poor performances and one “ok” with 7 points rather than one of course :).

I watched all three, thank you. But I’ve been watching long enough to know that outcomes can be as important as performance. I would have been astonished if we had breezed through any of those games. But we got away with one at WBA (as all successful teams do from time to time), we won the other two against sides expected to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, we showed signs of progress and team unity, we exhibited defensive resilience, and we got a good points total out of three difficult games. There is more to do, as RE said, but as a start it is more cause for optimism than most expected before the season began.

I might be in the minority, but I thought Sarr was useless last night. As always he could do something, so he always seems to pose a passive threat, but I don't think replacing him was a bad shout.

Asprilla didn't seem the logical choice trying to keep the lead, but it's good to see he's not one for completely shutting up shop

Very much agree with this. The dominant swagger we want our Watford teams to show at this level, and which after our two previous seasons at this level we instinctively know is what makes an auto promotion contender, comes from building the base we are now. I get the impression some on here are already judging the team against the finished (or rather, hoped for) product when assessing performances.

Obviously the first, but good managers adapt to the circumstances - see Conte at Chelsea. There were concerns about RE before he came -he was wedded to his system, it got found out in the second half of the season at FGR - and his adaptability is a positive. It may be that in the remaining 3 weeks of the season we will sell Sarr and buy the players that allow RE to play his preferred way. But if not, he has shown the flexibility to adopt his style to the players he has, and him having to do so might mean we’ve kept Sarr, which is a significant positive at this level.

I know we want to see what Okoye can do, but if Bachmann can keep up this form for the majority of the season then I have no problem with that. I am sure we will see Okoye against MK Dons at some point. Really a step up from in professionalism from Foster's antics. Keeps his mind on the game and obviously still loves what he does.

Yesterday was the refs first game in the championship, he has been promoted, thought Kamara should have been booked after about 5 mins on his 3rd rash tackle, however the ref let them all go and then didn’t get his card out until Gosling did something he didn’t like (didn’t see what), he had no authority until he decided Kamara gave him no option, although I was half expecting a yellow to come out considering his lack of officiating.

Dreadful the defender out to crock Benny should have been booked for both attempted muggings
The cb handball just before half time ignored
Watford are a team of alehouse brawlers and were allowed to bend and break most of the rules by this incompetent fool.He couldn't even recognise Watfords diving and constant foul throws.

Which is fine, but I’ve no idea why you’d defend the choice of not backing him and forcing him to have to adapt, there was absolutely no point of hiring him if we aren’t going to give him what he needs to play his preferred system. Just because he can adapt, doesn’t mean he should have to or that it’s right he has to. It makes absolutely no sense, just rehire Munoz if you want a patsy. If I tie a hand behind my back I can adapt and manage to go about my daily business, but generally it’s easier with two and if I’ve got the choice I’d rather have the use of both of them.

Gosling didn’t get booked. First card was Kamara’s red.

I didn’t mind the ref’s performance too much. Possibly he was too lenient but he was equally lenient for both sides and that works fine for me. The downside is it allows the savvy pros to get away with more. Kamara soon realised he could whack his opponent (although I thought only the first of the three you mention was a deliberate hack), Barnes got away with his normal sh1thousing for too long and Cork was obviously brought on at HT with a specific job in mind as at the first opportunity to clattered Choudhury with no chance of winning the ball. Ref let it all ride though and that meant tempers were fraying a bit by the end. Suspect the ref’s assessor will suggest he could have avoided a lot of grief for himself near the end by managing the game a bit more strictly early on.
