If the rumours are true - this better be part of a bigger plan. We’re not just selling a striker, it’s the Club captain, the last link to where we were as a club pre-Pozzo, and the only guy we have who can seemingly motivate the whole team and change games.

I’m more than concerned at the moment...but live in hope it’s part of a bigger plan.

I cannot seriously believe that we are about to sell Deeney. Pozzo wouldn't give up so easily, would he?

Perhaps the Pozzo's have had enough and are beginning to assett strip before selling what is left of WFC :(

Troy Deeney is in 'advanced talks' with West Brom and his £21 million transfer to the Hawthorns is set to be completed imminently, according to the Sun.

Given the situation we are in, this is absolute madness to sell a player as influential as Deeney to a relegation rival.

It would be nice for them to at least give us some assurances.. Perhaps they didn’t think at the time that turning down £10m was that big a deal as they had their man and we were heading in the right direction. Then it all went pear shaped. I am not confident they will stay around if we go down. Their plan was to get in the PL and grow to become an established PL team. It is looking quite possible we may not be in the PL after this season (as performances have been going) and therefore the cash cow stops giving.

lots of upset with players now asking to leave because the way the club is being run from the top. As a direct result that moral at club is at the lowest ever!! With no chance of even putting out a team of players that wants to play here now, an impossible job to turn this around and our new manager is a dead man walking he has already lost the dressing room which is not his fault but head have turned, but we i have to except we are going down.At this moment i can't even see us staying in the championship next year as we need a total revamp. Never seen moral at any club get this low

Can we stop kidding this influence thing. It's not what he has been for a long time. A club captain on his game would've sorted out Success off the pitch with guidance and a kick up the arse. Would've had a word with the gaffer about Richarlison burn out to take the pressure off a youngster. Would've made sure the players clapped the fans after every game as a group to show team spirit. Would've been fit in pre season himself. Would've not got banned twice this season once for complete loss of discipline. Would chase down opponents and make sure others did the same.

I think Troy is a Watford legend I really do. I also think his time with us has gone sour.

Losing him off the pitch is a redundant point. He seems to have lost that himself for a while now.

Ask yourself this honestly. It was Watson pushing away Kabasele and Holebas yesterday. Would that have been Troy if he played?

Perhaps Pozzo feels that Deeney is the reason for the apparent disharmony/lack of spirit within the squad after all he is meant to be captain. He was warned about his comments after the Arsenal match and his disclipine on the pitch has been poor this season. If that is the case (and I don't personally think it is), better to cash in whilst Deeney has some financial value.

I would be surprised if he was sold to one of our relegation rivals and imagine the outcry if Deeney scored the winner for West Brom that sent us down!

Deeney would also perhaps be happier playing for a club near his family and friends.

The bigger issue here is selling Deeney to a relegation rival when we are in need of every ounce of inspiration possible in this squad. It's a crazy thing to do and is likely to come back and haunt us. Just imagine when we play West Brom at home in a crucial relegation match and we see Deeney doing his best to ensure we lose.

Of course Deeney would have been the first to the fans, as he always is. He and Gomes are the only two that bother walking around the pitch at home, no matter what the score is. Deeney would have been in the thick of it, and I doubt fans would have been quite so aggressive towards Deeney in the first place, because of the respect he commands.

One day Deeney WILL go, of course he will. Maybe at the end of this season is the right time. But to do it now, when we're in such a delicate position is just not right, IMO.

To your last point, yes I honestly think he would have.

Your points at the top of your post are fair enough. But like it or not, he is our captain. And our best striker at the minute. When we are in the situation we are in right now, to consider selling him is madness. If he wants to go, tell him he can go in the summer. £21m is a great price for him. But not now. And not to a club who we are directly competing with. Benitez has said Mitrovic isn’t allowed to leave Newcastle to anyone in and around them and he is far less valuable to them than Deeney is to us.

We aren’t drowning but we are certainly thrashing around and sinking. By selling Deeney, we are pushing the life-buoy further away and don’t seem to be showing signs of calling the coastguard.

Totally agree. Trouble for us is in a season turned into back stabbing and manipulating, underperforming and poor discipline. Where is our leader and captain?

Remember when we nearly went bust after Vialli and Neil Cox as captain got the players to agree a pay cut. They then had a great cup run and earnt the money back for themselves. That's what we need now and have done since Everton made the boat rock in the first place.

He's always last and it's called milking applause. Look I respect him and think he's earnt every bit of good will down the years. My point is simple though. You say big loss based on what he could contribute as a captain not what he is and should be contributing.

Gino is not throwing in the towel. It's a pragmatic business for him. Of course they want to stay in the PL. If Deeney is sold the funds will be made available for other signings. They may be loans or permanent signings but will be done with a view to help Gracia. Gino sees Deeney as a dwindling return and the last opportunity to make money on him. It is a calculated gamble like most things in football. Cash in on him or go down and thereby lose a much larger revenue stream.

There is far too much negativity and hysteria. It is understandable with the lack of clear communication from the board room, the strained relations players have had with the previous coach and the ongoing injury crisis. Deeney will always be a club legend. He had the gumption to learn his errors and while some may have castigated him for opening his mouth he at least spoke the truth. He will be a miss if he does depart and he will always be welcomed back here with a right royal cheer buy I do trust a man who has plenty of experience in running a football club to bring in other players and ensure we retain our PL status.

All this speculation, turmoil and dark thoughts are not going to help one iota. Get behind the board, the manager and those who will continue to wear the yellow and black.

As much as I don't want Deeney to go, Pozzo is bound to be thinking that the £21m will pay off Silvia's £17m contract.

I agree with most of this Smudge, but I'm not sure the board's communication would really change anything. What could they say - we have had a list of targets and are missing out on them? We would like to sell Troy and bring in some fresh talent? We are getting a bit desperate? There is little that can be said right now to cure the fans hysteria, but much that could inflame it more.

There are 2 Premier Leagues and we are never going to be a top 6/7 side so everyone else will always be a relegation rival. Sure Gino/Duxbury may have said/thought we could push on and not be happy with 17th but what else can they say that looks remotely positive. No one else is going to pay the sought of money we are looking for-for me if it happens its about who-if anyone- we bring in

He's really not - as crap as Gray is our best performances this season were with him starting. Deeney has had less of an impact on our season than Gray, and that really says something. As for him being our captain, there have already been the points made about his ill-discipline, lack of form and fitness recently, but even more than that if he his such a great leader and captain off the pitch then why has he been reigning over three seasons of dramatic second-half slumps with season-by-season declining dressing room morale?! A better captain would help engender a better dressing room atmosphere than we seem to have at the moment, where the prevailing mood is lots of bitch1ing and moaning, and Deeney himself is one of the main culprits of that. On the pitch nowadays he spends most his time chasing shadows and moaning at the ref, off the pitch he seems lazy and arrogant. I really don't buy that he's such a positive influence in the dressing room; his time is over and he is not the type of player we should be aspiring to as our captain. I wouldn't be surprised if morale improved once his over-inflated ego and belly are done clogging up the dressing room.

Anything around £2omil and we should be biting the buying club's arm off - Deeney isn't good enough, Remy is more the kind of striker we need, and we need the money to upgrade other positions.

Troy has been a wonderful servant for our club, but this season has been his worst since he joined us. Not just a lack of goals but seven matches missed due to suspension.

The perfectly valid argument about not selling him to a club also fighting relegation surely only works as long as you also accept two other premises. Namely that a move elsewhere will make Troy miraculously return to the great form we know he is capable of. And any like for like replacement won’t score more goals and win us more points than he would have done had he staged.
