Loan day can be a dangerous time. A good friend of mine ventured onto ebay after a night on the drink. Woke up the proud owner of a small speed boat. Complete with gaping hole and no engine. Best £900 he'll ever spend.

How has it been going anyway, Simmsy?

  5. simms

    simms vBookie

Yeh. I've heard a story of sombody buying 7 copies of "The history of the helicopter" while drunk. Apparently it seemed interesting at the time.

Been going well thanks. Enrolling in my modules officially today.

You'd better get them sorted. Surely the doctor can provide some ointment.

I've gone off to Uni this year, yet I've read Adrian Mole, and enjoyed it. As for a TV license, 5 of us in our house, £2.40 a month each, so it's minor. Except you mentioned that you have a lock on your door? Then you each have to get your own if you watch TV in your room, even on a laptop or phone. Only a portable TV that runs off it's own battery and doesn't need charging is exempt from the license.

You can watch it on a laptop, as long as it's running on it's battery not via the mains.

My understanding is that watching any live broadcast is covered regardless of power source now and besides you'd need a battery powered router or 3G card so as not to fall foul of that rule.

Portable battery operated televisions always were covered by your home licence.

TBH it's about time the BBC was funded through central government taxes assuming they can still retain their independence. surely there is a cost saving with respect to collecting the fees this way.

No excuse for being sober at any point in the next week then. Binge drinking is the future.

...! Learn to at least tolerate something on draught, it'll help.

Some ciders are drinkable but after i passed out at my 18th after drinking strongbow, i've been a bit put off.

Come on simms, you've got to up your game here mate. Make the most of freshers week and that lovely loan. Mind over matter and all that! Don't get left behind in the first week, get involved in the debauchery and rest when you should be in lectures. That's my advice. The first year of Uni is generally a pointless educational exercise; however, it is good at toughening up the liver and becoming familiar with drinks other than Carling/Fosters/Strongbow.

Tip it in a pint of lager and make a turbo shandy, done the trick when I was younger!

Just for clarification, the Smirnoff Ice comment was a joke right?

  18. simms

    simms vBookie

That's a good idea. Is turbo shandy it's real name?

EDIT: Looked it up, cool. Might try it sometime. Is it readily available in pubs like will they know what a turbo shandy is if i ask for one?

    Wow thats awesome!

    And an extra glass?

  23. 99mph

    99mph 4th Prediction league 2011/12

Why an extra glass? The lager will already be served in a glass

  24. simms

    simms vBookie

    But then it would overflow.

  25. 99mph

    99mph 4th Prediction league 2011/12

You wouldn't ask for a whole pint. Just a half would do

  26. simms

    simms vBookie

I'd be given it in a half pint glass, i'd need to drink half of it, then mix the two then once that's gone i've have half a smirnoff left.

  27. 99mph

    99mph 4th Prediction league 2011/12

Or you could just ask for a half pint in a pint glass....

Simms you have to drink half a pint first! You can make it a dirty turbo by adding a shot of vodka in it as well, gives it a nice kick!

  30. simms

    simms vBookie

    Of course....

    *looks shiftily around*

No, i like it, can't see the point in drinking horrible tasting drinks just to get pissed when i can drink nice ones that get me pissed.

Must've have been a dull Uni then. I've not been in education for [cough] years and I've bloody heard of a turbo shandy!

Hah, had to google that. No I'm not currently no.

When out stuff a balloon under your top like you're pregnant. Lots of attention from the ladies, and if you burst it on the right girl then her killing your baby can mean something back in exchange.

The only time they are an acceptable drink. An even then, you're pushing the boundaries.
