Apparently land in excess of 7 acres is required, which is 28328 m²

Roughly our current land is around 25500 m². That really isn't much bigger.

Sun postal recently went belly up. Could we not get the land from there, fullarians and the grammer school cricket ground and relocate there.
Not a long walk from the now not closing met station or a short jaunt up the canal on a barge

I still think there looks a bucket load of space behind the Rookery. Our land must be worth a fortune. Surely shifting it down towards the new link road must be possible and capable of taking a 30000 stadium

I thought we were Watford FC, not Radlett, Harrow, Kenton or Northwick Park ? Really hope we stay within Watford area if we relocate, otherwise stay where we are. I guess they may feel we have a much larger catchment area if we move a little further south into London. Basically the whole of the metropolitan line could be our territory. There's nobody between us and QPR/Brentford ?

  10. If the incumbent businesses can be bought out, then Colonial Way/Imperial way would be a no brainer. M1 and Rail access. With development partners either utilising or commercialising the left over land, that could be the perfect move.

That said, when there was talk of the national stadium not being built at Wembley, I really thought they may go for Leavesden Commen, near the studios, as there is a load of land, a railway running underneath it, and motorway access.

Either could do the job, but Colonial Way would press every button except staying at the Vic.

No way we will move into Greater London, if this is being considered it is just the Pozzos being prudent and considering all options. There would be far too much fan resistance, including some from this monotreme!

  12. There must be a half dozen golf clubs / country clubs around Watford, just buy one and build it there, golf is a stupid sport anyway

I really do hope that a move isn't on the cards. The stadium has just been refurbished. Not to mention its actually in the right place.

Just look at the recent move of West Ham to see what could await us. I think we also own the freehold after the "buy back the Vic" campaign although I could have missed a remortgage. Arsenal are STILL paying for their new stadium.

I guarantee this. If we move, whether it be out of the ground and in Watford or somewhere else, the atmosphere won't be the same, the tickets will be more expensive and we will wish that we hadn't moved.

Develop Woodside. Close to the motorway, plus it's walking(ish) distance for me. Can't see any reason why not. See you there.

  15. I can't see us building a new development on a green field site. Housing going up is just about justifiable, but a football stadium is another thing.

I suppose they could off-set with the building of housing on the Vic, but any space we go for will be much bigger.

Ive moved the training ground there as well. The leisure center becomes our new HQ. Plenty of dining & entertainment places around.. even a Premier Inn. Easy access to Motorways again and Garston rail about a kilometer away.
Added bonus that it's an historical site for the club.

Too close to Arsenal / Spuds. Better catchment in Watford, if the young up and coming supporters have to travel towards North London, we will lose quite a few to the aforementioned sides.

Well Tesco's took Wealdstone's old ground in Harrow, so fair's fair.

Not exactly stadium expansion, but a question sort of in your area of expertise, Stevo - the electronic advertising board that caught fire during the game yesterday - could it have overheated due to the proximity of the light rigs before the match? A while back, I incorrectly called them heat lamps, but they must kick out some kind of warmth as my understanding is that grass doesn't grow below 9 degrees? Amongst some of the pictures posted of the snow being cleared, some showed a light rig right up by that part of the pitch:

    DXWwfC3W4AEj1LX.jpg large.jpg DXWuhjeWsAAVHGo.jpg large.jpg
The second picture clearly shows the "light" directly over the advertising board. Of course they will have been in this position before, but normally I don't believe we use them so close to kick-off (so the advertising boards therefore aren't switched on so soon after the light rigs have been blasting out their light/heat). Plausible, or am I firmly barking up the wrong tree??

And regarding the pitch - did anybody notice (if they watched MOTD) that a number of the pitches yesterday had brown, bare patches in the goal mouths and near the touchlines? Also noticed the same at the Amex earlier today.

The Vicarage Road pitch was in absolute perfect condition yesterday, so a huge shout out to Scott Tingley and his team from changing arguably the worst pitch in the division into one of the best. The man himself posted this on Twitter yesterday:

Your guess is as good as mine :)

The rigs certainly do give off a good bit of heat.. a bit like a sunbed but one that is several feet off the ground. Ive always believed that grass goes into winter shut down around 4 degrees or lower but it takes a few days running with those temps before it reacts. The growth lights are just that... lights.. but yes the heat is a welcome by product.
Normally you'd get the rigs off much earlier yes and i wonder if they might have been running through pre-game checks on the boards while the rigs were on? The tech people normally run through all the screens & electronic ad boards a few hours prior to kick off.
Though you'd think any problems caused by that would have been instant.

The bare/brown patches will probably be caused by the overall health and strength of the grass plants at this testing time weather wise.

I would say it was an electrical fault caused by moisture getting onto the electronic components. It certainly had the smell an electrical component overheating.

Just a thought that the rigs would not give more heat than a sunny day
Agree that most likely an electrical component and that the heat the rig gave of combined with the moisture caused water vapour to infiltrate the electronic components
Or it could just be a faulty board

i suspect water/snow got into an air vent from the clearance job. The adboards will have vents that allow heat to leave the unit and downward rain to not come in, but a wayward flick from a shovel could spell disaster. Just a thought not a fact

Following from last weekend and the shockingly low turnout they’re getting at the Emirates (who cares, they sold their soul), it got me thinking about the real home of football (ok I imagine it’s been said before):

At Vicarage Road, yellow seats, especially in the family stand, should be black. YELLOW EMPTY SEATS STAND OUT like a sore thumb. People wear dark clothing, with a bit of yellow. Black empty seats blend in a lot more.

My wife is a Derby fan. Yeah ok it’s a well supported club but I’ve been to Pride Park when it’s not always been full. But because the seats are black, you don’t really notice. Alright, they don’t wear any yellow, but most Watford fans only wear a bit.

So we are Watford and our ground should have yellow seats... but in my humble opinion, the only yellow seats should be where we know it’ll be full. E.g. most of the Rookery (not the lower side bits) the middle of the SEJ/upper GT stand. Half the family stand was empty against West Brom. It looks crap.

I apologise if this is an unoriginal post, but it’s such a bleeding obvious and low cost change to make. Considering the ground is pretty full most of the time, I just think it’s important not to have a colour that highlights the empty seats.

I could almost see myself coming along to a fans’ forum to make the point. Be grateful if someone else did though.

St Albans City have announced a 6000 seat stadium development in Chiswell Green on the old Butterfly World site, along with the obvious housing development. I know that the land opposite the dual carriageway has been hinted as a stadium site for us in years previous. Not far from the training ground, would be good to have more of a tie up with them and use this for reserves.
