St georges day

I know......complaining just comes so easy.....must be my heritage.

 

No. English people aren't good at complaining, they'd rather suffer in silence, stiff upper-lip, pretend there's nothing wrong, make the best of it, spirit of the Blitz and all that. I think you must hail from somewhere else.

 

Not from where I am they love to complain ...and moan...well thats her next door when her ol man goes off to do his night shift at the mill and Derek the Dustman comes in for a bit of nooky. Moans n groans all night she does. Derek slips her a few quid for keeping his cockles warm and empties the bin int morning. I dont know. Ill go to the back of my stairs. Totally different to the upper class, ol bean, whatto, chocks away, spiffing.

 

As I said before I've got nothing wrong with people being proud of being English, just that it would have a bit more validity if English culture was a bit more original.

I personally however find the notion of being proud about being born on a certain patch of land a bit ridiculous, but if thats your thing you're welcome to be.

I'm celebrating St George's Day Friday with the best pint of English Ale I can find.

I lucked into a place with Old Speckled Hen on draught last night.

 

Hen will do. Not the pint it used to be when it was owned by the Morland brewery but not bad.

 

And youre so miserable you cant even be bothered to learn to laugh properly

But dont you think that for everyone showing their pride in that way there's someone else who wont, or cant, think in those terms?

My experience of English nationalism has sadly too often included jingoistic overtones, coupled with a siege "i'm not allowed to wave my flag" mentality (while waving the flag)
No doubt i will now be accused of being part of the "PC brigade"
So be it.. but these are my observations.

 

Really i am not that bothered about st georges day, over the years the only thing that interested me about it is to provoke the pc brigade

it's people like nick griffin that make us look bad

We usually share a bottle of wine here on Friday lunchtimes but I can't bring myself to go for English wine over claret or rioja.

Might go for some bottles of Brakspears instead.

St George's day is my birthday, so I'll be enjoying it for sure...in a truely English manner...game of golf, several pints of Timothy Taylor's Landlord, and then a burning hot curry.

And I may even still be fit to come and watch the game on Saturday - that'll bring me back down to earth with a bump

I found a couple bottles of Hobgoblin for my St George's day fest tomorrow evening. I may start early so don't tell the boss.

 

You'll always be able to celebrate it here, so long as it is basically an excuse to drink, which we desperately need in America.

We have a Mexican day (Cinco de Mayo), an Irish Day (St Patrick's), an Italian Day (Columbus Day), and a Polish Day (Cazimir Pulaski Day). Adding an English beer drinking holiday in April would be easy.

In fact, it would probably go over better if you skipped the St George concept and just called it "English Ale and Beer Drinking Day". Gets straight to the point.
