    Absolutely.
All that continued high volume use of artificial fertilisers perfecting our hallowed pea green Vicarage Road desso turf gradually leaching through the ancient soil profile of our famous slope.
The unintended long term consequences don't bear thinking about for those innocent vulnerable downstream allotments...

rampant rhubarb, triffid tomatoes, maaassive brassicae, frankenstein french beans, curly uncontrolled carrots, positively preposterous pumpkins - is there no end to the environmental devastation the growers will have to endure and prizes they will have to win....

When does the f..ing football start ...

Agree .... and for probably less money they could have had a really nice kitchen just by employing someone that actually cares.

    A decent start?

They've beaten a very poor West Ham team who had ten men (and needed two penalties), looked poor at Huddersfield and couldn't beat a very poor Swansea. A decent start would be at least wins from those games, but given how average the opposition is, 9 points would be expected if they're a decent team. Which they're not.

Performances may be poor but they still have points on the board.

Only just made it to the end if this thread. It's been a turf read. 2-1 to Soton. Gray with his first of a dozen goals this season.

Question for me is if Pereyra is fit, do we drop Cleverly (who for me as been one of the top performers this season). For me if Richarlison can play on the right I'd like to see Pereyra - Cleverly - Richarlison behind Gray. Repeat the performance and Bournemouth and it's an easy 3 points against Portsmouth Jr.

Hopefully Austin won't play and we will have the better goal threat.

Could go either way but I'm positive we'll set up well and get something from this fixture.

Our defence does make me a little nervous as neither full back is all about the defending.

  8. I don't think they are the force they have been over recent years, both teams are quite evenly matched

    I'm going a draw

Southampton basically achieved what we wanted to last year. They are going to be one of those teams between 8th and 13th, exactly where we are aiming at, therefore i think this will be a good measure of how good and competitive we are.

    i can't see a lot between the teams 1-1

The difference between the two teams is up front. They've got gabbiadini, we've got a pair of whoppers who are better at breaking the law than breaking the hearts of the opposition. Or something.

Agreed. Feels like they've gone backwards over the past season while we are moving forward. They could turn into a Palace if not careful, and that's something to be mindful of for us as well.

It really could go either way this one.

Will probably lay some money on Watford as the odds are pretty good for what I consider to be an even chance.

Agreed, for too many summers they were selling their best player (usually to Liverpool), this policy was always going to catch up with them sooner or later. The fact that they didn't sell Van Dijk this year shows their determination to halt that policy but I think in this instance it's somewhat backfired.

Austin will be on the bench. We'll be 1-0 up, 5 minutes to go and...oh no, it's it's it's...bahgawd!

They would have sold **** Van Dyke ages ago for that money - it's just because they're sick of Liverpool's poaching that they haven't.

Who wouldn't be. They're properly taking the piss now. Doesnt help that the player wanted to go though.

Me too. We may be underdogs, being away from home as well, but we're not 5/1 underdogs in my eyes.

So the first game after the transfer window is all done with for a few month. I think Silva has got most of what he wanted. He has options now to start with a fast counter attacking side with Carrillo Pereyra Richarlison Gray or stick Cleverly Deeney in there to go a bit more defensive. I hope he goes for it on Saturday as I can see us being a force away from home this season I'm going to guess saints 1 Orn's 2

Silva really not pleased according to reports of today’s press conference from the Wobby. Saying Amrabat was sold against his wishes due to lack of numbers/experience/fitness on the wing. Also said it’s impossible that Success goes now because of that reason. Also strongly hinting that he wasn’t happy with the business done by the club in the last week of the window - hard to decipher whether it’s the fact that so much got left to the final day or whether he’s unhappy with who we got...I suspect it’s a mixture of both.

Perhaps it could be being taken out of context but from reading it, he seems seriously miffed. I just hope it isn’t a case of him being promised certain signings or a certain amount of money to be spent when he agreed to come and we haven’t upheld it - those types of things tend to linger and blow up into bigger issues. When he continually mentioned the LB position, I really think he expected more than Zeegelar coming in.

Apparently Wague isn't available for this game either. So I guess we pray Kaboul and Kabasele can last 90 minutes...a rarity indeed.

I have to say thats pretty poor form from Silva. One becuase it demeans the players who did come in , in the last week.

Secondly, it sounds like hes getting his excuses in early. Even if he is nt , it gives that impression.

Gino has bought him in a whole new first team bar Doucoure and the 2 CBs. Get to work Marco and stop complaining.

I think that's fair although it is clearly annoying as a manager losing a team member without your knowledge or consent, it shows a lack of faith in your decision making skills which is likely to grate.

Fwiw I also thought we could do better than squad players on deadline day. I hope I am proved wrong. Otherwise a great window.

Dangerous to air grievances in public but Marco is not the sort to "do a Wenger" and pretend he's happy. I see that as a positive.

I think Silva is playing a dangerous game here. We've had a decent start to the season, played some very good football and the feel good factor is back.

Damaging this for the sake of expressing views in public is just silly and unnecessary. I am not sure what he aims to achieve.

Its the availability or lack of Centre backs which worries most about tomorrow. Gabbiadini makes clever runs and we need to be awake to deal with that. Redmond and Tadic are decent players and could cause us issues. But we have our own players who will cause them problems. They wont sit back and there will be space to attack unlike the Brighton game. Hopefully like in the Muff game we can exploit the space which with Gray we will do. However if we need someone to hold the ball up he isnt the man. Silva's comments on the transfer policy was interesting to hear. Lets hope it isnt something that causes a bigger issue, i suspect all managers want more and I suspect he is hoping to put pressure on Gino for Jan.
Never mind transfers we need start by trying to keep our centre backs fit...and not get sent off.

I can see this being our first loss. Lack of first choice CBs is a handicap you don't get over in a low scoring league like this one. I also expect another couple of long term injuries into the mix 3-1

It's interesting that on their forum a few of them don't at all want Redmond or Tadic near the starting 11.

We shouldn't fear these players on reputation when their own fans watching them week in week out don't rate them.

From what I've seen of him Redmond is a good player except for his finishing and he'll be playing up front. Gabbiadini, if he's on form, is surely the one to watch. (& I've always liked the look of Long - bit perplexed why he isn't a regular.)

Gabbiadini won't fail to take any chances we gift him from playing second choice CBs. But I think 1-1 realistic as we can boss things around in the middle and prevent that from happening. Richarlison will cause problems for them.

plus kiko would make a great impact once we inevitably take off the fragile glass sculpture that is janmaat.

As an Ireland supporter I can honestly say there is a reason he does not start regularly lots of effort but not enough quality and against Serbia he was an embarrassment I was actually feeling sorry for him by the end of the game, I said to my dad I hope Long plays on Saturday.

Do you watch Redmond as regularly as the Southampton fans, because unless their forum is playing an almighty bluff then I tend to trust their opinions?!

Now I've said that you know he'll go and get a hattrick though...
