Looking up promoted teams' business in the year they went up from the last few seasons, I can see Toney and arguably Janelt were successful in the Prem the next season, nobody from us or Norwich in 2020-21 (though Norwich did sign Pukki, Buendia and Krul in 18-19, only for them to be relegated with a whimper in the Covid season).

    19/20
Leeds: Jack Harrison on loan, which they made permanent, Fulham: Bobby Decordova-Reid, West Brom: Matheus Pereira on loan

    18/19:
Sheffield United: Norwood and Henderson on loan who returned the next season (albeit Henderson only on loan), McGoldrick

Aston Villa: Mings, McGinn, El Ghazi

So it's usually one or two players who go on to be 'successful' the next season (should we go up, I certainly don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that Choudhury and even Hause and Davis reach the heights of some of those players), not to mention we've had to do things on the cheap since Covid

Debate by all means but please do not resort to personal insults. If you do not like what another person has posted then either ignore it or state your reason but there is no reason to start an argument.

Who are you upset with? The guy swearing and calling people dribblers? Or the people who had the temerity to suggest a promotion seeking team might hope to beat Rotherham?

Yes, clearly nobody took command. The ball appeared over Kabasele but he didn't move backwards I would assume as he expected Bachmann to come for it yet he was not only planted to his line but out of position further to his right than he should have been and to compound the situation Cathcart let his runner go. Very poor all round where good communication would have solved the problem. I feel as Bachmann was facing the play he is unfortunately in this instance the main culprit and come forward and caught the ball above his head.

Sure got another belter for you, hope you like it as much as the last one:

Dribblers are out in force, it seems.

I don't really see why you have to restrict the actual business to the summer before the team went up, because the overall point isn't affected by exactly when they were brought in, and in that case Mbeumo and Rico Henry should also count at an absolute minimum from that Brentford team.

Would also say that Choudhury has been useful-to-important for us so far, but is equally turning 25 in three weeks and has never really been able to convince as a Premier League level player up to now, despite coming from the academy of and spending almost all of his senior career at one.

To be fair to Bachmann, I think that's the defender's ball, but even if you take the view that he should have taken it, surely Kabasele and Cathcart know by now what kind of keeper he is

Would Mbeumo have excelled so much had he not had an extra season in the Championship? Rico Henry had also been at Brentford for a few seasons before promotion too

I don't think this is relevant to our exact position now because to be quite honest, if we don't go up this season, I really don't see us going up next season!

I've only just got my head round head round cogs and bedwetters now you're talking about dribblers. It's very hard to keep up

Yes, I know; as I said in my post, I don't see the relevance of whether they were in the Championship for one season or more before actually being promoted - that wasn't UEA's point, it was just how we should ideally be recruiting whilst at a lower level in general - always with an eye to how they might perform a level up.

Not to mention, there is plenty of evidence around of multiple Championship seasons doing absolutely nothing for players who when pitch up in the Prem, so again, I don't think it's about experience there as much as suitability and level of promise/talent/quality.

I certainly agree on your second point - it will surely be quite seismic even compared to this summer if we fail this season. Again, making the strange deficiencies we've been happy to cement with the closure of the window all the more inexplicable!

We've got a few defenders in that category and truth is losing can become a habit and defenders + strikers are the first to let their heads drop...

Well in fairness, it's not as if we've had no signings with a few to the future (JP and Asprilla certainly fit that bill), although we certainly do need to think of the lower league market more!

In all fairness it's mistakes by JP, Kabs, Cathcart and Bachmann. Did Kabs get a call from the keeper? If not you get your head on it. Cathcart should of followed his man. Keeper should of been decisive and collected it. **** all around.
My opinion is Kabs should of taken control and headed away. Poor, poor goal again. The defence will yet again be our downfall.
The sooner Louza is back and we go to a four at the back the better for me.

Dreadful goal to concede. Not sure who to blame really. Bachman should possibly have come for it, god knows what Kabasele was doing and Cathcart was ball watching. Could be used as a training video on how not to defend a hopeful lob in to the box
Excellent goal from Bayo which was by no means easy.
I get why people are disappointed at not winning a game like this but there do seem to be small steps of improvement though.
As for this thread, for two pages it's everything that is bad about this forum sadly

I'd dearly love Bachmann to be more assertive, but the defence should know by now that he just isn't, if in doubt, one of the two should have just headed it away! We're not going to win all these types of games, but eventually we will have to, hopefully we will be free of injuries soon and will be able to win these sorts of games

WillisWasTheWorst Its making less grammar mistake's thats important

Having been at the game on Saturday (just back from the lovely Peak District today), the thing that concerns me is Watford’s tendency to spend long periods in games not getting on with business of attacking and making chances. Rob Edwards rightly said they made a slow start, but once the equaliser went in the team looked much more cohesive and dangerous for the rest of the half. The baffling thing was why they reverted to not doing much for most of the second half and only livening up once Davis came on, by which time Rotherham were in full time-wasting happy-with-a-point mode. I’m hoping things will improve once all our best players are fit and in the team together.
On the plus side, I enjoyed my first visit to the neat New York stadium - a decent atmosphere generated by a 10k crowd.

It's something i've noticed throughout the season so far (and is backed up by data)

We have started slower in both the first and second halves (measured in terms of xG for/against) than our opponents so far on average this season.

Are we really good enough to just turn things on and off like a tap though? We have great forwards, but it's not as if any of our players at the moment are particularly good in getting the ball to them!

Bachmann should command his area, but he is so uncomfortable in coming off his line.
He is looking forward down the pitch, it's his ball. Catch it or punch it.
We all know that if the defence is unsure of their keeper, then you serious problems.
It doesn't help that we have Kabs and Cathcart, but it's too late now.

  35. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Well that's the thing, Bachmann is so set on his line that Cathcart and Kabasele ARE sure of their keeper! It's not as if he's sometimes charging out of his 6 yard box, and sometimes holding back when he should come, everyone knows what Bachmann is going to do, hence the defence should act accordingly and head the bloody ball away when they get the chance!
