Cheer up Chumpolina. There's really no need to get upset about it.

    I'm not sure.

A major contradiction to all this is the fact that Norwich have held on to more players from last season than most teams in the Championship, and despite most of those same players finishing bottom of the PL last season they're already top of the Championship.

    Halleluiah. Thank **** for that.
Please don't bother to enlighten me. Save that for someone who gives a ****.
If you think I will lose one seconds sleep because this boards dribblers know something about each other that I don't, you are very much mistaken.

    Fantastic debating skills there Joe.

Presumably then if I were to look, Bournemouth and Fulham didn’t manage to beat any lower ranking teams away in either August or September?

You set the bar at relegated and promoted teams not me.

So best argue that with yourself Bud. Rules clearly state you can't move the bar half way through to suit a half baked rant.

You’ve completely lost me now Joe. Are you saying is harder to beat Rotherham because they came up from league one?

I'm with you all the way. When they start giving three points for being dominant in matches and stop giving no points for losing one nil.

Clearly that game was something of a one-off for Fulham, you're never going to win all your away games, but none of our away games have been flukes, we had the better of Brum, Preston and Rotherham (and were emphatically outplayed against WBA), but you couldn't say we dominated any of those games

Thats the only bit of sense you have typed all day. That you are lost.

Go back through the message trail and see who mentioned anything about the teams coming up. Who's whole point was we should beat teams that have just come up, regardless, because of that.
Think you will find it was you. Nothing to do with me. Your train of thought Bud.
And now you are lost? Quelle Surprise.
Lost on the one point you were trying to make. What a wally.

You and your chums aren't very good at this.

Fulham finished the season as champions, we'll see where will finish. Consistently playing well and being dominant will always get you results in the end. Being poor, or just about good enough won't get you points in a sustainable way.

Having watched the goal back you can add Kamara to those at fault as well - he was standing goal-side of their CB as the ball was landing at the feet of their player who was about to cross it, but inexplicably he saw that as the time to start casually walking up the pitch! He was literally acting as you do as a defender when one of your team-mates is hoofing it clear, except it was actually one of the opponents readying a cross.

With Bachmann, I wonder if his mistake at the start of the previous game in coming out for a cross which he missed, was playing on his mind and added to his hesitancy in not wishing to come out for another one at the start of this game?

In some ways you can also in part blame Edwards for that goal in sticking Kabasele as the central centre-back, as opposed to Sierralta or WTE who would have at least made an effort to gobble that up and head it clear. Edwards spoke before the game about knowing the aerial threat they posed and that they liked to lump it in to the box, yet he left out our two best headers of the ball!

My point was it’s not entitled to expect to win against vastly inferior teams, the fact they have spent more time in League one than the championship recently just serves to further reinforce the point. And I’m still none the wiser as to who you think Watford should be beating away, without seeming entitled and needing to get a grip.

I hear this, but then I could be wrong/missing something, but I never got the impression Norwich had the same experience of negativity in the dressing room and essential collapse that we did, in part because they don't have the same stated expectations, and in part because they haven't had the constant instability and decline of the past several years straight. They may well not have anywhere near as much to 'recover' from when it comes to relegation.

Still sounds like contradictions again - stability is bad when you get relegated because it could mean you have too many players (and managerial staff) used to losing.

Instability is good when you you get relegated because you get rid of the players (and managerial staff) used to losing.

If Norwich didn't have the same "expectations" then surely that would also mean their culture of being mediocre is even more strongly embedded!

No, absolutely not, we should always be recruiting with that in mind. Not only would it ensure we're better prepared for promotion if happens, but if we don't go up it massively increases the chances of a PL club wanted to buy some of our players and thereby provides us with a revenue stream to keep the club going.

I mean, it's not a contradiction, because it relies on evaluating the context - the context at Norwich is different to the context here. I don't think anyone here would find that a controversial statement.

Yes, following it, Norwich would be much more the outlier, but I don't think that's particularly controversial either - their attitude to promotion and relegation from the Prem has been fairly unique in the past decade.

I don't think it's a culture of being 'mediocre' that is the problem in this conceit - it's a culture of what is essentially collective damage/trauma (that word used in the lightest and most comical way humanly possible) to a dressing room and the players within it.

I think it’s pretty fair to say Norwich have much less expectation when promoted and far less play turnover when relegated, both of which will help with consistency.

A brilliant idea in theory, but very difficult to pull off in practice! How many players are bought by Championship clubs and immediately win promotion and excel in the top flight? Toney is the obvious example, but I can't think of too many others. Besides, while it might be a stretch to suggest Hause and Davis will be Premier League level players, I don't think it's a stretch to suggest Choudhury might?

I remember Norwich already began planning for the next season when Covid hit, it's harder to do that when you are pinning all your hopes on staying up (and needless to say when you're not financially stable)

Feels like you're pushing this to the limit a bit to force a point home. Are you seriously saying you can't think of too many other players from promoted clubs who've gone up and proven capable at the level above? I wasn't talking about players excelling at PL level in a standout way, just looking for attributes that mean they can do well there and have some room left to develop further.

And of course we don't own Hause, Davis or Choudhury. All good players, probably got options to buy some/all of them if we go up, but not currently ours.

One other thing for those who've been slagging off Rotherham - their defender who scored against us, Wood, has scored as many league goals this season as Sarr and JP combined...

An important point. I personally fear our owner’s determination NOT to adopt Norwich’s (more realistic?) approach to being in the EPL is at the root of our obvious current financial problems.
