You can remove most of the "jokes" from the resident wannabes on this forum by ignoring about 3-4 individuals.

Use it if it bothers you! That's exactly what the ignore feature is for.

As will I. It’s only ever one poster I end up in exasperated argument pinball with and he claims to have retired. If he comes back I will put him on ignore to prevent pages of back and forth tangential clashes.

Not looked at the vote and I plan to plough on as before, mix of serious comment, funny comment, and not so funny comment. It's that mix that makes this forum so bloody great as far as I'm concerned. If someone wants to ban me then just do it. Did I really think he was Paul Mersons sister? No. But I don't want to be worrying that someone will complain "it's not in line with forum rules" when I post something like that. Cheese posts? There must have been about 8? We're all still alive !! So hard cheese. Make that 9.

I don’t want anything banned. The poll was whether I liked the repetitive jokes. Since I find them deeply unfunny and they clutter threads I voted accordingly. If people want to carry on their “witty” patter then by all means go ahead.

It's not so much the threads hijacks with cheese or whatever jokes that annoy me, it's the boring and lazy posts like Hogg etc that were never funny and haven't become funny (in my opinion).

The ignore button is very handy but some people need to realise they're not as funny as they think they are.

Disagree. It’s in the ‘in’ jokes like Hogg that make it funny to me. Each to their own I guess.

Different people find differing things funny - no one is right or wrong but I’m sure we can all agree that a forum with no attempted humour and only predicted line-ups will get boring far more quickly than putting up with a few threads with unfunny jokes.

It really is as easy as just skimming past something if it’s of no interest to you. It’s like Mollyboo’s attempt at saying one type of music is better than another. There’s no right or wrong answer, only personal taste and trying to convince people that what they should enjoy reading or contributing is only going to have a detrimental effect to the forum.

A forum like this can never meet the exact requirements of all members. When it is quiet season with no looming deadline and no matches there will always be more banter/humour some of which will be of no interest to a % of the forum. It's not the case that crap is being posted inplace of important news, its just that there is limited important news. I personally think this forum is brilliant due to the mix of characters on it and therefore the mix of posts ranging from excellent technical pieces, to first news of twitter/obscure overseas rumours, to crap jokes. Contrast this to some of the other fan sites where you can tell how low the IQ of all members is and evidence the poor quality of debates. Even the WO comments section is pathetic now and not worth reading/commenting. Its a real shame if we have genuinely lost some key posters, esp HB1 who is often first with rumours from Spain and provokes debate, and Reids who's technical input is really interesting. Surely we can all just put up with some weak humour while there's not much happening rather than us all just sitting here in silence while the tumbleweed drifts past ?

I personally find it really strange that anyone would find it a reasonable thing to have any kind of control over what anyone else posts on a community forum (short of illegal/defamatory/threatening/whatever behaviour).

Do I like every single post that's every written on here? No. Do I find every joke that's made on here, original or not, funny? No. But do I have any right to therefore demand that they not be posted/made as a result? Do I even have a right to complain about them being made?

I think I have a right to take the piss out of bad posts, just as anyone does, and just as anyone has the right to make what someone else would construe as 'bad' posts. But, as others have said, this forum is pretty interesting compared to quite a few other clubs', and nowhere near as po-faced. I wouldn't want to start going down that route, and I doubt many others actually would either.

I am honestly perplexed as to why people find a sprinkling of jokes/banter they find "unfunny" so offensive that they are leaving the forum. Are people really that thin skinned? I find some discussions on this forum interesting, some funny and some annoying (the latter mainly the petty arguments that drone on for pages). But, guess what? When I'm finding something interesting or funny, I read it and when I don't, I either scroll through the bits of no interest to me, or stop reading that thread for the time being. It's not rocket science and I don't then lose sleep over whether a joke made on a football forum rocked my boat or not.
I like the fact that this forum has a good mix of serious football debate and nonsensical banter and doesn't take itself too seriously; on the occasions I visit other teams' forums, it usually reminds me how lucky we are to have a group of fans on here that can have a laugh.

There lots of people who put great effort into providing us with facts and rumours which I certainly appreciate and some healthy debate over issues (some less healthy which can get a bit dull so I skip them), however the diversity of posters and frivolous off piste conversations is what makes this forum great. I have on occasion looked at other teams sites and they are just dull in comparison.

I've been on here about a year now so not as much historical knowledge of the goings as many of you, however the best thread by a country mile for me was the Chalobah thread last summer, informative, hilarious and went off on several tangents when days went by with no news.

It doesn't look broken to me so let's not try fixing it.

Humour is subjective though. Some people might not like Bill Bailey but I think he's a comedy genius.

The solution would be to bring back 'Do I not like that' - as long as it's not abused.

Personally I miss the 'wages' gag. It has dried up since we got promoted. I see the Hogg loan gag is still doing the rounds which still snares some newcomers.

The 'wages' gag is too expensive to keep going with because of copyright payments to the estate of Karl Marx due to the implied use of his 'labour power' terminology.

I’ll be honest , I come here to talk about football and a bit of light humour, however almost every thread turns into an argument of you said / I said / my **** is bigger than yours / you know **** all etc etc etc etc. I think a lot of us on here use a bit of humour to lighten up the mood.

Discussion and argument is good , I like a bit of banter but some of the arguments on here are so childish and uncomfortable without the humour this could be a very sad bitter place.

The much lauded Chalobah thread is very similar to the Delefeou one.

Starts off with the rumour, HB1 declares we've signed him on loan a week before we signed him permenantly (he wasn't held to account). The thread descends into a strange discussion about lineal time and Cher songs, which was my fault, before the ultimate in furniture and wood fitting identification techniques takes place.

All the usual suspects involved, no-one throwing pram toys around and storming off into the virtual night.

I guess talking about cheese was the edam that broke the camels back. Either that or the hot weather and boredom got to a few people.

That’s fine, if being asked not to link to an alleged serial rapist and paedophile is too much of a restriction on poor old you and your delicate sense of entitlement.
