People just see whatever they want to see to fit their own narrative. What’s the point of blinkered debate? Today was our first clean sheet on the road this season. For all the stick our defence gets, that’s three already this campaign. We are building a solid base on which to hopefully capitalise. How can anybody say there was no quality today? There were some very decent individual performances. Aprilla and Bachmann to name just two. And with a run in the side, Kayembe is starting to look reasonably good too. Not an overall quality display as a team, but it’s jusg plain wrong to say there was no quality on the pitch. Why not add the proviso ‘so far’ when criticising the recruitment of the new players? Would we want to be slated in our new jobs after only a few hours of doing them? Bayo looks hopeless so far, and I hate the Bayat connection as much as everybody else, but he’s getting himself into scoring positions at least. Who is to say that, as Deeney and Ighalo both proved, that once the first one goes in then he can really kick on? I wasn’t a fan of Manaj but he won us a point last week with his opportunism. How does a blank today negate that? Why does Gaspar not starting today negate his performance last match in which he nearly scored and started the move that led to our goal? I just don’t get all the trashing and negativity, the throw away one liners full of negativity and conclusive opinions on August 20th. Good grief we all know we aren’t a top two side once Sarr and Pedro leave. There’s a chance of a dull and mediocre season again. But neither have gone yet nor can we be certain we won’t strengthen further. Did our current recruiting team not find Asprilla? Don’t we think Davis will be an asset once fit? Didn’t we applaud the signing of Choudhury last week? Where’s the conclusive proof we won’t spend any of the possible treasure trove should JP and Sarr go? Cynicism isn’t the same as actual proof. I hate that we can’t score goals right now. I hate dropping points when, with a bit of extra quality, we would win. But we remain unbeaten. That isn’t bad for a side recently relegated after a horror season. Surely a base is being built on which any incoming or developing quality should then really start to benefit us? See with your eyes, not what your mind is telling you want to see. Goodnight
We're crying out for a number 10 who can carry the ball and link midfield and attack. Our defence is solid enough. Oh and please play players in their natural position. The balance of the team isn't right at the moment.
I'd have taken that point at 2pm, credit to the lads for grafting again, I'd actually give Asprilla more credit than you are as on another day he could have had an assist or two under his belt, but there is work to do... For all the importance of a LCB, another ball-playing CB, and a RWB (unless Gaspar had a slight knock, it's a damning indictment on him that Kamara was preferred to him on the right), I do think the most important signing we could make is a striker, we're beginning to create chances, but I'm not convinced Davis (for all his qualities) will be much more clinical than Bayo or Manaj...
Didn’t get a full view of that with a grainy stream that kept cutting out, but certainly not much to get excited about. i actually think we have a bit more control in midfield than we had at this stage 2 seasons ago and Asprilla looks like a great prospect , which is all encouraging . But if we do sell Sarr and Pedro I’m not sure where the goals will come from. I did think Bayo had a decent performance . He hit onto some good positions, made some good runs and had some decent touches . So I’m not going to write him off because he missed a couple of chances . He may come good still. But even if he does we will still Need that bit of magic from at least one of those two staying . on paper at least that was a decent point away and still makes a decent start . Definitely need a win next weekend though to keep ticking along .
I guess when the CEO says the manager has a remit to win the league people judge what they’re seeing against the probability of that happening. There was nothing wrong with the performance in itself if you take the clubs own yardstick away.
And what is the probability of that happening. Have a look at the table, and have a look at the bookies odds, and let me know.
The commentator made a point of saying that EFL refs have received 'guidance' to balance bookings in favour playing advantage but can't see how that tallies with the very low card count...
Amazing how stating an objective fact that we are second is ‘screeching’ but those constantly banging on about doom and gloom without any evidence on the field are not. People just need to accept we are almost certainly going to be in the top six and enjoy the season.
Yeah, whatever your views, you can't avoid the fact that we are very poor up front without those three. Davis should definitely help, but we are low on creativity if Sarr and Pedro don't play (and now Dennis has gone).
Context is key though isn’t it, he’s hardly wrong is he? One goal against two teams who will be lucky to be mid table since the players that were never staying have been out of the team. It’s burying your head in the sand to look at our total points tally and ignore the context.
But what’s he supposed to say? That we aim to just stay up? To finish mid table? To scrape the play-offs? He said what we wanted to hear. And just playing devils advocate, so far we are unbeaten and top two. So are we on course to fulfill his aims? Well, much as though we all know we most likely won’t after Pedro and Sarr leave, it’s hard to argue that we haven’t made a fairly reasonable start. A point on the road against an unbeaten side could be argued to be a result that fits in with the yardstick if people wanted to see it as such. I could understand the malaise on here if we were winless or had lost most of our matches. But we haven’t. We are unbeaten. We’ve ended our miserable home run and are picking up points on the road. It’s not perfect, far from it, but surely it’s a start that merely being a recent PL club doesn’t automatically allow us to have. It’s a 46 game season and we’ve come out of the traps quite well.
I do agree it’s not a bad result at all in a vacuum. My worry is we aren’t going to score enough goals to challenge for top 2. Next week will be interesting at home to QPR - a game I’d expect us to dominate and great a lot of chances if we have high promotion credentials.
Burnley are scoring lots of goals but also conceding them at an alarming rate. Edwards can only work with what he has right now. It wasn't a terrible result it was just a very poor game. That also could have something to do with both sides wanting to remain unbeaten?
Didn't watch or listen today so can't comment but I've seen us get d1cked so many times by Preston I'll always regard a point at Deepdale as a decent result. Upwards and onwards
Decent point given the team. Too many backup players starting and I think it's getting too late in the window to sign all the starters we're going to need. Rob shafted, sacked by Christmas and we're back in the Watford managerial merry-go-round again. Happy days.
Without any evidence? We've been relegated, again, and are on the verge of selling whatever talent we have, you absolute whopper.
Do you think that the current squad, including Davis and Louza, but minus Sarr and Pedro is likely to achieve this?
How about the context that 3 of our 5 games have come against promotion favourites, and the other 2 away from home. And yet, in a state of transition, we're unbeaten, conceded 2 in 5, and sit in 2nd. It's a damn good start to the season, all things considered.
We've been doing that for years. The really good players don't stay with us for too long. It's in our history.
The games we won (with better players), were against better teams. The last two games that we've drawn have been against poor to average Championship teams.
Many of the comments on here are similar to 2years ago. If we keep Pedro and Sarr ( a big if I know ) and with Louza to come in ( and potentially new signings ) our squad is probably of a similar standard. No need to panic at this stage
Yep, the one area I'd really like us to put some of the JP money towards if we're going to spend a bit is in a goal-scoring attacking midfielder with a bit of drive. If they can provide a direct set-piece threat on top of that it would be nice as well. An additional striker will probably depend on what happens with Sarr.
I think some activity in the remaining weeks of the transfer window will probably be required to fill the gap(s). If not, some of the current players new to the team would need to improve as the season goes on offensively.
Didn't watch, follow or even see the line up, but 0-0 seems a decent result. We aren't going up without 3/4 quality incomings though. Rob isn't going to get a crap team filled with our transfer mishaps promoted.
Fair enough. They need to be getting 75% of transfers spot on from now on in imo, if they want us to finish in the top 2.
Edwards needs to be more proactive with his substitutions. I would love to see Hungbo given a proper run out with his pace and directness rather than just a few minutes at the end of games.
