Hasn't been mentioned yet. But I imagine his hat is in the ring with his relationship with the Pozzo's. Francesco Guidolin.

People calling on stats and percentages. Guidolin had a 36% win percentage with Swansea, better than Mazzarri this season by 6% and matching Marco Silva.

He is a LOT more experienced than Marco Silva.

I don't think Guidolin is going to get us into Europe. I think he could build a squad with the Pozzo's whilst Watford searches for the perfect heir, a young Mourinho, Villas-Boas type manager. He's used a range of formations from 433, 4231 and 532.

Long term, i don't think he;s right. But I think he could be could for stability and laying the foundations for the Premier League. I think he could steady the ship and build Watford a s project before going behind the scenes at the club maybe.

That said. I would be super stoked with Marco Silva.

Sorry for offending you Troy but maybe step up your game if you're getting dropped every other week...actually I'm not sorry.

    Cheers for listening Troy.

Interestingly there are reports in Italy claiming that Mazzarri chose to leave Watford and wasn't sacked. According to some of the media over there, he had his head turned a month ago when Fiorentina approached him with the prospect of taking over Fiorentina next season.

Will be interesting to see if anything comes of that rumour.

They are welcome to him, I wish them luck though as they will need it!

As much as I didn't like him for us, I think he will do well back in Italy. This gave him a break from the Serie A and he realized he can't do it because of the language barrier. He will go back to Italy motivated and have that drive back. If he does go to Fiorentina I wouldn't be surprised if he done well for them, although they are currently 7th in the league without him and could still qualify for EL so this rumour is probably poopoo.

  8. Giving Walter an ultimatum strongly suggests that learning English was a specific requirement of the contract. If not, all Walter would have to do to get a pay off, if learning English was not contractual, is state that he was not prepared to do so and walk away. Such an ultimatum is a promissory breach under contract law, effective from the moment it is uttered.

I imagine Gino and Dux were fully aware of his ability to speak the language, but also know a loophole when they see one. If Walter had done better, no-one would have been bothered by his English. Given he has gone, the likely 'Quique' clause (the perennial 'contract review' that QSF so conveniently insisted upon, as I suspect we'll find Walter did too) would, I speculate, leave Walter open to breach of contract claims by the club, and allow The coach the opportunity to step down or his contract be terminated.

I suggested this may be the case in December when there was no sign of his English improving.

He certainly has been linked with Fiorentina but of late another former Inter boss Pioli (?) is the favourite I think.

I heard someone called David ( didn't catch his surname) on Talksport at 3.45am today* talking about Nutty Walt. He was quite scathing of Gino, saying our players aren't good enough to be anything better than lower mid table ( possibly true) and that he was not prepared to pay for top players. He didn't mention that RP was injured. He also said that Napoli players didn't have trouble with NW's training methods as they were top players. I didn't like his tone but he certainly had a point.

Still seems weird they appointed WM after they said after Beppe they wouldn't install a Manager / Head Coach who couldn't speak English. I know they expected WM to pick it up over the course of the Season, but still.

    Love that.

Anyone remember when the old admin made up a rumour about us signing Richie De Laet and told everyone to play along. A few days later a newspaper (cant remember which one) came out with a small story saying that we were interested in him.

Makes you wonder just how much these journalists look at the forums.

I expect the schoolboy error was that they interrogated him in great detail on the subject, how fluent he was, whether he could interview in English, get points over on the training ground, read and understand the advisory comments on this forum, etc. But they interviewed him in Italian.

I think part of this was down to the fact that Walter was the man they wanted in the long-term, so were probably willing to make an exception. That kind of makes me feel a little sad that it didn't work out.

Not sure if it's been mention here but someone on Enjoy the Game said Mazzarri stopped the English lessons in December as he knew he didn't want to stay.

I don't know his source but it does seem quite plausible.

The alternate version I've read is that the lessons stopped with the agreement of the club so he could concentrate on coaching the team through the injury crisis. The flip side being the intensive lessons lined up for this summer.

This is quite similar to what I remember hearing at the 'At Your Place' a couple of months ago. Walter was effectively told not to worry about English for the time being, and to focus on getting the team the way he wanted instead. The problem is, it seems like that wasn't happening, either.

I vote for this thread title being changed to "Mazarri to Leave" given that he wasn't sacked.

I believe Slutsky and Don Hutchinson would make a great double act maybe warranting their own tv show.

Doesn't that seem a little counter intuitive though seeing as communication is integral to coaching...noting the interpreters at his disposal? If I've perceived it correctly, the players felt a disconnect because of the language barrier (and also granted they're a bunch mercenaries with attitudes)

Don't get the Marco Silva hype myself. And we'll still be in the bottom 6 or 7 unless we secure better players. There's only so much a manager can do.

Cue a new manager in summer of 2017, sacked in the summer of 2018. And all because the Pozzos say our squad should do better when in reality that aint the case coz the players aint good enough. Walter was unlucky losing Pereyra (the only signing the last 2 seasons I been keen on) when he did, i'm convinced with him playing the full season we'd have gotten 46ish points.

I could live with being in the bottom 6 or 7 if we were playing more enterprising football. What I saw of Hull was quite entertaining, and whatever the shortcomings of our players, they're much better than Hull's.
