I just made the mistake of skimming through some of the comments on the BBC website. Dear me. The level of ignorance and unpleasantness expressed towards our owners, players and soon to be ex-manager (who have all made the mistake of being 'foreign') is beyond depressing. The remarks make contributors to this forum seem like members of an 18th century London debating society

Did not read a single word, but please don't tell me this whopper is claiming he thought mazzarri was a wrong 'un from the outset.

    Surely he wouldn't do that.

Delightful news. Good luck to Walter and all that jazz. We'll always have Man Utd at home. Hope he manages to pack in the fags.

According to you I was in the "Mazzarri Out! brigade yesterday.....make up your mind.

You always say you've never read anything, then talk about the content of the post. You are really quite weird, but harmless.

This may not have been a forgone conclusion, but after his meeting with the owners I'd imagine what he had to say might have swung it. If he gave them all the rubbish excuses he constantly gave after every game, blaming everything else but him they probably thought they had no choice and there would be no chance of improvement next year if he wasn't willing to admit to and learn from his mistakes.

I don't want a 65 year old who by all accounts has had one exceptional season in England and even that was largely down to a combination of things, I reckon Ranieri's skill was 10% of the factor. Easy to say but that's what I truly believe.

In the space of this post you seem to claim you are both a therapist (insecure individual...) and some sort of psychic. You get given a rough ride on this forum, sometimes unfairly, but this whole air of you knowing things a level above anyone else is tiresome. I beg you find one post from the start of the season where you posted about these so called fears that you initially had....

I think people place way too much emphasis on what head coaches/managers say in public about games. As head of a team, it's your number 1 priority to keep the morale of the team up. Slagging them off in public does absolutely nothing other than add pressure to them. What matters is what you say in private. Honest public assessments of your team's performance really serve no purpose unless your team played well. In fact, there's a clear benefit in getting people to focus on you, the manager, being "delusional" rather letting them focus on the poor performance of players.

Misdirection is a pretty important part of the role, no matter how much we'd like it to be otherwise. Managers aren't paid to give honest critiques of their teams; that the job of a TV pundit. Managers are paid to deliver results and there's simply nothing to be gained from publicly slamming on your team's performances in most situations.

Now, if Mazzari honestly believed the excuses he presented to the media and repeated them behind closed doors instead of working towards fixing issues, that's another matter... but that's also something none of us can claim to know for sure.

Well yes exactly. Whether his post match clichés were delivered in Italian, English or Swahili it makes no difference. It's still the same boring old toss that only a toddler would lap up.

After Sannino was sacked Gino said he will never employ another manager for us who doesn't speak English. Why did he do it again?

Rainier I may have won the league recently but he completely lost the dressing room and the players revolted. If he can lose a dressing room of champions god knows how he will control Holebas and Fat Troy when we're knocking around the bottom of the league.

It is absolutely alarming to hear Slutsky has been based in England since January to learn English and he an advisor to Abramovich. Please don't do this again Gino ffs.

For the first time in months I feel excited to be a Watford fan again tonight, excited to see who comes in, excited to see what players join and excited to see how we can build going forward.

The next boss doesn't need to be a rule with an iron fist type or a 'nice guy' just needs to get everyone believing in what he's trying to achieve and how he is going to achieve it and get everyone pulling in the same direction again, easier said than done of course!

It's even easier when you go on Twitter and find a Watford player who played golf with Ian Wright that week.

The only player who I can see played golf with Ian Wright recently is Deeney, over a week before the Liverpool game, as part of a fundraising day for his Foundation, which was presumably organised months in advance.

Heard a whisper that the exec felt misled over Walters English speaking ability (didn't we all?) told he would be speaking English then failed to fulfill. To put into context, that was well before today's news / decision and came from Italian based source with a connection.

The thing is that may well be true but it was hardly difficult to have checked first. If they didn't know the extent of his inability to speak English when they approached him they surely knew by the time they sat in a room with him and offered him the job?

Yes Gino did say he would not employ a manager that could not speak English again after Sannino left the club. Therefore I can well believe what you are saying in your post Chunky.

I was slated by two forum members earlier today before WM was sacked, because I suggested that morally WM had breached his contract. However what you are saying kind of vindicates what I was suggesting, thank you!

Dowling alluded to/said this in one of the fans forums a few months ago. They believed that because he was in Manchester last year that they thought he was learning the English game and the English language. When they realised that he could hardly speak English, they made him have English lessons as the season was going on, but allowed him to stop with that as the troubles in the season started. Dowling then said they had given him an ultimatum whereby he had to learn the language in the summer to the point where he was at a conversational level. Clearly the last few performances made them change their mind.

As you said though UEA, surely they would've checked that out before giving him the job, especially since Duxberry said after Beppe that they will never hire a head coach that doesn't speak English again....
