They have multiple sources in the club's corridors of power: https://twitter.com/coldbrain/status/676877992497422336
Seems like WD have just asked someone at the club? Would they say 'yes, we're trying to sign him' and risk starting a bidding war? The standard press answer is almost ALWAYS "he's clearly a player of high quality but I prefer not to comment on players from other teams". That translates pretty nicely into what WD have said.
I don't know, in the first page of this thread it's made clear by our resident 'Mr Exclusive' that Perotti is signing for us based off WD Sport information. Additionally, if they know they won't get the true answer from the club (like we all do), why bother even claiming that we aren't trying to sign him? In a few months, it seems we've gone from getting this guy, getting Perotti because another club was getting this guy back to getting this guy all based on WD Sport. Have they got one right since the window opened? As in, broke the news?
I have not posted on here yet, but I obviously read with interest what is written, on various subjects. I am currently helping my teenage daughter with A level work on local media, and we have been doing a lot of research. I don't think anyone realises how lucky we are to have a local media site, who are on top of things like they are. A lot of places just have the local paper. Firstly media outlets cannot 'make things up', certainly not media outlets who deal with the football club every week. Do you think Watford would even entertain WD if they were churning out utter rubbish. They must have some truth in what they are saying, based on facts. They are certainly not going to quote sources. Do Sky quote their sources when they break or discuss transfer rumours or any for that matter, or does it just say Sky sources? I hear they are Watford fans too, so they are not going to jeopardise clubs potential targets. They clearly have an in at the club who trusts them to write whatever they give them pretty well. I wasn't registered on here in July, but who was complaining about them when they bothered to go to Germany for the whole of preseason? And from what I understand, they funded it themselves. At least they are trying to formulate stories and find out information behind the hundreds of rumours that fly about on twitter every week. Not just having old players saying how well Watford are doing, churning out pages of nonsense numbers, or saving post match comments from the weekend and drip feeding them to us all week, like some media outlets. I think they are doing a great job and to have the contacts and knowledge they have after just six months of running should be a good thing, not something to moan about. Just don't read their site if you don't like it. Nobody forces you to.
If I was Kevin Affleck, there are far more offensive posts about him or his work I would have responded to by now. As a Watford fan, I just happen to be pleased we have WD, it has been a breath of fresh air. And doing this stuff with my daughter, shows how many clubs have very little support locally, outside of local papers. Can't work out why people complain.
I like the Blue Nile,I wonder where I put their cds? I hope we sign him and keep Ibarbo. Palace sign Zaza ( I've given up on him) and when we play them in February it could be' Iturbe to Ibarbo' or 'Zaha to Zaza'. That'll keep Motty busy!
Getting back to Iturbe. According to an AFCB poster so it might just be sour grapes that they will probably miss out; "Roma fans talking about him seem to think he's a bit of a headless chicken and don't seem at all upset at the prospect of losing him." Could we be chasing another Fabbrini here (has all the tricks but little end product)? or is he really going to be "the next Messi"?? Personally I think us having a Spanish head coach could cause a massive upturn in his performances; it's all in the detail.
The latest "rumours" coming out of Italy suggest an agreement for a permanent transfer has been agreed, not a loan, for €15M. He would switch to Udi in the summer if thing didn't work out in England. Of course it could all be bollox. We just don't know.
Was thinking the same of Adebeyaor. If he came on and scored just one goal that no one else in the team would have scored that got us 3 points, we would rise up a couple of places in a clogged mid table and earn another 3-4 mill.
This guy who works for Sky Sports and Guardian, presumably on a freelance basis. Also is affiliated with DiMarzio. He seems to think its a done deal, player has agreed. Its a 1.5 m loan with option to buy in summer. https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Seeing as this is looking it might happen, it may be prescient to post the requisite YouTube video. This is his wonderkid video from 2 years ago... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1v4XK6uLbA This is his now-faded wonderkid video who now only plays from the bench https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pinlx1w6_l4 Slightly dissapointed that the music wasnt credited to SuperHans and Jez
Exciting. Looks like a good player to lead a counter attack. I wonder if he'll go through the usual 2 month plus 'getting up to speed with Quique' boot camp or if he'll be thrown straight in
Greedy in the 1st vid and up against proper defenders in the 2nd (some better than many he'll face over here). Looks to me he's got the lot, no not quite a Messi but a good PL standard all the same. He should do well.
Deal reported is about 1.5m EUR for the loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy for 15m EUR at the end of the season. But the club really don't want to comment on it by the looks of things, as is the norm for modern WFC. In my opinion there are Italian journalists who have the inside scoop on their side, as there are less silent types at Roma or alongside Iturbe himself. From our side, WFC are tight-lipped and neither the WO nor WD Sport will have been told anything except 'we've looked at him, sure, but that's all we can say.' WFC don't want to say anything more than that because things could change, but they will have shown Iturbe's people that they're very interested and will have negotiated so that if they want to , they can pull the trigger as such whenever they like. They're good at what they do at the club, and they don't want to leak a possible deal that doesn't happen, especially seeing as if it weren't to happen it's probably down to them.
Looks exciting and like he could add a bit of penetration, and in the 2nd video from Roma 14/15 in particular he looked like he wasn't afraid of a bt of contact. Could see him not only leading counter acctacks but doing the defensive part of the job well too. Granted that that is only based on a highlights video where they only show, well, highlights. My main worry is the hair. I reckon he's a modern day samson, and it's all gone down hill since he got it cut. Bring back the mullet and it's a yes from me
I thought in the 2nd it was good that he not only ran with the ball well, but seemed to be releasing it at the right times and wasn't just running around with his head down. Kind of like an anti Nordin Wooter
Was thinking this myself - as he's matured though it appears that he gets his head up and picks out a pass. Could be a good addition with Troy and Iggy getting in and around the box. Just wonder where he'll fit in though? The three behind Iggy will be Troy - but then will it be Jurado, Abdi or Iturbe?
Though the big question.... Who is his international allegiance to? In 2009 he was capped by Paraguay, but in 2010 played for the Argentina U20's? How does that work out?
Is that an extra point in the Premiership like what Ighalo gets for playing for Cameroon in the Oceania tournament next week? Paraguay will do well in the ACON I think. Drogba still playing for them?
Obviously dual nationality (in football terms). Only at senior level are you barred from switching allegiances.
Yep. A bad case of Premature E-Speculation. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/14148280.Reports_Watford_have_agreed_Iturbe_deal_are_premature/
This is what I thought - But if he played for Paraguay in 2009 - a full international cap - How can he roll out for the Argentina U20's a year later?
Judging on five mins viewing of highlights videos I like the look of this guy, in particular that he seems quite hard to knock off the ball. Hopefully should be able to cope with English football if we do actually get him. Quick question - when was the last time we had a tricky, pacy, left-footed winger? I'm sure there must be a few but I can't think of any since John Barnes! All the out and out wingers I can think of were right-footed - Wooter, Slater, Devlin, Daley... any suggestions?
He's a bit like Mahrez...a Willy One Foot...but he is strong on the ball, doesn't look like the physicality will be a problem.
