Nottingham Forest will today turn to Watford striker Will Hoskins to help revive their League One promotion push.

The Reds have agreed a loan deal to bring the 21-year-old to the City Ground until the end of the season.
They have also agreed a potential fee of around £500,000 with the Championship club, if they want to make the move permanent in the summer.
Forest boss Colin Calderwood has been monitoring the former Notts County trainee for several months and was considering a bid for the intelligent front-man even if the £1.5m move for Leon Best had been successful last month.
Hoskins was due in Nottingham this morning to finalise the details of the deal, after Forest reached a verbal agreement with Watford for his services.

Watford only signed him a year ago from Rotherham, in a joint £1m deal with former Mansfield player Lee Williamson.

But he has struggled to force his way into the Watford side this season – making only three appearances. He has also spent three months on loan at Millwall, hitting the back of the net four times in 12 games.

It is understood that Hoskins may not be the last arrival, with Calderwood considering further additions – particularly in midfield – following the 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, a performance the manager admitted had given him extra motivation to bolster his squad.

Forest are also understood to be monitoring Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp, Leicester's Matty Fryatt and Freddy Eastwood, who has been sidelined at Wolves.

“We are always in the market for something,” said Calderwood.

“There is a chance for people to stake their claim for their places, with every performance.

“But there were question marks raised about everyone on Saturday, so you can read into that what you will.”

Calderwood says Forest will not rush into making signings for the sake of it and will do their research to ensure new arrivals will add genuine strength to the squad – which he remains convinced is far more capable than suggested at the Fitness First Stadium.

“We are much better than we showed on Saturday,” he said. “That was the first time we have been second best in all areas.

“It is not something we are going to rush into [the transfer market] because in terms of heart and spirit we are OK.
“But in testing times, we have to be better than we showed at the weekend.”

Looks like Hoskins is on the way out then. I think it is a bit of a shame really, as I think he will go on to become a good player. But he is too far down the pecking order here, so it is probably best that he moves on.
Sorry it looks like things have not worked out for you here at WFC mate, but good luck for the future if you end up going, that is.

Lots of rumours about Hoskins going on loan there. Probably best for him rather than rotting in our reserves.

Good deal for us. Basically recovering what we paid for him if he moves there for good. He's a Nottingham lad so it'd make sense.

Interesting to see the similar fortunes of Will and Billy Sharp - topscorers in League One last January, both move to struggling Prem clubs but don't get a look in, both stay with those clubs after relegation and still don't get a chance, although they both make cameo appearances for their clubs (albeit Sharp has had slightly more appearances at Sheff Utd).

Also interesting that although Will is about 6th choice now that Kabba :)eek:) has started to come good, Sharp must be about the same at the Blunts, but speaking to some Blunts fans at last week's match they all felt that he still has something to offer, and is getting a chance.

But after saying all that, Aidy doesn't fancy Will, and if he goes for £500K we will not have lost much by gambling on him, so possibly good business all round.

I think he'll do well, and knowing our luck - he'll be banging them in in the championship next season against us if we fail promotion (which of course we won't).

I think he has loads of potential but just not with us.

Aidy just couldnt manage his talent / play him / get the best out of him:

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has backed new signing Will Hoskins to fill the boots of Aston Villa bound striker Ashley Young.
Hoskins, 20, moved to Vicarage Road in a combined £1million deal with midfielder Lee Williamson earlier in the month from Rotherham and has already made two appearances for the Premiership strugglers.

"Long term, I think Will Hoskins is going to be an excellent replacement for Ashley (Young)," claimed Boothroyd.

"On Saturday I thought he was steady. Although he started slowly, as the game wore on he got himself into some great positions and he had probably our three best chances.

"He will get goals in any league he plays in. I'm convinced about that."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd believes Will Hoskins can save him the job of bringing a new forward to Vicarage Road.

The Hornets chief was knocked back by strikers DJ Campbell and Heidar Helguson during the summer, and has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his forward line.

But Hoskins' display in this week's Carling Cup win over Gillingham has forced Boothroyd to reconsider his options in the transfer market.

"We still need to add, and if it is right, I will," Boothroyd said.

"But if it is not, Will Hoskins' performance against Gillingham said to me that maybe I wouldn't need to sign anyone else."

plus the other countless times he has said what a great player he is going to be. He continued to play Priskin to no real avail. I think he could of done a job in this league. But £500k is great business as he has been left to rot in our squad. Although he proved at Millwall he still has a goalscoring touch.

Is Aidy to stubborn to take him back if he does well at Forest

He can't take him back. Agreed fees are essentially an option. If Forest activate it we're bound to accept it.

    lets hope we do accept

not the worst player iv seen at the vic by any means but we have a healthy number of strikers now and i think it would be best for all parties if the lad moved on. We get some money paid for him back , he gets first team football, forest get a player who is a proven goalscorer at that level.

I agree. Even if he does have potential, which is a matter of some controversy amongst the posters on here, he is unlikely to unlock it at Watford, where we already have at least 4 decent strikers, plus a couple of "punts."

Best move for all concerned. If Forest have a rough diamond on their hands, good luck to them and to him.

Will Hoskins aims to prove he is capable of scoring goals in the Championship - with Nottingham Forest.

The Watford striker today admitted he was thrilled to be joining his home-town club on loan, after finding himself on the fringes of the first team at the Vicarage Road.

But, with the two clubs having agreed a £500,000 fee to make the move permanent in the future, Hoskins admits his immediate target is to score the goals that earn Forest promotion and, in the long-term, earn him another crack at playing in the Championship.

"I wouldn't say that it hasn't worked out for me at Watford. Sometimes you don't know yourself why you are not picked, why you haven't played," said 21-year-old Hoskins, who initially has joined Forest until the end of the season.

"But obviously I want to play at the highest level I can. Being at Watford, I would still have the chance to play in the Championship.

"Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take a step forward, however. Hopefully, I can do that with Forest, hopefully I can score the goals that will get us up there, that will get us back into the Championship.

"I'd like to go all the way with Forest into the Premiership, that is what I would like to do.

"I don't know what happens at the end of the loan move, this is football, anything could happen. You never know. But I want to score goals here, in my home town, in front of the Forest fans."

Hoskins spent a three-month loan spell this season with League One rivals Millwall - who Forest play on Saturday - scoring four goals in 12 appearances.

Probably got subbed of as he hasnt played a game for couple of months.

    From the Forest forum:
Hoskins - 7, His touch is infinitely better than any other forward at the club, his movement was sharp and he linked up well with the midfield. Should have scored though.

Hoskins - 7 Sound and solid debut. Nothing incredible, but enough to show us he can do the business. Shame he didn't cap his debut with a goal - he did after all have 2 very good chances.

    www.forestforum.co.uk

he did well his first touch and control looked very good, early chance was well saved using feet, and his second chance he snatched at a little but did get cramp as a result so i think he was shattered. made a lot of intelligent runs. looks like he will make space for himself but we will see, good debut overall

Looked good, movement and touch better than anything we have currently got. Could see that after 10 mins or so. Should do alright if he settles in.

Neither of them are hardly prolific . Hopefully John bangs them in
