you know, now that I'm officially a member of the worst fans in Europe.

What a complete joke, whilst not being angels, to say we are the worst beggars belief, particularly after comments made by other UEFA officials recently.....http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156095070604-1103.htm

Apparently there have been 23 incidents involving LFC fans over the past four years, what exactly does an incident constitue??

Is a fan arrested for selling a forged ticket classed as one incident, the same as 1,000 plus Roma fans hurling bricks and bottles at the Mancs classed as one incident. I'd like to see this list, I suppose the Michael Sheilds affair will be top, but still, he hasn't been convicted in a court that has been privvy to the full evidence so guilty or not guilty it cant be said he's had a fair trial.

Like I said, hope I'm still welcome....:) Cheers, Roady

More finger pointing from UEFA, the sorry fact is the longer they keep playing the blame game the more likely another disastrous major final will take place.

Another laughable thing about the final is that UEFA selected a stadium with no turnstiles and just a gate to let people in :dismay:

Well Liverpool may not be THE worst, but those claiming that this report by UEFA is complete *******s are wrong, Liverpool fans are atleast one of the worst sets of fans in Europe. You can't excuse the behaviour at the final by just blaming the turnstiles and ticketing system.

Nobody is excusing the behaviour of a very small minority but the fact is the causes still remain, those causes are UEFA and the shambolic ticketing policy/ stadium choice.

Please supply me with some evidence to back up your theory that they are at least one of the worst in europe. Yes, the fiasco at the turnstiles (or rather lack of them) was down to lots of ticketless and forged ticket holders (who probably didn't know they were forged) turning up aswell as the genuine ticket holding fans, but does that really make them the worse fans in Europe, I think not. This was a Champions League Final organised by the European governing body of football who chose a stadium to stage the final that had NO turnstiles, a final that involved two of the biggest names in European football and who had complained vigorously at the pitiful amount of tickets allocated.
Did they really think that only ticket holding fans were going to turn up in Athens, if they did they are more naive than I thought. Fans who have followed their team throughout Europe during the season were not going to stayaway cos they didnt get a final ticket, they knew because of Uefas ridiculas ticket distribution there would be tickets available in Athens and they took their chance, I'm not saying its right but I defy any football fan who tells me they wouldn't have done the same if their club was in the Champions League Final.

Most bars in the City Centre are pretty good, take your mate to Aphradites for his birthday, tenner to get in, first lap dance free (if thats not a contradictionin terms, I don't know what is), every dance after that is a fiver, worth it though, very cute young ladies and everything comes off, right in your face aswell. Needless to say, I regularly try a pint in there.:]]

I also usually frequent the seventies bars called Flares, only because all my clothes look in fashion when I go in there.

As in most situations there should be some blame going both ways, but as it is football all the blame goes to the people that pay the money - the fans. UEFA should have thought about these sort of things happening before the game which is one of the things that should cross their minds when allocating a final.

Of course some of the Liverpool fans should be blamed, but we are never going to take that seriously unless UEFA accept some blame too.

I think everyone appreciates that every club has a section of fans that they wish would hide away, never to resurface, but to come out with a statement claiming that one tems fans are the worst in Europe is very strong, especially as it is not based on any real cold hard fact. UEFA need to realise that England has come on a hell of a long way from the heydayof hooliganism, and could perhaps use us as an example as a way of pacifying other countries such as those in Italy.

I think it is clear for all to see that England and English teams are always very well represented abroad (In terms of sheer volume of supporters willing to travel) and you will always therefore have have 3 or 4 people per ticket available. This surely send a message to someone like UEFA that they need to make these events more accessible to those who wish to go, rather than those with the biggest wallets, who do not even see half the game.

If UEFA, the Fa, and all other footballing authorities want to avoid the sort of problems that occurred in Athens they should sell the tickets to the true fans first then make whatever tickets remain available to the general public :rant::rant:

Then they would not have thousands of disgruntled genuine supporters trying to get in to the ground. They would also go a long way to curing the problem of ticket touts, as fans of other clubs who just want to see the game will not be willing to pay silly money to do so.

They could offer all the tickets to the clubs taking part first and then say about 2 or 3 weeks before the game make whatever are left, if any, available on the internet to football fans who just want to see the game.

it seems so simple to me, so why don't they do it :rant::rant:

Obviously it depends on what constitutes a set of fans being branded the worst, but reports of Liverpool fans mugging and assaulting each other indicates that there is a serious problem with their behaviour. Obviously I don't have evidence of incidents but although rumours may be exaggerated, there is always an element of truth in them.

Regardless of the reason why UEFA made such a statement, they do have a point.

I do not agree with the argument that any set of fans would have behaved that way in the circumstances either.

A very simple solution to the problem, however clubs don't help themselves.

Just read on the BBC website that out of the 17,000 tickets Liverpool were allocated only 11,000 were made available to their supporters with 6,000 given to sponsors and former players!!

Didn't say that any other fans would behave in this way, I said any other fans would have gone with or without tickets, but we will never know if they would or wouldn't have behaved themselves in a particular way.

I don't know if this has been brought up already but...

    A) English teams are always the scrape goat for 'incidents' (Whatever they may be)
    B) Liverpool have been the most successful English team in Europe over the last 3/4 years, hence having more so called 'incidents' (Again, whatever an incident may be)
    C) A Leeds fan text into Radio 1 today saying that Liverpool were the worst fans he had ever come across! How can he say that, THEY are the worst I've ever personally come across, and what about that final day of the season pitch invasion! Absurd!

I feel for you Roady, it's unfair to be picked on like that, b0ll0cks to UEFA!

I know a number of Liverpool supporters but 2 spring to mind here.

1 has 4 season tickets which he renews every year but rarely goes - he sells the tickets each week at a profit.

Another who does the same with 2 season tickets - he was one who got official tickets for the final with no intention of going but selling them on - got £800 each for them.

What I don't understand is if they know there are going to be thousands of fans turning up without tickets, why don't they try to accomodate them instead of fighting them? For example why don't they have a similar system to wimbledon (tennis not ex-team), by having an area where fans without a ticket can gather and watch the match just outside the stadium on massive screens? OK this wouldnt be the same as being at the match, but at least they would get to see the match whilst having the same atmosphere

uefa are a joke, i titally agree with the above comment no matter what uefa do there will be more fans than tickets so they need to accomadate them rather than ignoring the problem. liverpool fans are great fans very loyal and they are by far no where near the worst fans

    Afternoon Roady,

I think this is just scraping the barrel and finger pointing on behalf of UEFA. Sure, most clubs have their idiots (and when playing in another country even moreso) but I think they're making mountains out of molehills here.

Well it's true, you are lucky another Hillsborough didn't happen at the CL Final, Hillsborough happened part due to fans getting in without tickets.

And what happened at Heysel was a disgrace, your fans caused the death of 38 innocent Juventus fans.

  31. Roadendscally

    Roadendscally Reservist

It was 39 people actually, there deaths were a result of fighting inside the stadium in which a wall collapsed after a charge by so called Liverpool fans and thirty nine people lost their lives in the crush.
It was LFC's darkest hour, but they weren't the ones solely responsible, if you do a bit of reaserch you will find that the then Cheif Executive of Liverpool Football Club, a Mr Peter Robinson, expressed his grave concerns at the state of the Heysel Stadium on two occasions two weeks BEFORE the match, and that staging such a big game was a big security risk. This was at a time when hooliganism was probably at its highest so security was the most important factor. His complaints fell on deaf ears, and like you say, 39 innocents lost their lives.

You say Heysel was a disgrace as though nothing like this went on anywhere else, it was happening week in week out at every football stadium across Britain & Europe, but fortunately people escaped with their lives on most occasions.
It was a tragedy waiting to happen and when it did, it happened to be LFC who were involved, but it could have been any clubs fans. Just a few weeks before Heysel there was an FA Cup game between Luton & Millwall at Kenilworth Road, try and get hold of some video footage of that game and tell me how everyone got out alive, cos I'll never know.

Even now two Italian police officers were killed a couple of months back. Italians for gods sake, and they say WE never learn, the treatment of Man U in Rome, I could go on and on.
I am not trying to justify Heysel, as a lifelong red I am ashamed of it.

But don't tar us all with the same brush, for every idiot thats followed LFC over Europe there are 1,000 that behave immpeccably, ask the locals in Istanbul, ask Alaves fans, ask Barca fans.

Oh and by the way, 26 people stood trial over Heysel and unles you can provide evidence to the contrary, no one was convicted of Murder.

As for Hillsboro, find out why people got in without tickets, if you don't want to I'll tell you, it was because the police decided to open an Exit gate at the side of the turnstyles and just let any tom **** or harry into the stadium and then direct them through a tunnel which led to two pens which were already Full, hence the ensuing crush.

But why were your fans trying to get in without tickets?! Cause you could not afford the £4 charge and why did you all decide to go in the ground and the same time and entry, I know nothing was signposted but surely when you see its full you know its full.

As for Heysel, you blame the state of the stadium, but if your fans were well behaved none of this would have happened, and actually it was 38 innocent Juventus fan, and 1 scouser.

Your fans are horrible, I was at the CL semi-final at Stamford Bridge and I was walking past and the amount of times I got called a 'Cockney *******' was unbelivable, and then someone in a wheelchair said it to me and my mate, and no-one was going to hit a drunk old bloke in a wheelchair' but if the tables were turned and that was a Chelsea fan in Liverpool, calling all Liverpool fans petty names, I really do believe some thieving little scouser would knock him out of his chair.

  34. Magic Hat

Don't get me wrong, I am not a person who sees Hillsborough as a great day, as I know some people from certain areas of Manchester do, as I found out on FA Cup Final day.

I do feel for the 96 who died and there families, but I do not like the way the whole world had to stop for you when it happened. Liverpool fans caused a lot of the events in Heysel, but I believe the saying for that string of events is "what goes aroung comes around."

And football paid respect to your fans, but it was a disgrace to hear that your fans hissed and booed during Alan Ball's one minute silence. A man that done magical things for English football.

  35. Roadendscally

    Roadendscally Reservist

Like I said earlier, do some research, I think you'll find that there was no minutes silence for Alan Ball, there was a minutes applause and it was a fantastic ovation for a fantastic player, so I suggest you have a word with whoever you get your info from.

And as for the 'I got called a Cockney *******' , I wish I'd had a fiver for every time I've been called a scouse ******** or as you labelled us, a murderer. Hypocrite or what????
