    ....aided by £400m+ owner investment.
Cathcart was undoubtedly prem quality at his peak.

He was in the wilderness at Anderlecht I doubt they were paying him 1 million a year, hence him being happy to come to us!

Pr*dl? I liked him. But Quique bringing him back into the fold out of nowhere was another for this list

Actually bringing QSF back was really the dumbest decision of our PL time. Even as an experiment he should have walked after 8-0.

What still angers me to this day about that result isn't so much we lost heavily, but Ben Foster's smiley face afterwards suggesting we were in awe of their quality and how "it was an experience" being total destroyed in one of our heaviest ever losses as a club. I was very glad to see the back of him when he finally left, that reason alone would of done it in terms of his loyalty and commitment to our (at that stage) hopeful cause.

Honestly I think a lot of people need to move on. Mistakes were made, get over it.

Literally haven't heard the end of 'what could have been' 5 years ago.

5 years is nothing. We've got fans who still use things that happened over half a century ago as a way of benchmarking how well we're doing now.

Non footballing people controlling footballing things.
Not giving successive managers the power and resources to run the team.
Paying out excessive agent and termination fees.
Continuing to rely on a transfer model that was ahead of its time but now sadly ancient.

It's neither rocket science nor brain surgery.

This is incredibly weird - the mistakes of the time you mention have a direct effect on the position we are in now, and they are also continuous. They have carried on making them from that day to this, and it continues to have a huge effect on the club's circumstances. The ownership is still operating in exactly the same manner. How, exactly, do you 'move on' from something that is tangibly ongoing?

Big Ben did far more good for WFC than he did bad, and it pisses me off the amount of slagging he gets on this forum. In fact I would say he was probably one of our all time greats taking into account his overall tenure at our club!!!

    He’s a massive bel1end, though.

Also, are you saying it was a historically bad decision to slag him off?

As long as he was good at what he was paid to do, which he was, that is all that mattered to me!!!

In recent years we've had off the top of my head:
    Gomes
    James
    Jennings
    Almunia
    Miller
    Sherwood
    Chamberlain
    Coton

Foster at his best for us was decent, all time great, not so sure. We've been blessed by having some bloody good shot stoppers. For me an all time great needs to have played out of their skin, and made a significant contribution to the club and it's culture.

"Recent" depends on how old you are.:D

You'd probably have to be 400 years old to consider 1964 recent! :D

I did say ONE of our all time greats, and I stand by that as he did just as well as most of those guys IMO and they were mostly all time greats too.

We have indeed been blessed a lot of great keepers, and Big Ben is one of them!!!

My personal favourite is Tony Coton and he never got an International cap, but Big Ben got several.

You mean you don't think a random US sports website has access to confidential salary information from a mid table Championship team? Surely not!

I would say Foster deserves to be in this list as well as they are all excellent keepers apart from Coton. Coton was at another level to anybody I've ever seen

Considering Foster spent most of his time with us in the Prem and was outstanding for large periods, in terms of quality he absolutely belongs, whether you feel his conduct means he belongs in our ATG category in goal is another matter entirely

Been a reset mate. No Bayat. No owing Udinese £14m for no good reason. No extensions for dreadful injury prone right backs. How can you not enjoy this fresh approach?
