Signing HH would surely undermine everything that AB has said about the way that he wants us to play next season?

Who would you prefer as centre forward

    Henderson

    Ellington

    Helguson

I am sorry I would prefer Helguson !

Spot on ... HH is still a legend although their is a question mark over whether he can stay fit.

not really as Helguson can actually play football.

No disrespect to the great man, but I reckon that's about his level now. He was very good for us while he was here but I doubt he'd be a mainstay in our starting XI. Also, if we do gain promotion to the Prem he'd almost DEFINITELY not be a starter.

He is still better than anyone we have, or are likely to attract, but can we afford him?

How about a straight swap for Kabba and Doyley?

What the hell would Bolton do with Kabba and Doyley, use them as program sellers ??

I'm not sure about your first point Master. He's not really pulled up any trees for Bolton and the same can be said for his time at Fulham. Considering they are both the type of clubs we're more likely to be in the near future (bottom 8 Prem) I doubt things would be much different here.

I think we would be able to afford him however. If Cov are going to offer a million we'd be able to match that if not outbid them. However like I say, I don't think he'd do well here. I reckon we'd be able to attract a better calibre of striker.

Lets not forget he was Aidys first choice signing last year so probably not that far down his wish list

Lets be honest, we'll struggle to get any proven strikers at this level (who can still score at this level unlike kabba etc). He's miles better than any of our current strikers and unlike Henderson he has a first touch and to an extent he's better in air when it comes to finishing. Wages shouldn't be an issue if we can offload Kabba, Ellingtonand maybe Hendo (Depending on how many other strikers we get in)

What we also need is a successful combination of players chipping in for goals like we had last time round. Helguson replacing Hendo and then finding replacements for the goals that came from Young and King.

He has just been to Belgium by Bolton to have some more surgery (according to the Wiki page). He could be passed it by now and could end up spending half the season on high wages and injured (I didn't see what he looked like in the few games he played for Bolton in 2008 though).

    A striker, yes.

He scored about 35 goals this season.

who did he score these 35 goals, buubley mate?

Rememebr twots on here saying we should by Deucher, because he scored for fun in scotlands playground league.

    For Peterbrough in League Two.

Sure, it doesn't naturally mean he'll score them in this division, but MOST players have to start in the lower leagues.

Ian Wright, Lee Huges, Kevin Phillips all started in non-league.

Nugent went to PNE from Bury, Dean Whitehead went from Oxford to Sunderland.

He has got pace, strength and his goals have been a variety of tap-ins, headers and long range screamers!

He's being linked with quite a lot of Championship/Premiership sides.

My uncle is a Stevenage fan, he goes and watches them every week home and away, and he use to rave about Boyd!

I think Stevenage get a big sell-on when Boyd leaves Peterbrough, something like 25%.

A good player. In fact Peterbrough have a few good players on their books! Craig Mackail-Smith is a good player too! My mate use to play in the same side as him at St.Albans.

He and Mclean have struck up a nice little partnership it seems!

Plenty of quality players knocking about in the 'lower' leagues!

It winds me up a bit when people just ASSUME they won't be any good at this level because they're playing in League Two! If you've got good technique, pace and strength you can play at ANY level!

Maclean is a very good shout. I reckon they wouldn't hold out for too much for him as well.. I seem to remember reading Charlton were set to bid 500k for him. If that's their asking price then I'd view that as a good long-term investment. George Boyd is a very good player and Newcastle were sniffing around him at one stage.

No seriously Budfrog, Doyley and Kabba are just made for Bolton - you see they play a fast direct long ball game just the way we used to do (this season).

You really should keep up - they won`t fit in with our new precision short passing Brazilian style game, but have certainly served their apprenticeship in the Prem with distinction, and if HH is not a regular starter for them, and we can cover his wages, could be a deal made in heaven.:]]

I love your optimism about our `bounce back to the Prem`. but fear that the impact of `Plan B` matches Aidy`s statement about playing the kids next season.

He has a massive rebuilding challenge and possibly with most of our better players moving on, a mid table finish will be a really good result.

I think that if we can attract better than H fine, but doubt that we can.

A relatively short season or two from a proven Championship striker would be very acceptable until we `hit paydirt` again.

Are you sure ? Have coventry got a million ? I thought ther were in dire financial problems

Scott Fitzgerald, Will Hoskins, the bloke from Dulwich Hamlets, Steve Brooker, Jamie Moralee, Steve Butler, Domonic Foley, the big lump we got from spurs for £15k

We don't have a great history in this market and a lot more fail to step up than do

Peterborough are on the way up, rich chairman pumping money in and one of the favorates for promotion again.

Haven't we been here before though, Hoskins & Williamson spring to mind, as they say once bitten twice shy ;)

Hoskins hasn't really been given a fair chance now, has he!

Williamson played poorly when Mahon was in the side, but as soon as he left he played a lot better! He was immense in the play-off matches!

Williamson is MORE than capable of playing at this level, if used properly (that doesn't include hoofing the ball continiously over his head).

Hoskins, the jury is still out, but he hasn't played ONE game at this level for us!!

Hoskins will probably be sold to Nottingham Forest &their style of play will suit him.

Cov do have funds behind them if rather limited but I would like to see him back . Intelligent player & rather under used at the Grocers Cottage & the Hoofball Arena.

I'm sure HH would like to come back.

I think Hoskins and Aidy do not gel. I think he's dying to get out. However, IF Aidy wants to change our style - Playing Hoskins behind Ellington or Priskin in a 4-4-1-1 could make for an interesting formation.

Although it was only Gillingham he did play very well 2nd half playing behind the striker.

    he's gone.

We will keep Kabba instead lol
