Good points in the above two posts I feel. Constructive comments on ol' Gav eh? Thought we'd never see the day :]]

I reckon Gav still cuts it at this level. If he didn't have a **** partner and we didn't lose the ball so carelessly then he wouldn't be singled out so much.

The problem lies with our **** poor distribution from our back four as much as with Mahon. Poor bloke has to win the ball back constantly during the game due to our inability to do anything other than hoof it downfield, gifting it to the opposition, and because Williamson decides that he doesn't need to ever do such things as win possession it makes his life twice as hard.

Even so, the bloke needs to go in the summer at the latest, as we have better talent in the squad, simple as that. Francis, Bang Bang, Williams and O'Toole are all better that Mahon, and he is therefore holding up development of the squad.

So the time has come to say thank you and goodnight. He hasn't deserved the abuse he has got in recent months at all, but as a player he won't be of much use after the summer - even if we don't get promotion.

I hear that the Daily Mail article is mostly accurate but that it is not a completed deal although the intent is there.

Some other gossip going round - one of our "main" strikers will be gone in January as well. Big Dan is looking for prem football still.

Ellington that is then.... i dont believe the board would be as daft as to sell King....

Big Dan can go with that attitude, personally I dont think he commands the box well enough and doesnt win enough either (and Im not just talking about Colchesters corners)...... not only that but hes got the agility of an articulated lorry. When Heskey turned him and scored last season in the game that got called off due to the flooded pitch, anyone sat in the Rookery will have seen just how slow Shittu is... (to be turned by Heskey is shameful in itself)

I suppose if some of the Prem clubs are till interested then I can see his agent pushing for a move.... you may be right Paddy!!

Heskey is probably the only centre forward in the Premiership to match Shittu for physical presence and he is a better player than you give him credit for (his game against Israel proves that despite his low goal tally, he is still a handful for most Premiership defences) - you're using one isolated example of an abandoned game to prove how crap you think Shittu is? Great logic that...

Aidy admits Mahon uncertainty December 10 2007

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd has admitted he is yet to decide whether to offer captain Gavin Mahon a new contract to stay at Vicarage Road.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been a regular all season under Boothroyd but has been left out of the squad for the Hornets' last two matches and has been replaced by teenager John-Joe O'Toole.

Boothroyd said: "Gavin is in the last year of his contract and I've left him out at the moment because I think that John-Joe O'Toole has come to the fore and is playing well.

"I'm at the stage when I've got to make a decision on his future and I'll be doing that in a couple of weeks' time.

"Either way, I have to say that Gavin has taken it like the terrific pro he is. He's a good player and it's natural other clubs will be taking an interest in him.

"The decision I have to make is whether to give him another contract or not."

NO THANKS AIDY HIS TIME IS UP

I've been suprised how much interest there has been from teams in the championship. I thought that Gavin would stay till the end of the season and then drop down a division but the teams who have been mentioned so far are

    QPR
    Stoke
    Norwich
    Ipswich
    Colchester
    Leicester
    and Bristol City

OK not top notch clubs but someone somewhere has seen some form in him that Aidy isn't extracting.

I still think back to the fact that he was bought by the fat bald italian who played a passing game. Have we coached that out of not only gav but other players as well ?

Read his CV and achievements and then think why any middle-ish Championship wouldn't want him.

    Exactly.

Promotion - gaining skippers don't come around too often.

He will do well at pretty much any club in the division.

    Hope he does to.

You seem to be forgetting that Luca signed him under the recommendation of Ray Loosington! He played under Loosington at Brentford!
