I can't reveal my source but there is a strong rumour going round that Gav will be gone in January.

Personally, I think that would be a mistake but I guess it would all be part of building for the future.

Be ok so long as Al Bangura is allowed to stay otherwise we will have no defensive midfielders unless you call O'Toole one?

If this is true I don't think it would be the end of the world. We have enough strength in depth to cope without him and January will provide an opportunity to buy a replacement if Aidy deems it necessary. Personally I'm not too fussed either way.

Strangely we'd probably get quite a bit of cash.

I could see a whole lot of clubs from Wigan, through Sheff Utd through to Leeds queuing to shift his donkey-sized butt into their teams.

Actually that's a little unfair - I quite like him and don't care if he stays for the time being. Put Damien Francis back in his place and we'd probably begin to miss him, but he's got to go if we get back in the Prem.

Who's stupid enough to want him?? But Hooray...what a great new years resolution that could be.....ps i'll pay for his train fare if its true..

I think we'd be absolutely f-ing crazy to sell him in January. Why change a winning formula?

If we were to sell him in the summer after (fingers crossed) promotion as we build a team more suited to the Prem then fair enough, but why risk upsetting the apple cart at such a crucial stage of the season? It's not like we desperately need the (not that much) money his sale will bring in.

Doesn't his contract run out at the end of this season?

would be silly to sell him in jan as the team is winning and you don't change a winning side everyone knows that little tweaks here and there but not wholesale changes

unless aidy plans to drop gav when williams and francis return though we would be better with him here just in case

I don't rate Mahon at all, he has the OCCASIONAL good game, but they are few and far between!

If we want to progress as a FOOTBALLING team, then Gav needs to go!

Can't say i'll be shedding any tears!

And whoever said we'll get a lot of cash for him must be on a wind up?! He's sh*t and he's also out of contract in the summer!

Same could be said of Jordan Stewart who clearly thinks a better team than us will come in for him and his 'lofted' passes?

If we went up I would expect Mahon to be replaced (along with a number of the side..) as he is slow but what point is there selling him for peanuts?

  17. NathWFC

Because he's only worth 'peanuts' and his contract is running out.

I think its stupid if we do as he is a 1st team player and plays week in week out but smart so we make money from him!

He will never score a better one again in his career ,The day that his career only had one way left to go.

I can't see Adiy selling him in Jan , unless Mahon wants to go , otherwise why else is he still wearing the armband.

I don't think we should let him go in January unless there is a big amount of money on the table.

He is better (mostly) than he was a few months back, and if Bang Bang is deported we don't have anyone else who is prepared to tackle. Willo? No. O'Toole? Not yet.

Francis is back now, and I think Mahon could be a decent pairing for Francis as they are completely chalk and cheese. I am actually really excited to see him back, should add some quality to our CM.

Mahon will say bye-bye in the Summer, not before, unless we get a big offer. Of course, on paper he has been a very successful captain indeed, captained to promotion, captatining us thus far towards another, Premiership experience, FA Cup Semi-Final etc.

    May get a decent price.

don't believe aidy would sell the person who has captained us every game this season to top of the league, sound like a load of cr@p to me, can't see him getting a contract extension though

Neil Price seemed to think Francis replacing Mahon was a sign that his days were numbered. His contract is up at the end of the season, Williams will also be back in Jan, Aidy has said Jay is the future captain...i think the rumour could be true

I don't get the selling him in January though. I understand totally why his contract might not be renewed and I can see his first-team role slowly deminishing as the season goes on, but I really don't see why he should go altogether. We're stronger with him in the squad than without.

I'm not a fan of Gav at all and look forward to the day he finally accepts he's past his best.

However, yet again the Watford mentalilty of making one player the scapegoat is clowding over some much bigger problems.

The first X1 in the last two home fixtures have been nothing short of a disgrace.
They all need a kick up the arse.

If i'm honest, I don't think Gav has been that bad recently! I think he was unfortunate to go off ahead of Williamson on Saturday, and I thought he did ok at Barnsley aswell before coming off!

However, Gav is not good enough to play at this level anymore IMO, he's a league out of his depth, he gets slower and slower each week, and this season his tackling has really been poor, where it use to be ok...not great, but ok!

Francis, although at times lazy, is a far better player, he has a better all round game than Gav, will put the boot in and score goals! O'Toole COULD be the next Ashley Young if treated properly...he'd be starting for me ahead of Mahon and Williamson alongside Francis!

Williams is on his way back from injury, and he's a class act from what i've seen so far!

Bangura COULD be staying if his case goes according to plan!

This IMO leaves no room for Gav! He's been a good servant to the club, always worked hard, no disputing that, but for the past 12 months in particular he's been found wanting!! Desperatley out of his depth and not doing the simple things like winning the ball back!!

It's time to say thanks, but you're off fella!

Decent player at championship level but do you think he'd be able to do a good job in the Prem for us? I'm not convinced, he did recieve a lot of hype during his early days in the Palace first team but seems to have stopped making headlines. Can't remember being overely impressed with him when we've played Palace. Maybe you know more about him than me?

Also, like me, it seems you've got a lot of faith in Williams so assuming Francis will be our first choice centre midfielder (hopefully), is it worth buying another midfielder when we've got a decent player on his way back.

If we're going to buy midfielders i'd like to have a degree of certainty that they'd be able to compete in the Prem, if not, i'd rather stick with Francis, O'Toole and Williams when he's back for this this season. I'd love to see O'Toole get another chance now because he's the only midfielder we've seen on a regularish basis (Francis excluded) who is willing to recieve the ball, pick a pass and get himself into decent attacking positions.
