Skysports.com understands Fulham have made a £3.5million bid for Watford striker Marlon King. Fulham chief Roy Hodgson is keen to bolster his attacking options as he looks to steer the side clear of trouble at the wrong end of the table and has made King his top target. Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd is determined to keep hold of his star striker and had warned Fulham off a move for the former Gillingham hitman. However, Fulham are now believed to have tabled a firm offer for King as they look to bring the powerful forward to Craven Cottage. Watford have vowed they would only consider selling King for big money and it remains to be seen if Fulham's offer comes close to their valuation for the player. £3.5 million?! Are they taking the p*ss? We paid £4.5 for Duke, how can this even be considered?!
Now I'm not against selling Marlon as I believe it might be for the long term good of the team, however, if true 3.5 mio in the current climate is a joke. The bare minimum we should let him go for is in the 5-6 mio range.
......... and what do we do when Watford accept £5mil for him? Nothing. Because thats what we do. We sit back and accept it. Oh and occassionally happy clap.
I don't think they'll accept £5m for him. But if they do it's no massive loss. The guy is very 'on-off' these days. I'd rather see £7m for him.
Whats the bet they accept £3.5m for him and Boothy will feed us some gash that there is no point keeping unsettled players blah blah blah
Very long ones. I know Aidy talks a load of garbage but I don't think he ever pulled that one, even when Young was negotiating a £9m move. Where has he said he's unsettled? Marlon writes a column on the FA site and he doesn't sound like a man angling for a move. http://www.thefa.com/GrassrootsNew/News/MarlonKing/
If King wants to go Aidy may decide he is better off not having him in the side. Young's departure seemed very amicable. This one could possibly be less so.
But the fact is, on - off or not, he is one of the very few players in our team that can create something out of nothing. As long as he is on the pitch there is always that chance that we are going to get a goal, and the fact he occupies a couple of defenders creates chances on its own. Anyone who believes selling Marlon would be for the best of the club is mad. Young went because the price was right, selling Marlon for this price would be crazy. Anyway, what happened to the £60 million price tag?
Its all over.. I remember us laughing our faces off when Watford turned down £1million for Heidar only to see us accept £1.1mil from Fulham (they said £1.1mil, we said £1.3mil) He's gone already.... £5mil ABSOLUTE TOPS.
From an Aidy valuation of £60 mill to £3.5 mill - I know he missed a penalty but.............. Seriously, at £3.5 mill there would be a queue at London Colney. Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Bolton, Reading, Villa, QPR to name just a few.
When I said media hype mate that was what I was referring to really. The insinuation that £3.5m might be considered big money by us. To sell at that price would just undermine the business credentials of our board. Regardless, we don't have to sell him now for any amount. The summer, if we don't go up, will be a different story IMO but for now I think it'll be silly money or no move. Quite why there's this hysteria about it I don't know.
........... he doesnt exactly say he wants to stay though does he? How hard would that have been to say?
He's basically said all newspaper speculation is just that and that's he's perfectly happy here. He'd be a fool to say 'I want to stay', because if the club subsequently decided to accept a bid for him and he went, he'd not be looked on too favourably by the fans here. He's gone about as far as any footballer will these days to commit himself publically.
He said the same thing that almost every footballer would have said - under contract, job to do, blah blah blah. He also said - I'm happy - we are top of the league?
Best line on a Flem messageboard. "Haven't seen much of him but that's a pretty big bid. They'd be fools to turn it down"
It`s a Deposit! Hold on! that is £56.5 million short of Aidy`s valuation. Ah I see that is just the deposit, and they will pay the rest of it off on a 25 year mortgage, which repayments will cost them just £454,953.25 per month.:]]
Its ok everyone, I just called Fulham Football Club and quite unbelievably got through to to someone who gladly took a message for Roy Hodgson Basically told them that we are politely declining their derisory offer and want at least three times that Hopefully that should do it (If anyone else wants to call the numbers 0870-4421222)
Surely if this club think they want to become a top 10 Prem side we should try and actually keep our best players rather than flog them to then waste money by brining in rubbish such as....well we all know who!
No ofcourse not and we have no chance of doing that anyway but by sellikg King we won't even much chance of being promoted IMHO.
3.5 million for king it's an insult, aidy should only sell him if he gets at least 7 million. Who the **** are Fulham anyway
At no point did I say he was unsettled. I'm just predicting Aidy's spin on things when we sell him for less than £4m Enjoying the bank holiday?
