He made the mistake of allowing someone to put a Chivas USA jersey on him at an event once. That's like allowing someone to put a L*ton kit on you. He said it was the result of poor staff work not getting the riffraff outta the way, but the facts are the facts...he did it. Then there was the allowing his wife to drive city cars on personal business, wrecking one of them and making the city pay, then the secret liaisons the mayor had with a reporter covering LA City politics resulting in divorce... It's the Chivas kit that makes us upset though. No not very popular.
The Gov has at least turned out to be a careful politician, despite what I expected...the mayor on the other hand turned out to be loser. Yes, the kits are VERRRY RM. Not thrilled with them. A bit on the boring side, but then again what do I know...I like the Watford Ronald McDonald kits.
He could only play himself, and even then he'd do a poor job. God bless his simple little heart. All he needs to do is play football for 5 years.
Seems to me...it'll never be as big as baseball/football/basketball, but it doesn't need to be. It just needs to be the 4th place league in the US to be among the biggest leagues in the world financially. Beck's arrival though risky is a huge step in that direction. So, yes.
Not so sure fella. Read today that Beckhams arrival cant even be measured by TV ratings as they are currently so poor that they dont register. Also that in a recent cup game the galaxy pulled a massive 5000 crowd. Not really sure what a lot of the new fans are going to be expecting from him - cos they wont get flair & excitement. Id give it 6 months - a year and then the novelty will wear off. And dont call me sucker, fool !
It's just an expression. Don't take it personally. It comes from watching the A-Team too much. If you are saying that football is a minor sport in the US, I think that is stating the obvious. Regarding the cup game, it was held in Richmond VA, 2700 miles from LA. Not a surprise about the attendance. Attendance at home is averaging 22k per game before Beckham, which leads the league. Not really sure what the new fans expect either, but I don't care...all we need are fans who know the game but disrespect MLS for it's low quality to be swayed. Who cares what the "Beck's is sooo cute" people think...as you suspect they won't be around long.
Thinking a bit more about your flair/excitement comment, there are a few different kinds of football fans here...the 'I just want to win' fans, the Latin America oriented fan and the Euro/US oriented fan. The first and last category is not so attracted to shiny objects as much as the middle category. The middle category already has televised FMF here to slake their thirst for futbol, and the 'plan' for growing MLS is not banking on them so much. I would like to take this opportunity to say aloud: USA 2 - 1 Mexico, USA is the CONCACAF champion. Man that feels good.
