Thank you. An enlightening piece of research and, as you say, damning.

I remember 11-12 getting better towards the end of the season, and 10-11 getting worse, but I'd be very surprised if we match any of those seasons

Shows hands down how much mentally weaker this team have been over the course of the season. We probably have better players in some positions to those previous seasons but the effort, commitment and fire in previous teams made up for their short comings. Obviously when we went up under Joka we had without a doubt one of the best sides in the division, but in typical Watford style we started slowly and were slipping away from the playoffs before he came in, and even then he had some poor results.

I have no doubt the side we have now can be a lot better than what we are seeing, but I feel VI is just not the man to take us forward going into next season. Too many of his rumoured frailties are showing now and despite a slighter more spirited display yesterday evening, it's still difficult to see him restoring anything like the effort we saw before Xmas.

Quite right. A fire that was beyond the control of either team. £15 is okay considering

Interesting stats posted in the football chat only thread, we’ve only been ahead for 15% of our matches this season, and we’ve the worst record for first half performance in the entire football league, even Sheffield Utd have led more times, in fewer games than we have at half time, so for at least half of our respective games Sheffield Utd fans have actually been having a better time of it!

But yeah, the championship is so much more fun.

The champ is more competitive but much lower quality and unfortunately atm we are playing really poorly so we are not much fun to watch. If we are promoted again under this owner we will endure a season like Burnley or SU as we don’t have the finance or the “this is mad, we are actually in the prem!” enthusiasm of Luton… or their excellent young English manager.

Sounds just like last season when Sarr and Pedro stuck around. Great memories!

To be fair they probably won’t make the same mistakes as our incompetents. Refusing to deliver Edwards his right back while simultaneously wasting £5m on Bayo to keep agent friends lubricated. Oh and then sacking the guy who instantly gets your worse funded rivals promotion.

Somehow I think Sheff Utd will be less moronic than our club management.

Yes we are having a poor season, but are you really trying to say Sheffield Utd fans have had a better season than us?
They have won only 3 of 27 (11%), WFC have won 11 of 36 (31%) in the league.
Its not about who has a lead for the most minutes, its the final result that counts.

To be very clear I am not trying to say we have had a good season, I am saying it is much much better than Sheffield Utd.

    Sheffield Utd - P27 GF 22 GA 72 GD -50
    WFC - P36 GF 51 GA 49 GD +2

No im not trying to say that, but at the same time its not like its drastically different. We are the worst team in the first half in the entire football league pyramid, that means we are utterly woeful for at least 50% of every game and have only led matches for a pathetic 15% of the total minutes.

So you taking an extreme example of one of the worst teams in Premier League history who will more than likely break the 100 goals conceded record, still doesn’t really prove the point you picked that particular extreme example to try and do. It seems like another variation of the ‘but we could have Bassini’ argument, you can be in the premier league and not be as bad as Sheffield Utd, in fact the odds very much dictate most teams won’t be, including ourselves last time around.

Everyone said the championship would be fun, it isn’t, it’s dull as hell and our last PL season was still better, despite relegation, because at least the occasional wins were far more meaningful. Instead our very occasional wins are against the likes of Rotherham instead of Man Utd.

I asked you if you think Luton fans were enjoying their season more than ours, which you ignored, because of course unless you pick one of the worst teams in premier league history, your point doesn’t really work.

Luton fans probably can't believe they are in the prem considering the last 10 years they've had. Due to points deductions they might even stay up but frankly I'm sure they'd enjoy it even if they were in Burnleys position. We wouldn't and the last prem season under ranieri/Hodgson was one of the most miserable I've experienced even with a few great wins.
For us given the success of the last 10 years, the champ just seems like failure, poorer quality football than we've been used to and a feeling that we should be above the Prestons of this world. We all know we'll be hammered back in the prem but moaning that a coupole of decent signings would have made us mid-table where we wshould still be.
If you don't enjoy beating the likes of QPR and Rotherham because it's 'only QPR and Rotherham' then I'm not sure why anyone outside the prem should go and watch their local team.

The penalty they were given which they missed should never have been given though - also for a handball but the defender's arms were hugged in to his body. I don't think the ref was even able to see it properly. So it evened itself out really.

    Relegation watch:
Blackburn 1-1 Plymouth--Plymouth the better of the teams against Blackburn who went down to 10, result probably suits us as it keeps them both bang in it
Millwall 1-0 Brum--Brum a bit unlucky by all accounts, but their revival continues, who knew keeping it tight at the back and nabbing goals at set pieces was so effective? A draw would have been good too, but if there had to be a result, I think a Millwall win is the better for us
QPR 0-2 Boro--Boro definitely out of it now, so a good result for us
Preston 1-2 Stoke--not ideal, two flukey goals for Stoke, but it sounded like Preston reverted to type after a good run of form got them back in the hunt for the top 6
Huddersfield at home to West Brom tomorrow, currently 7 behind us, with our next opponents Brum a point ahead and with a game in hand

Huddersfield lead an absolutely dire West Brom (no shots of any kind in the first half!), we're going down...

Clevs needs at least one win.

I hedged relegation at 100/1 to fund a couple of season tickets (or just a holiday to forget the world!)

Unless we get absolutely battered in a couple of games , our goal difference Is probably worth an extra point on neatly all reams below us atm..

Well it's been some turnaround from a West Brom side who haven't been on sparkling form and who got battered by QPR midweek and were lucky to get a point, worldy strike from Yokuslu!

WBA, a bit like Norwich have hit a very good run of form at the perfect time. That now puts us 7 clear of any trouble but it's still not over until we are mathematically safe. Beating Deeney's old charges next weekend would put us even closer to safety, even though it still seems highly unlikely we will get dragged into it. Huddersfield, Birmingham, Sheff Wed and QPR look the likely lot to battle to avoid joining Rotherham in League One whose relegation is all but confirmed surely.

I have done another predicted final table. This one uses everyone's current ppg from their last 4 matches, but separates out home and away form, to give a figure for extra points gained home and away. Obviously this is just a statistician's approach, but it does give food for thought - thought that we could finish perilously close to the drop if we continue as we have been doing recently.

I have also used ppg from the last 4 matches, home and away, to compare us with our remaining opponents:

    upload_2024-3-10_14-21-34.png

Edit: What makes this worse, as someone has already pointed out, is that the first seven of these opponents still have something serious to play for.

Huddersfield haven't had much of a new manager bounce have they? I mean, they beat us, but that doesn't take much! Good thing they stayed 7 points adrift with a much poorer GD, as they have a lot of 6 pointers to come
