From personal experience, this is an infinitely more profitable and enjoyable use of a Saturday afternoon.
I can't help not caring about the results despite the fact that the last month has done nothing to warrant it. The stupid mistakes I just don't know what to attribute to as our defence is not as bad as we're playing at. I thought I could point to a few choice changes and we'd see an improvement but recent games has changed my normally optimistic view. Evidently, VI agrees with his rightfully scathing review of our own game as he's asking why we're regressing by the game with our approach and attitude missing since the early Season.
No doubt there will be another captain Bachmann pre-match inspirational team talk: "I'll be honest, I'm sh1tting it lads" 3-1
We’re regressing because we’re not very good. The players are naturally run-of-the-mill in terms of energy. You can ask them to play high intensity game for only so long before they revert to type. They can’t play to that level game after game. If you want to play a high intensive game, you need plenty of players you can rotate with. Basically you need a big squad of players you’re happy to swap like for like with. We just don’t have that in any position. This game plan was never going to work the players we have. They are too lazy plus none of them are all that comfortable in the ball. So as soon as they get pressed they tend to panic, lose control or rush the pass. It’s no surprise to see the level we’re at, as this is our natural level with the players we have. The first half against QPR is way above what this team can regularly play at, so should really be discounted entirely.
I think QPR even at the time was viewed as an abnormal level, but the following games were equally good despite our inability to score at the time. Now we've got a regular goal scoring touch but our pressing and basic defensive decision making has gone out the window. I don't think there's a lot of answers to that second issue because it shouldn't happen at any level. It's just bizarre because we are better than relegation candidates despite our shortcomings. We do rotate and we have a squad that other teams would want in certain positions (Hoedt, Porteous, Lewis, Louza, Koné, Martins, Sema I think a lot of squads would want on paper) but it just isn't working.
Out of the 10 games we’ve played, we’ve failed to score in 5 of them. So goal scoring is still an issue. I’m not sure too many Championship clubs look at our squad with envy. Sure, we got one or two decent players, but the rest are all pretty average.
Shame that both of those players are absent. One is unforced and I give all my support to for what his family are going through right now, and hope he can return when he feels it's right. The other, may as well be MIA because he certainly is on the pitch.
That's if his knee hasn't gone again, looked to me like he was in some discomfort on Wednesday and was hobbling a bit.
Watford Twitter are trolling the fans now. Showing the 5-1 win over Cardiff in the PL. Sort of saying "hey guys remember this? yeah you got no chance of repeat tomorrow..."
https://twitter.com/GlenWilliams12/status/1709925615141552583 Turns out it's not just Ramsey out injured, O'Dowda also out along with Meite & Etete
I did it a lot when I was younger. It's not just the football for some, it's the whole day. Some go because they always have I suspect. For most it's a hobby. You can query why people do most hobbies. Train spotting or cross country running or gardening etc etc. They like doing it even if sometimes it's hard work. Not sure why the fans are unlikeable or is just because they have a different opinion
Remember when we were good? What a call from grace. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyDR9eKunJ3/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Wow, didn’t realise it was that long ago! Sums up how bad we were in the last few months of last season. Not that the home form has been much of an improvement - defeats against Huddersfield, Cardiff (when they were crap and only stayed up thanks to Reading’s points deduction) and Blackburn (who have turned out to be crap as well despite putting eight at some lower league team midweek), out of the top of my head…
totally get it in days gone by. We spent most of our lives driving up and down the motorways in the 70s, 80s and 90s to follow Watford. Even sat next to SEJ at Rochdale on the old wooden cinema seats. But that was back in a day when we were mostly crap but the players gave it their all. Now I find the squad we’ve had over the last 5 years so detestable that driving 10 minutes to a home game is a struggle.
After the first Cardiff goal goes in, we sh*t ourselves on the pitch and Cardiff stroll to a 5-0 win. Rumours that Cardiff took off three players off and didn't replace them awaits confirmation. No shots on target from us Ismael sacked or saved by the fact no else wants the job? Slide into the bottom three like the turds in a toilet. Is there a difference?
Recently beat Sunderland and Coventry, bit concerning, I thought Cardiff were shyte didn’t realise they’re actually quite good.
