Didn't see much of the game in all honesty, so can't have too strong an opinion either way...... From what I saw/heard I thought Livermore had a good game alongside Kayembe. Was it a shift to a 4-2-3-1? Appeared to be from personnel. If so, a shrewd move to plug those gaps between midfield and defence, especially seeing how open we've been. Gives us more balance and a base to build from. Also allows more creative players to play their natural game. A decent result against a team that was just outside the play-offs and in good form, especially seeing how happy they were to take a point in the end from us! Got to be more clinical though.
A welcome point. Well done all those who made the effort to go. To my shame I only just about managed to muster the enthusiasm to check the score at half time
I checked in after full time. I see Bayo is still doing his best imitation of a hobbled horse infront of goal. £6M. The SIX MILLION POUND MAN...... Can we make him better Gino ?
Tbf to him - creating that chance in the first place was all his own doing. Rajovic wouldn't have been anywhere near it.
As long as he keeps scoring at the rate he is (1 every 2.5 games/90min), then I can stomach that, as an average Championship side.
I agree with the effort but he only just put enough on that shot to get it over the line. I really though that defender was going to get to it.
Second week in a row that Bayo has gone round the Keeper and missed a sitter. No idea why he just didn't tap it in with his left foot instead of taking another touch. My guess is that he has a lack of balance when shooting across his body. His goal today was down to his persistent, yet he nearly blew it .
Val made the right choice to plug the midfield with Livermore and Kayembe today as we had glaring holes all over the pitch previously and both players did a good job. The first half was a carry on from Sunderland, we just looked destined for league 1 playing like that but we were the much better team 2nd half and missed some unbelievable chances, in particular the Ince one where he skied it over from 8 yards. One thing that really grates on me is the obsession with passing the ball back. Whenever we have the ball in the opposition half we turn and pass it back to the defence, who all take it in turns to play a 5 yard pass then Bachmann has a go before trying to get it back to where it was in the first place. I get the whole concept of possession football but there is no second phase of play, it's just peters out when we inevitably pass it to the opposition. Great away day though, it gets my blood pumping scoring away and experiencing that moment.
I understand from talking to Uncle Ron there were add ons for every open goal missed so I believe it’s now gone to 8m
I agree it’s totally frustrating passing around at the back, if you don’t get the ball forward you don’t score as far as I’m concerned!, happy for the opposition to do it and Bayo run his heart out to Nick a few goals though
They all do it let’s be honest . Is there a team who doesn’t try to play the Man City/Barca way which pundits call the “right way or “brave”? Trouble is many have said teams like us don’t have footballers who can play pretty one touch stuff in tight spaces despite what managers and coaches think! No doubt in a few years we will see young players will get berated for passing the ball forwards or above knee height !
Ironically everytime we went long in the 2nd half we usually won the 2nd ball or forced Cardiff into touch. It would be nice to mix it up and play more direct when required.
I'm sure if VB submits a request to do this in writing immediately, Gino will consider it and give him an answer by the end of the International Break.
There are some people so desperate to slag him off that when the club posted his goal there were a number of posts desperate to point out that "He nearly missed it!!!!". The fact some people have such little joy that they find that sort of negative from a striker scoring a goal is baffling to me.
Lewis was dreadful. At the end he managed to put a 4 yard square ball straight out of play and I had to laugh at the bloke next to me who put it down to 'fitness' - it was a 4 yard roll of the ball that was required. Lewis seems to have settled on the list of players who people will make excuses for. To date, his performances have been poor.
They have been worse than “poor”. As our sole prem loan, a player who has excelled at this level before, I expected so much more. He just looks like he feels he’s just too good to have to play for this club. Just looking fwd to returning to his champions League club and winning his place back.
Pretty even first half with two really poor teams. Second half we were the better team and looked to have re-discovered some work rate, structure and unity. Livermore and Kayembe in particular were excellent and made a world of difference. Hoedt and Sierallta looked more at ease with each other. Ngakia again was steady and unspectacular. Porteous and Louza rightly dropped was positive to see. Lewis was awful. Martins and Asprilla created zero between them. Bayo didn't stop running. 4 goals in 10 games in a team that doesn't create many chances isn't bad going. He had two chances yesterday, both created by his own pressing. A better striker would have scored both, but there should also be some expectation that at some point during the game Martins or Asprilla could create something for a striker to go after. Ince caused them some issues when he came on and at the absolute minimum should have got that late shot on target. I would have taken a draw before the game, important we just stopped losing.
There does seem to be a lot of people on X/Twitter and other platforms that want a "I told you so" moment. Does seem rather odd.
A game we could have, probably should have won. Pleasing that we responded well and dominated the second half. Still way too fragile and lacking in quality.
Not sure if was reported anywhere but according to some who went there were some small Pozzo Out protests outside the ground at HT. Also. some fans started small scuffles in the away end due to this. Nothing more than handbags at dawn, but it proves there are still sections of the fanbase who voice the distain on how we have spiralled so badly.
Dear Jon Lale told me we were 1-0 so I was relieved to hear we got a draw when I finished at 5pm. Now I read about the missed chances I'm not so sure. Oh well, beggars can't be...
Nope. They let about 50 of us out for a smoke at HT, but everyone was puffing peacefully. No sign of any Pozzo demos. The fellas in the row behind me did have an argument with the fellas in the row in front of me during the 1st half - something stupid over filming the game or something. Nothing to do with Pozzo. It was really stupid. They called each other fackin' melts loudly and a lot and slagged off what each other was wearing. One of them said "Some Watford supporters are absolute kants". It was hard to disagree. The Cardiff fans I met by contrast, in the town, on the bus to the ground and walking back to the centre afterwards were extremely friendly and civil.
I don't suppose they showed it on TV, but top marks to the Cardiff fella who stripped off his shirt and ran around the pitch dodging stewards in the middle of the 2nd half. Some tremendous comedy, including 'come on' gestures to the sweating puffing hi-vis vest pursuers and some excellent body swerves and dodges before eventually being rugby tackled and brought crashing down. It looked like one of the stewards might have give him a couple of punches too, which was most uncalled for. It was definitely one of the most entertaining highlights of the whole 90 minutes.
