Commons signed a new contract a few weeks ago after his previous contract ran out at the end of the season. If we didn't make a bid when he was out of contract, it'd hardly be worth spending money on a player that would have been either free or a nominal compensatory fee just a few weeks ago.

........... and about 18months ago we'd have all laughed at £10mil for Ashley..... in fact go back 2 and a half years and I think a couple of people were hoping Ash would be given a free to Barnet or somewhere similar

Boozer was one of our best players last year and ONCE AGAIN I will plead with the club not to sell. Bottom line is that if you are ambitious enough YOU DONT SELL YOUR BEST PLAYERS NO MATTER HOW MUCH IS OFFERED

We are so cash rich now its bloody ridiculous, couple that with the fact that we've spent absolutely F*** all and selling boozer in my eyes would be a complete farce

Losing Ash hurt us out on the wing in terms of skill and creativety and pace.. something boozer DOES have.... we just cannot afford to lose that.

Which is why i said i'd only sell him if i had a potential replacement lined up who was as good if not better. I'd prefer a more consistent player than Bouazza.

I hope he stays and have a feeling he could become a 'Gary Mcsheffery' i.e. a goalscoring left winger but if the player wants to go, whats the point in keeping him?

Not if Young was worth 8 million

He wasn't worth 8 million though.. thats the point.

sssshhhh, we got away with it ;)

i dont believe it, he might have just had a meeting to discuss he was open to it, aidy likes to talk to the players alot, it doesnt mean he's unhappy here.
plus he only signed a contract recently.

To be fair, we all know he wasn't/isn't.

And English players always go for more for some reason or another.

A player is worth what someone is prepared to pay. There's silly money knocking around some for young players with potential, it's always going to be a gamble.

  10. lm_wfc

the gambles worth it,, you can sell them later while they're still at an age where they can play, basically getting however many years service without having to pay transfer fees if ou know what i mean.

and some can reach huge amounts if you're lucky

  11. Trafalgar

    Indeed.

I think there isn't a grat deal to choose between Young and Hammer (obviously Young is the better of the two)

So think we may be able to get a fair few quid for him

How many top notch left-footed players are available? Who can play on the wing or in the center of attack?

Not very many. So clubs in need of such a player will be willing to pay obscene amounts.

In Boothroyds opinion, Tommy Smith is a 'top notch' player who can play either on the wing or upfront. . . .

Well we all know that sky don't bother with journalism any more than vitalfootball.

This, to me, sounds like a load of column filling crud.

If he does want to go, so what? We don't have to let him go as he has signed a new contract. As someoene said earlier, if we are nigh on automatic places come Christmas I'm sure he wouldn't so much as bat an eyelid to a club like Brummy or Slumberfags, who will be struggling enormously by then.

I'm sure he is not 'desperate' to leave, seeing as the club is in the best shape it has ever been, and I would be surprised if any club is stupid enough to bid over £5m for a player who has had about 4 great performances and countless umemorable, ineffective ones.

This has only come about because of his goal against Man U, and I don't believe it for a second.

He only signed for one year and would still be cheaper (and probably better) than Bouazza.

  17. luke_golden

    luke_golden Space Cadet

Maybe, but why would we sign him now when we could have got him for free? Surely if he was good enough somebody else would have snapped him up when he was free. As far as im concerned, he's still living off his good form at the end of the season Forest were relegated.

On his day Bouazza is a good player...however is extremley inconsistant! Only had about 10 decent games last season in about 25-30. If we got anything over £4,000,00 i'd take it! Without a doubt.

  19. Bails

Really cant see anyone offering £5 million for him. Hes only just broken into the first team. Hes had 1 promising but inconsistent season in the premier league - previously to that was a bit part player and possibly playing for his future at the club.

People comparing him to koumas price is a little silly. Koumas, while troublesome, is a player with outstanding talent who has proved it now for nearly 10 years (interupted by avoidable adsences because of his attitude).

Some of the figures quoted on this thread are ridiculous!

Cant see any offer over £3m and i dont think we would accept that, honestly dont think hes going anywhere.

  20. Bubble

    Bubble Wise Oracle

Exactly! Ashley Young for example although over-priced proved he had quality over 18 months! Bouazza has shown it in fits and starts...he's too inconsistant to be in the same class as Young. £4,000,000 and he's gone!

I just cant see bouazza being good at any other club like bubble said he is too inconsistant.

If this is true I have a personal message to Mr Bouazza.

If you're not up for the fight, you can F*ck right off mate. Enjoy the bench of whatever mediocre Premier***** team you join, we'll wave when we pass you by in years to come...

Guys, I think we need to have a sense of balance here.

As die hard fans we hate anyone who wants to leave the Club without being pushed. We don't understand how anyone could want to leave the mighty Watford with top 10 in the Premiership just round the corner.

But for one moment just consider it from the player's perspective. They have a limited footballing career, they want to play at the highest level, they want to earn money, not everyone buys into Aidy's vision and there is no guarantee that we will be promoted next season.

Boozer is not being disloyal he justs want to better himself. Ask yourself if you wouldn't do the same? Have you ever left a job for another job?

    Let the barrage begin.:]]

Turn down any transfer request for now, we don't need the money, tell him to give us until January if we are doing well he may decide to stay and try for thr prem with us. If we are not doing so well then allow him his chance to go.
    Whatever the outcome it will be in his interest to play out of his skin to either;
    a. get us promoted
    b. put himself in the shop window

But Young was probably the most inconsisent player I can remember seeing at the club in the last few years! One week he'd be a match-winner and the next you'd forget he was on the pitch if it wasn't for his dire corners.

  28. hornetmaster

Yes- and you could also argue that he is much more consistent than Boozer who varies between match-winner and absentee.:)

Call me naive but I think we should keep him. He's definatly a good player, better imho than Young, who will help us get promoted. As from his view, he could join Birmingham or Fulham who could easily be relegated and drop/ exclude him whilst we return to the prem in a far more stable position.

Plus there's no Bar:me or Kandi Klub in Brum or Portsmouth, and the KFC he visits on St Albans road is one of the best in England

Is Bouazza a Crown Jewel ?

With the sickening amount of dosh flying around for very average players

these days, the amount we'd get for him I expect, far out weighs the

    advantage of keeping him

The only problem with that is that we need to pay out that much or more to get players to come in, and people keep thinking we can pick player up for the price of a Mars Bar.
