Hornets slap £5m tag on Bouazza Fulham and Portsmouth have been put on alert after Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd revealed Hameur Bouazza was available for £5million. The Algerian impressed for the Hornets during their ill-fated Premier League campaign, apparently catching the eye of the Cottagers and Pompey. Boothroyd had previously insisted he would only leave Vicarage Road if the fee was "unreal" but now appears to have had a change of heart. He said: "Hameur is a quality player for us. If another club wants him, they are going to have to come up with £5million." c+p from team talk
I said this as soon as the speculation started. Aidy's stance about only accepting a silly offer was a clear marketing ploy, just as Joe Kinear used to always claim that his players were not for sale, at the same time arranging for a taxi to pick them up from the ground. Aidy was trying to push Hammer's value up, knowing full well that he was on his way. Now it is a matter of time before he goes.
I never thought this would be the case, but more money is almost a useless asset to us, when we cannot attract new players. There are a little clique of clubs in teh CHampionship who have sold players for good money. All have bulging wallets and depleted squads. Perhaps this means that there will be a real surprise success story this season, with one of the mediocre teams from last season who have kept their squad together, making a real push for promotion against the money laden elite?
Funny you should say that. Just read an interview with Marc Nygaard of QPR who says he feels they're good enough to make the playoffs. No farkin' way Marc. You're more likely to go down the up!
Since if you have no money and go into administration you are docked 10 points, perhaps the clubs latest ploy is to hoard all the money they can in an attempt to be awarded 10 points.
All this money we have and no spending does make you wonder, especially when we pay a lot less wages than other teams. If he does go and is not replaced, I will really start to wonder as McAnuff seems more of a right sided player along with Smith (you can possibly add Campana in to that as well) and thus would leave us with only Macca on the left (Cavailli also sems out of it now), someone who Adie obviously does not rate that great.
£5M isn't "silly money" for Hameur. £10M is. Selling Hameur for £5M is not a good deal for us. :dismay:
great so he really is on his way then as 5 million is nothing to those teams now with all the television money now coming into the premiership :rant::rant::rant::rant::rant: very annoyed now as we wont get anyone in to replace him leaving us with a weaker squad and a lack of natural left sided talented players for ****s sake
Yep totally agree. I wonder where Simpson will be off on his next holidays Although saying that Bouazza is not worth £5,000,000! He's inconsistent, goes missing in most games, only had a dozen decent games last season IMO! Aslong as Aidy can bring in a decent replacement and a targetman to replace Hendo i'll be happy!
who would pay 5 million for bouazza? i can't see it happening myself. not even redknapp is that silly
In today's transfer market (where Chris Baird costs over £3 million ffs!!) Boozer is definitely worth £5 million. Tbh I'm not sure why we'd be settling for any less than £7 million.
I suppose one positive is that if things are not going well by Christmas we have the resources to buy. But, on the downside, at that time there will be less players available.
we have the resources to buy now Ron but everyone turns us down. Won't change by december especially if we're not doing well.
Why sell an asset. This will only weaken the team. It wont towards a quality player. Bouazza was a much better player than people on here give him credit 4. Think 'are we going to get a better player' likely answer is no. Cant get his pace, goals and assits. He's only 22yo so can only get better, i feel given more confidence he could go onto big things.
I'd rather keep Bouazza to be honest than take the money unless he really wants to leave and stops playing etc! 5 million is too much for him but hey a few decent performances for us and some crazy club might pay double!
especially come christmas when the transfer window opens and them struggling premiership clubs come scavenging .
Thin it was Aidy (GS) way of starting the Auction rolloing , knowing that there was more than one club interested . Now they all know where to start bidding from , hopefully weget a couple of extra mil more . ( I'd prefer it if he stayed) Who we'd get to replace him only knows. The only ones that want to come are in div 2.
For clubs that pay players £50k+ a week, £5m isn't even pocket money. Hell £10m is barely Big Issue money. Fact is, Prem clubs have ridiculous annual income from TV (as we found out), and they can wave enormous amounts of money at lower clubs without it denting their margins at all. End result being Prem clubs have a lot of talent sitting in huge squads doing sod all, while drying up all talent in the clubs in the lower leagues. Its not right.
Shock horror...he seems keen to leave now probably thanks to his agent. From Skysports: Hameur Bouazza is hopeful Watford will not stand in his way should the opportunity to play in the The Premier League next season arise. Hornets boss Adrian Boothroyd stated on Tuesday that he would allow the Algerian international to leave Vicarage Road, but only if a club met his £5 million asking price. That figure could prove prohibitive for a player who did not cost Watford a fee having come through the clubs youth ranks after earning a scholarship. However, Bouazza - who managed five goals in 27 Premiership starts last season - is adamant he wants to secure a return to the top-flight if the chance presents itself and his agent has urged Watford to remain realistic over his price-tag. "I am happy at Watford, but if the chance comes to play in The Premiership I have to take it for myself and for my family," Bouazza told skysports.com. "I am flattered that there are Premiership clubs following me and, after last season, I would like the opportunity to play at that level again." The player's France-based agent Farid Ayad remains optimistic a deal in the interests of all parties can be brokered. "We hope that Watford don't price Hameur out of a move to the Premiership," Ayad told skysports.com. "Our partner in England Saif Rubie is ready to conclude a deal if and when Watford agree a fee with any prospective buyer." The likes of Fulham, Bolton and Birmingham are all reported to be monitoring Bouazza's situation. _________________
You have to recognise that any player's first concern is his career and not the club he plays for. There is nothing wrong with players wanting to play in the top flight and you can't blame them for it.
it doesn`t look like he will bw with us this seaon. remind me of our best players last season............... foster [gone], young [gone], hammer[going] and danny [?] but we will have a building site for a stadium and a bunch of mad season ticket holders and a very rich chairman. ive had a few dealings with mr simpson and don`t like him one bit. he`s very rich and doesn`t care !
**** that. I couldn't give two ***** whether he wants to stay or not. He is on contract, £5m is not silly money and as for this 'me and my family' business - I'm sure hes not ****ing starving on his Watford wage! He must be on £7k a week or something! We are not getting any players in. Simpson can **** right off we don't need any more money. We survived quite happily with sod all money before and now we have loads. *******.
I have just e-mailed the club telling them that we need to keep Bouazza not hoard money. a healthy bank balance is not going to get us promoted a player with the motivation and desire to play in the premiership, just might. Those that also think the club should be telling him to stay, I would urge you to also mail the club, and tell them how you feel, rather than just venting on here.
I can understand bouazza wanting to play in the prem and to secure a bigger wage to support his family , in the same way that if i was head hunted by a bigger organisation and payed twice as much that i would be off in a flash ( my present comany are good and have looked after me well , but first priority is to support my family). I also believe that the chairman should be doing everything to keep it's home grown talent , instead of selling it off to make a fast buck or we will never become the top 10 team that aidy and gs profess they believ we can be.
I can't understand why Bouuazza is so desperate to leave? He is 22 years old and has plenty of time to get to the Premiership. This is either his agents work or just pure naivity.
Could also be that after the death of his father, Bouazza is now the real "Head of the Family" & the main bread-winner, so feels he needs better wages now.
