Im sorry, i know there been enough talk of our support being carp before on here, but tonight when the players need the backing most we weren't really there, for about 35 minutes of the second half it was about 10 people at the back singing aidie boothroyds yellow army and everyone else sitting down, i tried standing up and joining in to see if anyone around me would join me, instead within a split second of standing up "sit down". I know it works both ways and the football was p!ss poor but the supports performance werent good either, the booing at full time does nothing helpful, let boothroyd and his coaches do the criticism, theres will be constructive, and as for the boos at half time, just stupid!!!! and if your like the guy behind me who booed thru the entire game from 1-1 and said "i dont know why i waste my time coming here" about 20 times tonight, dont waste your time, stay at home, you won't be missed, quite a cheesey sh!t attempt by marlon as well lol but it was funny so i'll let em off

It would of made no difference if the place was buzzing for the second half the score would still be 1-1.

I don't buy this "two way" stuff. It is the responsibility of the players to get the fans going. It sounded like a decent atmosphere in the first half until we started to sit back. People were obviously urging the team forward and they simply weren't responding. Frustrations will boil over when the whole world and it's mother can see we need to be on the attack and we're playing into Wigans hands.

Still i always find it makes the game even worse if i'm trying to sing and everyone around me is jeering at the players. But in the first 30 minutes it sounded like the atmosphere was good (from what 3CR said) and that the players did seem to be responding, but when they went flat, so did the fans.

There way times in the second hlaf were the fans tried to give the players a lift but it never worked.

thats a good point, i cant stand people tellings others to sit down if they attempt to sing or stand up (heaven forbid)....... and people jeering the players, do you think the players notice?

Ive decided that all this talk of fans and atmosphere on here is a bit pointless. As i feel that people that have actually logged onto this message board in my opinion either live far away or are the ones who love the club and generally sing, as their thirst for info on the club is a huge. I would like to see ideas for generally making it better.???? or getting this message board some better coverage.

Doubt it bothers the players to be honest, though no doubt a good atmosphere does give that extra moral boost. But as others have said the poor atmosphere certainly wasn’t the reason why we only drew a game we could, maybe should have won.

We were poor when Fossie injured his leg and we conceded the goal. But in the second half, everyone around me was urging us to get forward and kill the game off. As the game wore down and it was obvious we weren't really going for it, that was when th frustration surfaced.

So we are allowed to praise the team but not criticise ?? Come off it, that abject 2nd half performance deserved all the boos it got.

    The atmosphere was reasonable.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D honesty is the best policy and all that, as fans we can't exactly tell the players individually that we we're upset with them (unless your a hendo stalker like someone on this mb  ) if we boo them then they get the message!

i just hope aidy don't come out with some bullsh*t about getting behind the players etc

When was the last time though the team were booed off after a draw?

Even after Sheff Utd which was a far worse performance I don't remember any booing.

That's three out of the last four Premiership home games that the team have been booed off, can't have done much for their confidence...

unfortunately had seats in the Rous tonight, the only noise in there was the sound of sandwiches being unwrapped..and a few boo boys.

Let's face it, it was not that great a performance...

Watford fans have every right to expect a good performance under the circumstances. Better the crowd boo their feelings after expectations not being met than cheer a poor performance. That would be tantamount to saying we are shyte and we know we are, so clappy clap...

This is not a crap team, it was a team that played like crap.

But everyone gets frustrated about something, my hate is people leaving early.

Yes they do notice, especially when your front row and distracting the opposition goalie. Works about 7 times out of 10.

When we do create an atmosphere if the squad dont get enthusiastic by it whats the point in doing it at all? You had the minority singing in 2nd half with "ab's yellow army we hate +++++!"

At the end of the day, the only thing we gained was a resonably early lead, but then we blew it away because we never got ourselves in gear. You could say we gained 1point but that really doesn't improve anything, i personally think it we should have played for all 3pts or nothing at all.
Why did we relax when theres 10 men against us? Wigan would want it more and be more fiesty. Our solution is to sit back.

If we learn from our mistakes and keep on fighting we wil stay up. But if we keep on playing like we have been eg... Ipswich mistakes and Wigan game too, I won't have to miss the Championship anymore because we will be in it!

If the play on the pitch is good it lifts the supporters and the noise goes up and in turn lifts the players.
We as supporters started well singing well lifting the players as the game started. They knew we are 100% behind them. We score noise go up it's lifted us right up to the time the team started sitting back, not passing (to a yellow shirt), and not showing any commitment. So as fans it's frustrating you've done your bit, you've paid your money it's down to the team to show commitment back to us. Last night Hendo, Smith, Malky and Jay showed commitment the rest looked they were there to pick up their wages. Wigan sat back (who can blame them) and showed we had know idea how to break them down and the fact most the team were running around at half pace it was Wigan with the extra men.
The team was poor and that is no fault of ours.

We can do our best in the crowd to lift our team, and i thought we were doing alright... but at the end of the day, we are playing at home and they should be entertaining, exciting and stimulating us!!!...

Our team last night couldn't stimulate a clitoris the size of a brussell spout!!

Those pathetic players needed booing. This was the biggest match of the season and was handed to us on a plate, against 10 men and 1-0 up, but there wasn't even a shred of desire from several of the players. booing's too good for 'em. 20 lashes each if I was in charge.

Dis agree, we are not good enough for this divison, so encouraging the players who are already not good enough, rather than barrack and boo and laugh at them, will not help the players al it does is release your own frustrations.

Our home fans are shyte, the gloryhunting scumcanuts 5k added this year, expect too much and vent their frustration booing and calling al the playes shyte.

I say they should Uck off and lets go back to our 11k loyal support - the problem with our home performances most of the time is the fans are shyte and scared and tense. Exactly what happened last night, loud support to start, then lairy with cheeerio cheerio when their player was sent off, ( anyone knows that playing against 10 men can be is harder than agaianst 11), then the booig started in the first half.

Our fans seem to think we are bigger and beeter than we are, the sam criticism that was placed on Leeds and Palsarse last seaosn regarding the play offs.

We are not good enough for this league, we are close to semi final in the fa cup, we have a squad growing and developing, we haven't lost for 3 games, the clubs finances are now in good/decent health.

Too much pressure on the team lst night and they and the fans can't take pressure, hence the poor performance.

Well done to the lads at the back of the rookers though who did try to keep on singing and encourage the team on. during the game. If people must boo and that in itself is not a bad thing, please boo after the game - i believe it is counter productive to boo durng the game and inspires the opposition to play better.
    Watford support = Shyte.

I know Arthut Daley has a dig and a wind up, but he's not wrong about WFC support. Away from home we are fantastic (loyal band of 1000), at home we are as bad as any team we criticise.

I disagree about the pressure argument Paddy. We have shown in the past that this can be handled.

I do agree that we are just not good enough for this division. In my opinion we only had / have 3 or 4 outfield players capable of showing the necessary class to open up defences - Ash, Marlon, Hameur and Tommy occasionally.

We sold Ash ( a good deal if the money can be reinvested well - not sure Hoskins is the answer). Marlon got injured, Hammy isn't started (why?) and Tom has arguably been our best player the last couple of games.

Assuming we go down there is a lot of work that needs to be done before we can be very optimistic about bouncing straight back up.

But for now if people want to boo let them - i won't.

Now let's go win that Cup:)

All points you made are valid paddy!...BUT...

It is the job of Aidy and Mahon to calm nerves... All I have heard in the last week is how Aidy was preparing the team to play with no pressure etc etc

...and all we got was ineptitude from mahon and co!

Wigan scored their goal...and we stopped playing! Why??

    This was so important...

One thing I disagree with you though.... WE ARE GOOD ENOUGH!!

We have played our best with Francis and Bangura in the middle... why change?? To accomdate Mahon as captain?? If so, poor show Aidy!

When it mattered (ie, last night)... Wigan wanted it more!!

Now that, is not about being good enough... it is about desire and passion!!

    VERY disappointed...

well said that man - had 'chat' with lad giving it max grief on the way out. It's where we've come from to get ere in that short space of time - oh for a bench with Camara, Unsworth et al and a midfield hat can keep and pass the ball. People look at 'little' Wigan and convenient forget how much money Whelan has actually pumped into this team over the past 5-6 years - effectively doing a Chelsea. Whereas 18 months ago we were prime candidates for relegation to league 1, let alone upwards...

Berko - not at home in recent years - we can lift our game as underdogs, that i do not dispute, but pressue games - at home - i don't see that we do. And i blame that to a certain degree on the fans.

Jay had one of his worst games last night. When Aidy gives them all their DVD's today highlighting their (lack of) performances, I hope he asks Jay to explain how Heskey lost him at EVERY corner Wigan had and could've had a free header every time

I will critcise the team not because we lost and not because we gave an AWFUL performance, but because we severely lacked heart and effort tonight. I am always hearing Aidy say we are fighters, what in the war of Handbags? we should of been pumping tonight, particuarly the two central midfielders! but NO we didnt turn up, i kept wondering if Gav and Francis had fallen asleep. They gave away the ball and just jogged around with there heads down! it was a sham, i they lost to 8 men, but put effort in i could take that, but not this!!!!!!!

I wasn't at the game last night but if this account is anything to go by it seems the fans WERE partially to blame...

"Caleb Folan equalised for the Latics five minutes before the break and Jewell's team absorbed most of what Watford could throw at them after the break.

You could hear the frustration from the home supporters.

Anxiety soured their committed, unconditional support and voiced itself in howls of derision every time a Watford player dwelled on the ball.

It seemed to transmit itself to the players and they became increasingly uncertain as they pushed forward time and again only to falter in the final third."

The only person to blame is Mr.Boothroyd for having the stupidity of not putting a keeper on the bench when Foster got injured in training the other day.

Ok, he did it in favour of an attacking bench, so why didnt he bring any strikers on when we needed them most!?
