Deeney on the wing was an abomination. Thompson was amazing. Team overall played well

Jenkins is crap, Buckley is crap, Graham is good, Cowie is a much better centre midfielder than winger, Deeney is never a winger, Hodson is not such a bad player after all, our bench is weak.

    Good result.

Hodson, Deeney and Mariappa were absolute class today. Cowie was great in the middle but has to get stuck in a bit more. Graham was his usual fantastic, with great workrate and a sublime finish. Weimann was also superb.

Great win against a side who were always going to be difficult to play against (they're ****ing cheats) but we did well and looked solid at the back throughout (even if Loach looked very dodgy in the first half).

Will be able to go out and get smashed tonight with the knowledge that we have picked up a very good three points today.

It was a hard fought needed win today, but to be frank never one that we really deserved. In terms of key chances Millwall had them all and I honestly don't think if they had walked away very comfortable winners I would have thought it unfair. They missed 2 glorious chances in the first half and hit the bar from Taylors slice, and Loach pulled off 3-4 excellent saves in the second half which along with Morrisons shocking miss got us the points. Thompson showed potential but I didn't think he was superb as some on here are saying, some of his passing was wayward. Not having a go at the lad it was a good performance for someone his age with his experience.

Deeney had one of his best games for the club thus far (he was average.) Weimann for me did little I would rather see Sordell starting I dont see what Weimann gives us that Sordell doesn't, and each game Sordell plays will help his development.

Grahams finish and all round play was excellent, he is a man destined for the Premiership. Cowie was incredible he just does not stop running

What an entertaining game. It was like watching a different team and if we keep that momentum up on tuesday we might just see the welsh off!

I even found hodson & deeney a worthwile inclusion today and I never thought i would say that.

I wouldn't say the goal was undeserved but Millwall fans will be understandably aggreived by the resuslt. They had so many clear cut goal scoring opportunities and their goalkeeper didn't have to make a save the whole game.

All the Watford players did well; there were no bad performances.

Maybe in terms of it winning the game but then from all account we've had our fair share of bad luck away from home with teams scoring with their only effort (s) on goal.

It was maybe more of an away side performance in that we had to defend a lot..mind you that might have been different if they'd scored of course.

They missed a couple of sitters 1st half and Loach did one or two good saves but you know us..we'd give a kids sunday league team some efforts!

Anyway the win is all that matters.

That was a big win. For me the man of the match award would have to go to Cowie - he was everywhere. Hodson has clearly got some confidence back and Thompson keeps on getting better. When we get a LB in, be it this season or in the Summer, Doyley is going to have a job on his hands getting back in the RB spot.

I actually thought Jenkins was pretty anonymous for most of the game but the last 20 minutes he really came alive and was brilliant. Mingoia done well when he came on also, he looked a bit more composed than he did against Brighton. Weimann was impressive and I can see why he got the nod over Sordell - his workrate in closing down the Millwall defence was superb and Sordell doesn't give you that.

    Finally, Millwall fans are ********s.

I thought that we were the better side today. Our midfield seemed suprisingly capable given the absences (when are we ever going to play Deeney up front?!). Thompson was again outstanding and I thought Hodson was reasonable.

Typical Millwall played dirty and the ref was far too lenient!

I do wonder why we are playing Weiman over Sordell when Sordell has been so good this season. It'd be better for him to continue developing than benchwarm to let someone else's youth develop.

Didn't go today, as I had to work, but I'm glad the players put in a good performance. Sounds like we rode our luck at times, and got the usual "nothing" from the referee. I dont expect a positive result on Tuesday, so it was good to know we are now safe in all probability, if not mathimatically.

A push for the playoffs is beyond us though. We would have to win 8 of the last 12 to do that which is too unrealistic. Mid-table is still a good achievement and some great results along the way this season. This all bodes well for the future.

I'm a big fan of Weimann; his work rate is fantastic. Sordell, on the other hand, comes on for 20 minutes and looks like he's saving himself for something.

I thought Weimann was largely innefective, although this was down to the direct football we were playing and not his fault.

You can see he's got something about him though.

From his 20 minutes, you might have thought Marvin had won a competition in a newspaper to play for his team or something. He was redolent of Jason Norville.

I thought Millwall had at least 4 good chances to score, so I think we road our luck a little today, but hey recently it's been the other way round.

re. Weimann over Sordell; I agree about Weimann and his closing down of defenders being better than Marvin but I wonder if the foot injury Sordell had (has?) is stopping him starting?

    As for today...

Loach - Well played. A bit of luck with the parried saves finding safety rather than a Millwall player but he looked sharp today. As someone already mentioned that save to his right in the 2nd-half was top drawer.

Thompson - Another impressive display. Not perfect by a long chalk but he's showing maturity beyond his years. Obviously still feeling the effects of his illness and looked physically shot before being replaced.
Hodson - Well done son! Kept things simple and didn't dither with his decision making. Backed up what he'd said in the Watford Observer on Friday so well done for that.
Taylor - The big physical presence that was needed today as well as his usual composure on the ball.
Mariappa - Very solid display defensively and a great run in the 1st-half down our right wing. Like Tayor, Aidy was physically strong and rarely put a foot wrong.

Buckley - Started well and had the beating of their full-back on the few occasions he was able to run at him. Some nice touches & turns where needed but faded quickly in the 2nd-half where he hardly touched the ball. Probably not even 85% fit so a good shift put in.
Deeney - As usual he ran and ran and kept the shape of the midfield well. He's not a right winger so I'm not going to criticise any failings he has there because he's doing a job for the team. For the last 10-15mins he swapped with Graham and played up top as the team dropped back and he occupied the centre backs well.
Cowie - An excellent performance in what is his better position of centre midfield. Ran & ran and played the simple ball time and again. Maybe dropped a little deep at times but it's far better to have the ball played sideways in front of you than have it passed in behind you.
Jenkins - Seemed to take a little while to get to grips with either the game or his partnership with Cowie but did an excellent job overall. Like his Scottish team mate he just kept things simple with the ball and was a nuisance as he snapped away with his challenges without it.

Weimann - As is now expected his workrate is second to none and looks dangerous when he's able to run at defenders because of his pace. Combative and willing but no chances of note to put the ball away. Considering he went off with a knock last Saturday then played for an hour or so for Villa reserves midweek, his energy levels were impressive.
Graham - Ran & ran and then he ran some more. This front two must be a nightmare to play against! Took the goal superbly with the way he let the ball run before letting loose a wicked right foot shot and it reminded me a little of Robin van Persie (had it been on the Arsenal mans left). I can't remember him having another chance but did a brilliant job for the side.

    subs.
Bennett (for Thompson) - One fantastic sliding block alongside Loach soon after coming on and like the others he didn't try anything complicated with the ball. Solid.
Mingoia (for Buckley) - Little chance to shine going forward but protected Hodson well and harried for all he was worth. Good stuff.
Sordell (for Weimann) - One sharp snap shot that rocketed into the keepers arms from an acute angle otherwise it was chase the ball time for the most part. Looked a little off the pace when he first came on but did okay.

Oxhey67 - I didn't spout so much rubbish at the ground today so that was good for those around me and I've just had the longest pee of my life which I'll look back on with pride in years to come.

Against a very physical side we did well to stand up to them for the most part.
Despite all the individual praise I've given each player it can't be ignored that Millwall had several excellent chances to score in the 1st-half and Morrison should have at least hit the target in the second period.
I don't think their chances came about through any major individual errors on our part but some half decent play of their own though it's about time a team didn't put every opportunity away when playing us!
As the fella near me said, we rode our luck and won a game we probably would have been happy accepting a draw with on the number of chances each side had. But if you don't take your chances then it'll come back and bite you on the backside as we have experienced ourselves during this winless run.

The ref and both assistants were just poor. Very very poor.

Were we at the same game? Deeney put in a really good shift. Very unselfish and his defensive work was excellent.

I don't think his best position is out wide, so it is obvious he is doing a job for the team not himself. I don't think anyone in a yellow shirt could be seriously faulted today! Not pretty but a much needed win.

Not the best performance ever, but a decent 3 points none the less. After some of the chances millwall missed in the 1st half it seemed like it was going to be our day. The goal was well taken by graham and probaley our ownly real chance of the game.

I wouldnt agree that the goal was undeserved because i thought the team worked & battled very hard today - but we would have felt hard done by if the sides had been reversed.

Thought Hodson played much better than previous outings and Jenkins had a good game in the centre, particualry liked how he tried to bring the ball donw before playing a simple pass. Taylor was decent again as was Thompson. Cowie worked hard, as did Deeney but he's no wide player by any stretch of the imagination.

Jenkins was only in it for the last 15 mins + injury time. Up till then he was a very slow moving headless chicken. What u lot drinking before and during the game?

Why would you never think to include those two? They are reasonable players, not the best, agreed, but they always work hard, maybe if they got more cheers than jeers, they'd improve more and then before long you'll be saying how good they are!

Liverpool maybe, to me I get the feeling he's read all the reports of how well he has been doing and now doesn't feel he has to put the shift in he was doing previously. Weimann any day of the week at the moment - he reminds me of a young Heidar - non-stop energy.

Thought we did very well against a very physical side.

Read the shout box at HT and Deeny for some reason was getting pelters, but in reality he did a fantastic job today and playe the last 10 minutes with cramp without fussy.

Jenkins was sublime. Its easy to forget that his still only 21. Nothing passed him today and his passing was fantastic. Cowie gave the ball away far to much and although he was everywhere, center midfield isn't the position where you can room where ever when ever.

Thompson was dead on his feet but again was outstanding and Hodson seemed much more confidant and relaxed.

Loach made one routine save but still looked nearvous and indecisive. £4m ? take it.

A very very good win against an expirianced and physical side. Still 12th from bottom.

  35. Evasive

    Evasive Requiescat in pace

I was impressed with Jenkins' midfield performance today. Normally ineffective is a polite way of describing his performances, but today he played very well when we really needed someone to step up and fill in for John Eustace.

Loach managed to come off his line a couple of times, as well as making a couple of top saves.

Hodson has had a couple of people getting on his back recently, but I didn't think he did too badly today. Thompson played well at right back, and providing he doesn't burn out could mature into a good player for us.

I guess the best part of today was the result. We have struggled for points recently and will most probably struggle to get something out of the game on Tuesday, so 3 points today and hopefully 3 points against the Blunts will help us get back on track.
