Really? It was good to have Eustace back as our midfield look more solid, but I thought that with Eustace playing the more defensive role McGinn added very little going forward, was pretty anomalous in the first half, as well as being pretty anomalous in the second half. cowie was missed tonight as he can create something.

Palace must be delighted they achieved their two main aims: stop DG being a threat which they did and stop us passing it which they did (along with our help). After DG losing about 8 headers in a row and them looking bigger than us, why we persisted in hoofing it rather than trying to play to our strengths and where we have excelled this season: passing the ball on the ground, I do not know

i thought Hodson was terrible, every time he had the ball i was worried he was going to get out-muscled. his distribution was terrible, so no changes there. we looked better in midfeild with J.E back. Taylor and Mariappa also had very good games. Weiman looked good, although he did seem to moan alot.

Seriously, where are they getting these refs from? He ruined the game 2nd half, there was no flow. An utter joke.

Taylor shirt was more or less being taken off him when he headed near the end when the player cleared off the line. Stone wall pen!

Playing a clever passing game is probably very difficult in thick fog.

The loanees need time to settle in, but I wasn't happy with Townsend's attitude. Show pony, as Matimbers has said. No idea about Drinkwater, as he ran away from me into the fog every time he got the ball. Weimann started well, but seemed to fade (or was that the fog?).

DG almost as poor as Saturday, and Buckley worse. He was well marked, but never really tried to run at his man. Hodson also as bad as on Saturday. Lloyd will never really be a left back, but he did superbly when outnumbered by a Palace breakaway in the second half, ad was generally sound. But our oldest players, Taylor and Eustace, were the only ones that really had a good game.

    Total idiot!!
Deeney was only on for 3 minutes.
Why is he always made the scapegoat for a poor performance?

Townsend is good going forward, but needs to learn to track back if he is to fit into the Watford Way.

Same at Cardiff, but at least he made Weimann's goal.

We need Don Cowie back urgently, and of course another left back!

Hey Ron, thanks for the highlights.

Might be taking the peas but due to my computer illiteracy, is there any chance of putting something like that up on a regular basis?

Fog was firking awful. 39 degrees here in Perth

I think Deeney needs to go out on loan to a Greek side as soon as possible.

A disappointing result though a better performance than the Brighton game. Definately 2 points dropped as i thought palace where quite a poor side that had nothing to offer outside of constant niggiling fouls, shirt pulling etc.

The team lacks balance atm and not just at left back. The right back slot is a worry with neither Hodson or Marriappa impressing there in recent games. Infact the distribution from the pair of them last night was poor.

I think that if Marriappa hadnt been harshly penalised for a great sliding challenge 5/10 mins earlier in the game, then he would have done more to prevent the goal.

Keith Stroud was abysmal. Inconsistant and finiky, not to mention he bottled the two big decisions of the night. First he gave a goal kick when it should have been a penalty after their defender punched the ball out of play - despite only being 5 yards away and then he failed to issue a 2nd yellow to a palace player that deliberatly kicked the ball away after a free kick had been given and had only just been booked for the 1st yellow minutes earlier.
Its been awhile since we've had a ref as bad as him.

Of the 3 loanees, i thought Drinkwater & Wiemmann showed some promise tbh. Townsend needs to adjust still to the pace of the game in the championship.

In a way though it is just LB that is a problem, as once we get a LB in Sir Lloyd will go back to RB where he looks far more steady than either Mariappa or Hodson in my opinion.

Buckley seems to be more limited when Hodson plays, as if he has to come a lot shorter to him when in possession, so when Buckley does get the ball, he's in his own half and double marked instead of running at their full back or in behind their defence like he should be.

Townsend sounds like a 'luxury' player to me, all fancy flicks and no work ethic. Sounds like he's a 20 minute impact sub to me, his pace would scare sides on the counter-attack, but he shouldn't be starting at Florist, IMO.

I would personally go back to playing 4-5-1 with McGinn just behind Graham. This is the formation we played at QPR and totally dismantled them in midfield.

Buckley, Cowie, Mutch and McGinn all supported Graham really well that night with Eustace holding. No reason why Drinkwater, Buckley, Whichelow and McGinn can't do that on Saturday.

Sounds like we may have been a bit one-dimensional last night without Sordell's pace and movement. Graham and Weimann sound a bit similar.

Get Whichelow in for Townsend on Saturday and play 5 in midfield.

You forget that Mutch was a physical presence, and without Cowie we are very exposed defensively.

Without those two our midfield is weak and they can exploit the Cowie flank far easier.

McGinn looked excellent in the hole behind Graham though.

I thought the back four played well last night, i thought Hodson passing was spot on last night , he played some killer passes to the forward line several
times times in the second half i dont know what game you were watching.

  22. People see what they want to see. I also think hat the standard of eyesight is abysmal, particularly around me - the Berk (shire Hunt) behind me is always gobbing off about the wrong player - if Deeney or McGinn were in all the places this clown thought they made mistakes they would make Danny Graham look like a lazy b'stard.

I think Taylor was wrong nkt to make some sort of appeal - a forward such as Helguson, Graham and CERTAINLY Shearer would havd gone down, stayed down or at least shouted at the ref for a free kick

I know I am sort of criticising MT for being a gentleman but honestly if one of OUR defenders pulled at an opposition player's shirt in their box I don't think there would be many complaints about a pen or yellow card being awarded

Thd officials last nighg were inconsistent and frequently bottled the big decisions.......in fact I NOTICED the referee throughout whereas a good official is largely anonymous

I thought Townsend showed a huge amount of potential for the first 30 minutes or so, going round players, pinching it through Palace's legs and providing a good few crosses. Sadly he faded in the second half, though hopefully with a little bit more time he'll settle in!

Couldn't really see much of Drinkwater due to the fog, though he seemed to do alright. Weimann seemed to be everywhere, and jumped alot (his nickname could be Wiggly Wiggly Wiemann :D)

Hodson seemed a bit hit and miss, though seemed to settle in to the match and improved.

The ref and linesmen were appaling, we should have had at least one penalty. Taylor's shirt was litterally pulled up to his shoulders on more than one occassion, the most obvious shirt pulling I've ever seen.

Without the fog we would have probably won, Palace had just the one notable chance, and unfortunatly took it. We produced all of the attacking play, though the fog made crosses and long range passes and shots difficult. :doom:

I didnt say that they didnt play well, i said that Marriappa's and Hodsons distribution is poor, which it was last night. But then again if you want to focus on one decent pass attempt out of the dozens that went straight to a palace shirt then thats up to you.

There were only a couple of poor passes the rest were decent maybe the fog clouded your vision mate.

If by decent you mean from a palace point of view, then yes your correct. If your idea of a decent pass is a general lump forward then yes, you are again correct. Otherwise im starting to suspect that you might not know who marriappa and hodson are.

Some times players are told to go long my friend, other times there not, some times your told to hit the danger areas, last 5 mins Hodson wins a fifty fifty tackle and side foots it 25 yards to Graham and we have a scoring opportunity instead of just hoofing it. Watch the hornets player it might remind you about the game.

It doesnt matter how they where told to pass the ball, their distribution was still poor and yet again your focusing on one attempt after nearly dozens of poor/failed efforts. But since we are just going around in circles now, we will just have to agree that im right.

Well name the dozens of bad ones, i can think of one bad cross from Hodson in the first half and two bad passes from Mapps in the first half, Buckley and Townsend gave the ball away much more and not a word said. How can you say it dosent matter what your told of course it does, if the manager ses go long you go long.
