People who moan about the weather being too hot.

It won’t be long before they start appearing, now the forecast is starting to improve next week.

“Omg it’s almost 20c, too hot for me” etc.

Just stick your head in the fridge or move to Ireland or somewhere and let the rest of us enjoy it. 30c, yes yes yes, that will do nicely.

And the nonsensical Met Office issuing their various weather warnings every time there’s a bit of rain or wind. Crying wolf sadly.

And Ben Rich, the most ghastly self-important weather forecaster of them all. Ghastly.

Parking fines. Bit obvious, but how is this legal? I dropped my daughter off at a party at Queens School last Sunday and in my distraction didn't notice the signs which the letter claims and I don't disbelieve are there. My penalty for this oversight? £100. £100 for parking in a school carpark and not thinking to look for parking restrictions.

The people who make a living out of this are parasitic scum.

If it's a PCN issued by a PPC it's very beatable.

Yep. The model works perfectly for them. Defund public services (whether hospitals, schools etc). Then make it attractive for those public services to pair up with private parking companies because it offers a source of revenue.

But, hey, there's folks who'll tell you that privatising things is brilliant.

Basically if it’s not issued by the TFL or the local council it’s a speculative invoice.

It's tedious but you have to learn a load of TLAs such as NTK, POFA & POPLA. Do not contact the PPC. ISTR that MSE has very thorough 'walkthroughs' - be wary of joining & posting on their fora too quickly as they're an extremely 'precious' bunch.

People who see pieces of paper, plastic bags or cardboard packaging and pick it up assuming it’s rubbish when the evidence to the contrary should be obvious.

I can think of four examples:
    - Visited my parents one weekend planning to do a fish pie recipe but forgot the recipe book. Copied the recipe from a copy of the book in Waterstones, and at a Sainsbury’s self-service checkout, some dim-witted shop assistant snatched my basket with the recipe I’d used as a shopping list in it the moment I’d taken all the food items out of it.
    - Moved my laptop in the office to get my monitor fixed, in the 10-15 minutes I was away from my workstation some guy from IT threw away all the packaging that was protecting the numerous computer components from the elements, damage and wear & tear.
    - Caught my cleaning lady putting my empty water bottles and above-mentioned packaging in with the rubbish
    - Have a plastic bag in which I keep my iPhone cable and charger, because as you know, you’re lucky if these things last more than a year. Was right next to me when I was sat down charging my phone while waiting for the platform number to be announced at Liverpool Street station and a woman who was picking up rubbish picked it up before I snatched it off her hastily.

The same could be said about speed cameras. There’s one cunningly positioned barely behind a speed camera sign in Richmond just off a left-hand turning from the A3 https://maps.app.goo.gl/kau6SRkEjrVdu1b8A?g_st=ic This means those turning in won’t be able to get up to a dangerous speed but can still inadvertently break the speed limit by the time they reach the camera, especially late at night when these things aren’t so easy to spot and you aren’t so familiar with the area. Caught me out when on the way home I was out of curiosity looking for a left-hand turning I was unable to take during the reverse journey due to it being closed the other end.

Unfortunately, usually you can’t contest speed camera fines because the excuse that you didn’t see/expect it is not accepted.

Yeah but I think the purported argument that getting people to drive slower, saves lives, is more compelling than, my overstay in a largely empty school car park justifies 100 quid to the car park company.

It does feel like we are being trapped all the time.

Reading on MSE it seems to suggest that unless I have a legitimate beef with the fine (eg. Its unfair) fighting it might end up costing me more in the long run

Was this fine issued by the council or a PPC? If it's a PPC there's a 99% chance it's bollox: incorrect signage, no planning permission for signage, a fine, charging for business expenses not costs, having the right to demand money, application of the POFA, proof that you were the driver etc. The list is endless.

Ha-ha! The Pedant-meister ‘par excellence’ attempts to defend his position with a ‘vague’ comment that, pedantically, is not supported by the evidence.
