If this was the other way around we'd be mighty pi**ed off. The Arsenal supporter at work just asked me if I honestly thought it was a penalty and I told him it probably wasn't no.
Other than that he doesn't want to talk about the match which says it all.

If that foul happened anywhere outside the box then none of us would say a word, whether it went for us or against. In fact, if Arsenal were breaking away and Richarlison did that to Bellerin then you'd say it was a good foul, knock him off his stride and take the booking for the team.

Clattenburg has come out and said it wasn't a dive.

No. As it stands, the two match ban is prescribed punishment. But. And it is a big but, it would be entirely reasonable to argue that it is unfair to punish a player more harshly for exactly the same offence just because the ref got the call wrong. It opens up such a can of worms that I cannot see the rule, as it stands at the moment, being viable in the face of being challenged on fairness.

Does anybody know who is actually on this panel? Is it refs only? Ex players?

Goodness, so conning the ref and getting away with it is the same as attempting to con the ref and getting busted. Attempted murder is as bad as murder by that yardstick.

An ex-player, an ex-ref & an ex-manager. They review it separately from each other & all 3 have to decide it was definite simulation for the case to be proven against the payer.

They have guest panelists like Have I Got News For You.

This week, it's Arsenal's back three from Saturday. I wouldn't expect a positive result.

How many of the fouls committed in a typical EPL match would actually be enough to knock a grown man over? Very few, I'd suggested. Whether you call it diving, simulation, gamesmanship or cheating, winning free-kicks, penalties etc is as much a part of the modern game as all seater stadiums and Richarlison's belly flop was no worse than 100 similar incidents every Saturday. Suck it up Wenger, your team of hairdressers was well beaten

We shouldn't be surprised that such a big deal has been made over this - it's all instigated by Arsenal fans, notorious keyboard warriors who are essentially football's equivalent of the stereotypical gaming nerds sat at their computers all day in their mum's basements searching for twitter polls in an attempt to validate their team who have been pretty much irrelevant for over 10 years now.

    Essentially this:

Sad thing is I fully expect them to ban him just a make an example and please the braying masses.

From the BBC Sportsday page today:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/41634341

The last sentence says it all, like I posted last night they can't prove beyond all reasonable doubt. Only Richarlison will ever know for sure and possibly Bellerin who knows whether or not the amount of contact was probably enough.

The available sentencing for attempted murder is the same as murder. So yes. And not just a yard stick.

Yes, that seems like a fair way of running things. I don't get the objection to it as it's perfectly logical.

Sorry if I'm being terribly dim here but a couple of weeks ago Dele Alli was booked for a blatant dive against Huddersfield. As far as I know that's the course of action that was taken against him. How can a retrospective two match ban be imposed when the only differentiating factor is the referee's decision on the day? And even if there is retrospective action, surely the punishment should be the same, a yellow card?

Richie baby does go down a bit easily. That is the thing that will get him a bad reputation as opposed to any debate over this specific pen. incident. He needs a shoulder to lean on. He's 'only a baby'. Quote. Troy?

It makes me laugh when players go down like they've been shot rolling around in agony only to get up 30 seconds later with nothing wrong, yet no one ever says anything about how pathetic they look.

This happens probably 100 times a week in the prem. I mean, they look like idiots!!!

Anyway. There was contact. It was enough for him to genuinely go down as happens all the time. It wasn't even dangling a trailing leg like always happens.

Surely this panel is for outright dives where there is no contact whatsoever. Any decision other than innocent sets a very dangerous level going forward.

I'd love it if Arsenal have a similar incident in their next game but with their player fouled in the same way...

    Correct call.

If the shoe was on the other foot Wenger would have been all over it claiming a penalty.

    Role on Chelsea.
