Don't see the Arsenal fans complaining about Coquelin's massive exaggeration of an "elbow to the face" to get a player sent off, funny that.

He just a bit of a knock on the side of his head, then holds his face in "agony".

Not a red card to me but I think Coquelin did get a blow and likely quite hurt! He wasn’t rolling around over and over like some do.

Had it been us and we were away in Europe I'd happily see one of our defenders do it, especially if it meant winning

And that, if we are honest, is the crux of it.

I thought it was a soft penalty but, after seeing all the angles, it appears that the referee got it right.

But if it had been a dive I would still have celebrated the win. Probably given Rich a naughty wag of my finger but softened it with a wink.

However, if a player cheats against us I'm as hypocritically indignant and self righteous as the next man.

that clip doesn't really show the instant pigeon egg that came up under his eye, as soon as the ref saw it he reached for the red.

Obviously not seen Bernardo Silva supposed dive, but it will be interesting to see how much the press make of it.

Could be the first 2 game ban from the FA.

They gave one to a Wycombe player yesterday so even that accolade is off the table now unfortunately.

Oh yes, actually I did hear that during the sky commentary. First Premier League one then, which is the same thing then really as that's when football started.

Just seen it. Absolute cast iron dive and should, without doubt, be the first PL diving ban.

Keeper went down at his feet, yet Silva's legs got tripped by the thin air.

I'll await the media and refs to go nuts about this like last week.

    I won't hold my breath.

He did.. but then didnt help himself by then clutching the wrong foot in pain!

Seems we are going to have to mull over every dubious penalty decision now.. probably until the end of the season. That is the only way we can exorcise the ghost of Ricky vs Bellerin.

It’s maybe a penalty and I wouldn’t ban him for it. However interesting to see if there is 2 days of outrage about it like the Richarlison incident which had more contact. I guess not.

That Silva penalty isn’t quite one, but I despise the ones that are similar to that when the attacker deliberately boots the ball so far past the keeper that they draw the foul. Gomez has been caught out like that a few times before. The annoying thing is technically it’s always a penalty and a foul, but the only way they can draw the foul is to kick it so hard they’d never get the ball anway. If they tried to go round the keeper with the intention of actually ending up with the ball, half the time it would be easy for the keeper to pluck the ball from their feet.

  16. The trouble with the retrospective ban is that it adds injury to injury for the 'wronged' team. Let's take Rich's 'dive' - a retrospective ban would not get Arsenal their point back, and would help one of their rivals (they would like to think) in Chelsea. If there is to be a retrospective ban it should be from the next two matches against the wronged team, either the return fixture and the next season's first meeting, or both of the next season's fixtures, whoever the diving player happens to be playing for (ie if he is sold, the ban goes with him).

I know this is flawed (could be sold out of PL, team could get relegated, if injured wouldn't be a punishment, and others probably) but at least it is not doubly flawed as the current system is.

OK - ingenious. But how about instant tv reviews by the 4th official? Punishment could then be applied in the appropriate match. Players are prepared to 'take one for the team' because it's a squad game, points are precious and the coach will give a nod and a wink and say well done. Somebody else will fill in for the banned player on another day, but couldn't 'on the spot' in the same game. You stop cheating by hurting the club results, not by retrospectively 'punishing' an individual player.
BTW the Silva incident was a penalty, but Silva also dived. So - what happens then?

  18. Not against this. But if they must persist with a diving panel...

Booked. That's all, as it didn't change the course of the game. No conflict.

OK. So do you give the penalty?

  20. If, as you say, it was a penalty (foot trapped under goalie's knee for an instant), yes. Why would you not?

Can't see anything different to Richarlisons.

Any mention of a diving panel review?

    Nope.

    Nothing FA???

    Thought not.

No issues for Wenger on the 1st goal at the Emirates yesterday - oh yes it was a decision in favour of Arsenal wasn't it!
