I read this season is only 7 episodes. so they're moving the narrative along quickly which is good in my opinion. No more filler episodes of travelling to somewhere for character development, something major has happened in each one.

The Walking Dead could learn a thing or two.

I've "heard" it's pretty poor quality (preview disc to reviewers?) so I'll wait until the weekend. But helpfully something's posted a concise synopsis:

[SPIOLER="From https://www.polygon.com/2017/8/4/16095974/game-of-thrones-episode-4-leak-hackers"]"Spoiler alert: Daenerys’ dragons turn out to have been Decepticons all along, and they turn on her, reverting to their robot forms before capturing her and turning her over to Lord Voldemort, who thanks the dragons/Decepticons before promptly betraying them and banishing them to Dimension X, where they find the Ninja Turtles and the Shredder and together vow revenge on Voldemort. The episode cuts to black with Luke Skywalker finding the Temple of Doom."[/SPOILER]

GoT last night, (episode 4 of season 7), was outstanding. I found the dodgy leaked one but couldn't watch it as the quality was so poor and it had that timer thingy running. At 10.15pm on the dot a load of them popped up on Exodus so sat back and enjoyed it in good quality. Without giving anything away I thoroughly enjoyed the sword fighting scene and the war scene at the end, with the final twist being the perfect finish.

    100% agree.

I finished Designated Survivor a couple of days ago, pretty good series.

I'll be watching series 3 of Narcos next.

I watched DS on holiday - a very strange mix of political drama, spy series and soap opera (I was hoping for Aliens to appear at some point. The writing varied from the really taught/full of suspense with excellent dialogue to the "usual" woeful crap (frequently in the same episode). I don't think I'll make an effort to watch a 2nd series.

The 3rd helping of Narcos was pretty much as expected and showed the downfall of the Calli cartel. The first two series showed quite of bit of the history of the cocaine trade and its relationship to the, then, ongoing Columbian civil war which really added to what you were watching and this was sadly lacking in S3. It looks like any future series will focus on Mexico which if dealt with in the same way as S1 and S2 could make the show compelling, not just good, television again.

Designated Survivor is a good watch.

I've just started watching Season 4 of the Last Ship - really enjoyed the three previous series and looking forward to seeing the new direction they're taking it in.

Binge watched Rick and Morty recently, it's alright but not as funny as I thought it was going to be after all the hype (Although I find that tends to be the case with most programmes!)

Will start watching Narcos S3 tonight.

My inner nerd is looking forward to the new series of Star Trek at the end of the month.

Designated Survivor was mildly entertaining but we gave up half way through.

I did like that it featured a US President whose main vice was his commitment to honesty above all.

I watched the first "The Vietnam War" last night...bloody hell that was an extremely informative 1'20" which mainly focused on the French (up to '58).

Time to put my nerd/geek hat on.

So, views on Star Trek Discovery and Orville?

Personally, I really didn't really like the first two episodes of Discovery, it felt like a rubbish version of the JJ Abrams films. Something that irked me was when Michael just casually committed mutiny and assaulted the captain, it just wasn't Star Trek, you know? I'll give it another episode but can't see myself watching it any further if it's like the first two, which is disappointing.

Strangely, the Orville feels more like the Star Trek I know and love, which is why I've probably enjoyed it more. The characters are a lot more likeable and endearing compared to Discovery.

Very true. I saw the 3rd ST:D last night
it feels that they're still scene/character/background setting
but you are right TO is a bit of a comfort blanket of old-style "Trek" which isn't a bad thing.

Also Jordan Klepper's "Opposition" is shaping up nicely - it's no "Colbert" but it could be. Excuse the clumsy language, but I'm looking forward to see how he deals with the Vegas insanity.

I have. They used to sell small cups of beer on the platform at 6am which was very welcome after a long overnight slow train ride from Munich...in the times of the DDR.

Disgraceful. There's no excuse for that whatsoever.

Beer should be served by the pint or fractions and multiple of only. Failing that I will accept a 500ml bottle or a litre stein.

Cups are for tea and old ladies or Americans trying to measure out ingredients.

I've enjoyed Discovery and Orville. I think the former is like a Battlestar Galactica'd version of Trek, which I don't mind. Felt episode 3 was the strongest with some interesting mystery elements opening up.

Whilst Orville is a lovely TNG homage that genuinely has that feel with a sprinkling of jokes. Feels like 90s sci-fi which was definitely the aim.

Both will have at least a few seasons I'm sure.

His film on Guns was exceptionally thought provoking which he mentioned before the sombre opening of his show the day after Vegas. But the next show he finally let rip:

I actually took Trevor Noah's assertion that during the two years he had been anchoring the Daily Show had been such a mass shooting in the States everyday with a pinch of salt...

Klepper's piece on the media's "Speedy Pre-Verified Facts" was also very, very good.

Ken Burns The Vietnam War is available on DVD and blu ray shortly. You can buy it from online stores in America.

Three series on BBC1 & 2 which focus on the emergency services are well worth watching. Ambulance, The Detectives: Murder On The Streets and Saving Lives At Sea. They highlight the pressures of the job and more so the caring compassionate nature of those working in all three areas. These are the people who we should laud and applaud even if they would not want us to do so.

I have been watching Ambulance as that has been very good. Based on your post I watched the Detectives: Murder on the Streets, it's an outstanding documentary series. Well recommended.
