Just watched the first episode of Suburra on Netflix.

For any fans of Gomorrah, I recommend it!

Just watched the season premiere of The Walking Dead, and apart from not realising it was on (saw it on Exodus 'new episodes'), I'm kind of bored with it now.

Hopefully, this will be the last season and a faulty wiring error causes nukes to be launched ending everyone and destroying the planet. The End.

The thing is that they're still averaging 11 million viewers per episode, and it's already been confirmed that it's going cross over with 'Fear the Walking Dead' next year so I imagine we'll have at least a season 9.

It's a bit like Lost, it's not really going anywhere but I've watched so much of it I feel I have to now see it out.

Guilty pleasure of mine at the moment is iZombie

I absolutely adored the comics - but the TV interpretation: meh!

No. 4 of Z Nation - it, so far, has been taking itself far too seriously...

Never watched Lost, but I know what you mean in that it's not really going anywhere. It's almost like they're waiting for ideas on what to do next.

So they're not going to do the comics'
"Walker Wars" - which incidently still hasn't quite finished
? Also isn't there a time discrepancy between TWD and FTWD of "quite a few years"?

The Walking Dead is so stale, they need to bump a few characters off to freshen it up and inject peril.

At least FTWD isn't afraid to take risks.

I strongly advise you invest in a couple of TWD graphic novels (I seem to remember seeing two in Costco).

Is the story writing better than the series?

  12. Bwood_Horn

Oh yes - the old adage of "The Book's Better than the Film" is possibly truest with TWD (and "Lucifer" and "iZombie" but the TV really got the feel of "Preacher" and "Constantine"). The original characterisations are so much better that the TV versions: eg "Negan" and "The Governor" are very chilling and not-in-the-least two dimensional baddies, "Rick" is an exceptionally flawed "hero", the comics have no problems of killing off the "stars"...

I thought that they had written themsleves into a corner following the "conclusion" of the "Saviours" storyline - how wrong I was.

I do feel that whilst not great characters, the Governor and Negan do have a certain menace to them but they have been written awfully. Haven't got a clue what they are like in the novels but they do seem cartoony in the show.

It almost feels the show writers are writing themselves into a corner!

It's probably an age thing.. but reading through this thread makes me a little depressed.

Why? Because the once proud UK tv industry appears to be dead. They still make the odd decent detective type progs & the beeb still produce the odd decent doc but outside of that.. zip.. as they say in the US of A. Talking of which that seems to be the crux of it.. the US has cornered the market.. again.
Looking at the shows most discussed here it would appear that it's become Hollywood for the small screen. Blockbuster style movies cut up to manageable chunks for weekly watching.
Dennis Potter will be turning in his grave.

PS As an aside.. what ever happened to the soap opera? Never the bastion of great tv production i know (bar Brookside in the 80's) but no one seems to talk of them anymore. My guess is that "Reality" tv has killed them off.

Fair enough, but the US produces vastly more amounts of television - 99.9% of which is shyte (US based 'Orns feel free to comment). UK television, particularly the "public service" bits is an entirely different kettle of fish - so far this year: "SS GB" and "The State" are stand-outs. We;ve still "got" the new "Blue Planet" and "Doctor Who" (plus the release of the latest instalment of the fantastic "Engrenages")

I find most programmes produced in the UK tend to end up being rubbish, it's a shame as there's plenty of good British actors in American TV Shows.

I did a quick Google search, it looks like there might be some sort of character swap, so someone from TWD to appear in FTWD and vice versa. I imagine it'll probably be someone who has been killed off, or is about to be killed off that will appear in FTWD (Negan or Abraham perhaps, concentrating on their back story?) Might help with their ratings as they barely get 40% the viewings TWD gets. There's some good characters in FTWD that will do pretty well in TWD.

Quite enjoyed the opening episode of the new series

This appeared in the comics (as a series of specials) and it really, really "fleshed out" (Ho!Ho!) the character.

It was a complete farce. I thought we could have done with more facial close ups with dramatic music personally and more random people popping up from behind a car to shoot not at each other. It was like a **** episode of the a-team with no end goal or plot or logic.

I dont know who the dreadlocked fella and his mates were chasing or why, it felt like to stop him warning the others, but then they knew anyway and, well they didnt care anymore. I don't know where negan was or why they waited so long to shoot people when they broke in or why they decided not to shoot, or why they all went in groups, aside from rick/Daryl who then split up anyway, or who they were looking for specifically, or why. Literally nothing made sense and actually I didnt care in the end who died or didn't die. Not aure if the flash backs are even flash backs.

    GoingDown "The Stability"

    First episode was pretty good.

Second one was all over the place.

It's been on in the UK so no longer spoilers.

Not sure what's happening. They are winning, then losing because reasons. Morgan should be dead but isn't because reasons. Rick kills someone and then there's a baby then loads of other people. Daryl is staring at a sandwich. Jesus suddenly has a crisis of ethics after killing hundreds of people.

The King is like the anti-HB1 and just keeps talking about winning when they are just wandering around in the woods.

    God knows. A dream?

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Only the red shirts died. Some guy who was nervous and a bunch of nobodies. Oh and Eric got shot so the whole team ran away despite having won because of the walkers and countless others dying.

To not either address or continue the Rick flashbacks/flashforwards was a huge error.

It feels like I have skipped an episode already, there needed a five minute segment where Rick ran through the plan and it would have worked better than the jumbled carnage that is present now.

Netflix recently added Line of Duty series 3, I binged it over a few evenings, that was the best series yet. I've not seen series 4 which the BBC showed earlier this year but it says that series 5 will be broadcast in 2019 so it's likely that Netflix will have series 4 available well before then.
