Rotherham its basically Sheffield isnt it? Looking on a google maps it is basically Travelodges and terrace housing. Lots of parks and a golf course. So an unpopular, unfashionable small town separated from a much larger City by a large motorway. Tinpot. Mixed bag of results for them to start this season 4-0 win against Reading, 2-0 against brum Sunderland beat them 3-0 Then low scoring draws Having played one less than us they sit at 12th but on the same number of points we were on after our 6th game. In terms of goal threat their top 2 are: Chiedozie Ogbene 0.6 Goals per 90, 11 total shots Richard Wood 0.58 goals per 90, 5 total shots Assisting they have Daniel Barlaser 4 total assists creating 14 chances They have recently signed premier league leading Arsenal's Norton-Cuffy as a defender on loan. In June they signed Luton defender Kioso if you like to boo when the teams are read out. Their manager, ex player, Paul Warne took over from Kenny Jacket (formerly of this parish) in 2017 He likes to play 352 as a primary formation switching to a secondary of 343 Style wise uses the counter attack with zonal pressing. Playing style is direct with variable tempo. (according to what Ive read) He recently, after the 4-0 battering of Reading, called Rotherham "A team of smurfs, They're not the biggest, If they bullied Reading that says something good about the little guys" So expect a bit of fight from the little guys! Im going for 1-1. We draw away and they tend to score 1 per game on average-ish Their goal will be Ogbene or Wood assisted by Barlaser Pedro scoring for us, a well deserved goal for his efforts in recent games, a carefully worked ball into the box and a good clean finish
Bachmann Gaspar Cathcart Hause Kamara Choudhury Kayembe Asprilla Sarr Bayo Pedro Okoye, Sierralta, Kabasele, Morris, Gosling, Hungbo, Forde. Rovrum 0 - 3 Watford 'Orns!
The last time we played there, we won courtesy of a Lloyd Dyer goal who celebrated by running over to the manager and giving it some.
Last time we played this lot we won 4-1 in our promotion season, I remember them scoring a briiliant consilation goal after we went 4-0 up. I'm still not overally convinced on what our system is and we are still playing below what we know we can do. Kamara will be RWB, and I hope Asprilla as a better game - he found it hard against Boro' on Tuesday so he will be up for a better performance. Rotherham always remind me of a poor man's Arsenal - they have a similar kit and play decent football infront of honest crowds. I think this is going to be another game where we sit back for long parts of it and try to catch them on the break, hopefully Bayo can bag another one and as we still have Sarr and Pedro (at the time of writing), I expect them both to start which will of course be a boost. They battered Reading and are having a surprisingly good start to the season dispite losing heavily last night. This is the sort of gane we need to pick up at least a point from, but are very capable of winning as well. Edwards will know who is staying and who is going by the end of today so we will have a settled squad in terms of personel. Then it will be a case of finding a system that works. Until that happens, we are not going to be dominating games. 2-2
Quietly confident about Saturday. By this time the window will be firmly shut, we will know where we stand with incomings and outgoings and really our season starts on Saturday!! Hopefully we see Davis in the squad. Hause could start after his very impressive cameo the other night. Bayo will surely be buoyant after his winning goal the other night, i'm sure there's a lot of pressure eased off of him now. Joao Pedro looks like a totally different player since the QPR game and has now officially confirmed he's staying! As soon as Louza is fully fit our midfield will look a lot stronger! The only sticking point for me is our RWB position! Hopefully we can get someone in today, fingers crossed. We are due a complete performance, we've played well in parts in games so far but not sustained it for 90. It's coming and someone will get a mullering! Rotherham 0 Watford 2
We seem to prefer matching up the formation against sides who play 3 at the back, so I'd expect us to do that vs Rotherham.
Following intense late window activity; Foster (re-signed 5 years) Gaspar Cathcart Hause Rose (re-signed 3 years) Choudhury Loanee Gosling Manaj Bayo Trialist Rotherham 5 (Le Fondre 5) WFC 2 (Trialist 2). Trialist later signs for L****.
The weather forecast looks a bit mixed at the moment...... My recollection from our last game there was that the away end was not covered (maybe I'm wrong - it definitely is now). My other memory from that game is Lloyd Dyer's goal "celebration"
Went up for the Dyer game, was a nice little town with plenty of cheap beer. Would recommend it. Think this will be a tough game but hopefully we should get our first away win.
The Rotherham Underground bar in the town centre used to be called The Turf Tavern back in the late 70s/early 80s. My one and only visit there (not WFC-related) culminated in me getting hold of my girlfriend's ex-boyfriend by the throat in the corridor. He survived, just. WFC-related, and in the same era, I was up for a showdown with the 'Rovrum Massive (RM)' at Millmoor, who strolled across from the terraces to the back of the stand where WFC Upper GT types were sitting (my mum and dad had come up for the game) and gobbed on us when Watford scored. As I climbed over the seats to have a pop (nobody ever accepts being gobbed on!!!), my mum overtook me, sat down between the RM and I, and told me to sit back down. I sat back down... Mums, eh?
A slight feeling emanating from this page that this is a routine match for us. Just to point out that they go above us if they win.
Hoping that we are going to Rotherham rather than just cruising around otherwise we’ll miss the game .
I think it would be useful if we discovered how to use some players in central midfield. Literally everything went down the flanks against Boro (unless it was a long ball). They controlled most of the game because of us not having anyone in there. Three CBs seems to be a way of trying to cover up our weakness at CB, but gives us problems elsewhere. I'd go four at the back this time if Hause is ready.
True, although now we have a settled squad (till January at least) Saturday could be the game Edwards adapts his system... but... he probably needed a RWB for that.
Team news doesn't sound brilliant. https://www.watfordfc.com/news/team-news-rotherham-united-v-watford
Based on no knowledge of who else is affected, my team would be: Bachmann Cathcart Sierralta Hause Gaspar Choudhury Kayembe Kamara Asprilla Sarr Pedro Subs: Okoye Kabasele Ngakia Gosling Hungbo Davis Bayo Have a sinking feeling that Kamara will miss out too and we'll be seeing Hause at left-back in a four.
Let's be realistic. We are mid table at best. Don't let the league table, results or our £55m front line fool you, these are all offset by the fact that our right back is a bit slow. We should be grateful for a draw against the likes of Rotherham. Prediction Rotherham United 0-3 Watford Sarr, Pedro, Gaspar
