Hopefully we can now afford to pay Deeney wages and extend his contract :)

So why, with full information, do you think they decided to sell him for this price ?

Yes, I think we are that strapped for cash. I wonder how many Champ clubs will go into admin this season? Maybe the ones that don’t will end up being the top 6....

For the same reason why they thought our defence didn't need strengthening last season I guess. Poor judgement.

  5. If a £15m offer came in for Wilmot or TDB I’d sell them yes. Neither is key and both are replaceable. JP no, he’s a way better prospect than Suarez is, and unlike Suarez is proving himself at this level not in a backwater lower division.

Id expect the club will confirm what we already know that he didn’t want to play for us. It’s a low fee, but there are bargains out there if we reinvest.

COGs will now take the fee off the table as a positive. It's now he didn't want to stay, hated the club, pissed in Ivic's tea and wore a Luton shirt to an old people's home where he appeared non-plussed about being there.

It seems obvious it IS going to make a difference & that’s the whole point. None of us are happy about that, but we have to accept the facts. People keep going on about us not having to sell are deluding themselves.

I think we can all agree that with our current situation, we need to sell more players before we can bring replacements in.

It would have been ******* brilliant to have been able to shift the likes of Dawson, Pereyra, Deeney, Janmaat, Success etc. early on in the window so we could keep hold of the younger and better prospects at the club. Unfortunately we haven't been able to shift all of our deadwood, largely I think due to the market being dreadful at the minute because of covid.

I am really disappointed that we have had to sell Estupiñan and now Suarez, because like everyone else on here I was really looking forward to seeing them play for us. From what I have learnt of them, I feel they would have added a great deal to our side as well.

If the reported fee for Suarez is true, I'm equally unhappy that we've received so little. In addition to covid damanging the transfer market (thanks again, China) I can only assume that our present financial situation dictates that we have to get more assets off our books before we can bring in cheaper replacements to hopefully have a decent shot at promotion this season.

I wish this were not the case. I wish Pozzo and Giraldi hadn't got us relegated through their dreadful decision making and I wish we could instead sell the deadwood listed above instead of the likes of Estupiñan and Suarez, but sadly it looks like there have been no takers this summer.

However, we just have to lick our wounds and get on with it. We have a young head coach who seems to be steering us in the right direction and decent young prospects in Joao Pedro, Wilmot, Dele-Bashiru etc. who really look like they are ready to run through walls for the head coach. As much as I'd love to see mega talented prospects like Estupiñan and Suarez play for us, ultimately what is most important to me is that they have the right attitude and work ethic, and most importantly want to be here. If Suarez doesn't tick all of these boxes, we had best get rid. After all, we can all remember our performances on the pitch last season when we had too many players who wouldn't bust a gut for the shirt.

I think this Suarez debate has been done to death now to be honest. I don't think there is anything more I can say.

The same poor judgement that achieved 5 years in the prem, 4 seasons with no risk of relegation ?
You're right, their judgement can't be trusted on the sale of a player they've seen more of than even you claim to have, until we are an established top 10 prem club.

But that's the debate. Some have looked at Suarez and think the fee is laughable. So it wouldn't be £15m for Wilmot or TDB because they haven't received the accolades that Suarez has in the past 12 months - we are talking £2m-£4m for those players when we are talking relatively I'd say if we are getting £7m for Suarez according to the latest - would you still sell them?

And Spain isn't a backwater. The top clubs is Segunda would compete at the top of the Championship - and that's where Suarez was at. JP is proving himself...in 3 games. Suarez has scored far more in his career to date. There is no way there is a huge difference between them right now in terms of prospects. If anything, Suarez has more evidence and experience that he can perform at this level!

To make it clear - I'm not arguing against the sale of Suarez. There are factors which may make it wise which I hope we learn. And should we keep others who are currently on the books, it will massively soften the blow. But the fee being touted around is a joke going by what we know of the player. Thats all.

Best bit is that we signed JP on the basis of his performances in the Brazillian U18 leagues which wouldn't even amount to a "backwater lower division".

The scouting by other Spanish clubs is interesting.

I thought he might fetch more.

But if he will be sold well below true value as some are suggesting, then why didn't these other clubs even bid for him?

150m worth of talent even with the much criticised sale prices. There’s other players that can be added to the list. But let’s not let any evidence cloud our judgement.

You cannot rest of your laurels in this game. Past glories are just that. Their poor judgment and complacency got a perfectly good Premier League side relegated. That team should never have gone down, but did because obvious flaws were ignored.

For me, it doesn't matter how good they've done in the past, it's the here and now that counts. We are back in the Championship with bigger debt than ever before. This is where they've placed us, so forgive me if my trust in them has been dented.

    Mario Suarez £5m
    Craig Dawson £5m
Jerome Sinclair £5m (and 20k a week for 5 years...)
    Zeegelar £3m
    Stuparevic £2m

For those good deals, we have spunked away an incredible amount on absolute total and utter dross, which I suspect exceeds the amount of profit gained on those transfers.

You’ve contradicted yourself in the same post. You state:

“Their poor judgment and complacency got a perfectly good Premier League side relegated. That team should never have gone down, but did because obvious flaws were ignored.“

The above alludes to the past, and then you state:

“For me, it doesn't matter how good they've done in the past, it's the here and now that counts.”

Clearly it does matter to you how they have done in the past because that is why you mistrust them and are wary of what they do in the present and going fwd.

Thats not my job. But the Pozzo’s have proved they can do it time and again. Recent example Jeremy Ngakia. Fair enough we don’t know how much we are going to pay for him, but it will be less than we get for Suraez. They will be able to get some quality in for £8m or whatever the fee is, if they feel we need it. If Suraez is really that good, why has no one bid more. It’s possible that every club in Spain/England is wrong and some members on this forum no better. On the other hand....

Do you really think the utter dross equates to the profit gained on the transfers? Please just look at the numbers with an objective mind, this is fairly easy to quantify.

Yes there have been some dross signings but that’s not the whole picture. And even if the dross did equate to the profit (which it doesn’t) then we would have still benefited from some good players playing for us.

Just like when we desperately needed quality in January to stay up and we spent 7-8m on ****ign Pussetto who isn't good enough for the championship,

Meanwhile West Ham (who everyone laughs at for being **** in the transfer market) brought in Soucek on loan and he kept them up.

Given we have had to pay most of these ******* wasters wages for the last few years, yes it comfortably exceeds it

Difference is Burnsy - If Luis scored that many at 19, then yes, he'd be going for a lot more, and quite possibly to a Barca/Madrid club. At 22 he had his first notable good season, and the season before that he had 5 goals in 24 games. At Fluminese JP scored 10 in 37 - Not sure how Brazilian football compares to the Spanish 2nd tier mind. Luis could go on to be a 20 goal man, and just be a later developer, but we'll see if he ever does come back to English football.

I was trying to point out that you said it did not matter what the Pozzos had done in the past as the here and now is what matters, but then you said what they had done in the past was the reason you didn’t trust them. I thought this contradictory but apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

But you said there is. Regardless of it being your job or not. There could just as likely not be anyone out there for us in our price range.

It doesn't really matter what was spent. What matters is that we were desperate for quality and he was Pozzo's answer.

Had we brought in a remotely half decent player, we very likely stay up, and we are making £100m in TV money and we hang onto Estupinan and Suarez.

Yet another in a long line of daft Pozzo decisions.

That’s a fair point about wages but I really don’t think it exceeds it. Plus we managed to get some sale fees for some of the dross as well as loan fees and wage contribution whilst some were on loan.

You seem a reasonable and intelligent person - can’t you see it’s not as damning an indictment as some people like to make out on this forum?

So really the only significant wastes were:

Overpaying for Gray by about £8mil
Pussetto £7mil (though he wasn't dreadful at Udinese)
Oulare £6mil (though we sold him for £3mil)
Suarez £5mil (though we don't know how much we sold him to China for)
    Dawson £5mil
    Sinclair £4mil

So that's about £30mil on dross. Basically all clubs have a sizeable percentage of transfers that are flops. That's not quite as disastrous as you're trying to make out.
