I agree with Forza. Foster, Mariappa, Success and Deeney played well but the rest were crap. GD and Doucoure particulary disappointing

    Thank You dear.

So you were happy with the ref despite saying we had to suffer him?

  3. Surely our inability to play in bad conditions means we should seriously revisit the discussions of putting a giant roof over the Vic!

Yes, looking at the other end that was a triangle shape was distracting. The current stadium is much better.

Yep the theatrics were truly shocking, the commentators (don’t know who) were well and truly fed up with the behaviour by the end of the game, I think several of the Southampton players have question to answer

I also however thought that several of our players seemed intent on getting sent off (Kiko / Gerry D) and it was only thanks to Deeney (holding them back on several occasions) that we ended up with 11 men

As predicted/suspected all the focus and sympathy over yesterday's match is with Southampton. Just watched GOS and they talked about the game. Sheppard and Kamara both agreed it should have been a penalty and goal, yet at the end of it, said Southampton can feel hard done by. What about us? It was all about how unlucky Southampton were.

I just find it strange that we seem to have a cloak of invisibility.

Perhaps a bigger club might still make an offer for him in January, but he should think about it before he leaves.

Reading the comments here it seems some people have got the wrong idea of why Charlie Austin's goal was disallowed.
It wasnt because of the interpretation of whether Yoshida could be classed as being in an offside position.. interfering with play or attempting to play the ball. It was because the ref (incorrectly) adjudged that he had touched the ball on the way in.

  21. It was a goal. It was also a pen and second yellow => goal would not have happened. End of. We would have won.

I agree with this, and it was made apparent by the referee pointing to the side of his head as to why it was disallowed.

From the linesman's angle, being side on, it looked like Yoshida had glanced it in. I've seen the TV view from where he was, so I can understand why he flagged it. Yoshida was obviously offside, but made a slight movement to lean back as the ball flashed passed him. That gave the illusion to the linesman that he had cushioned the ball into the net.

However, the referee had a much better angle, although still not perfect. It's hard to say if he could see the wide gap between the ball and Yoshida, but he was much better placed to overrule his assistant. The fact he didn't was probably because he didn't want to make a big mistake. When you're not sure and you're being advised by someone else you trust of what happened, it's the easy thing to do and side with the assistant, even overruling your own instincts. The same thing happened with that "ghost goal" where rookie Atwell was convinced of a goal because his assistant Bannister told him it was. He must have known a goal had not been scored, but he was blindly led by someone else.

The fact Hooper was a rookie went in our favour in this instance. A more senior referee would probably have overruled his assistant.

I totally get your argument, but being Devil's Advocate, there was no guarantee Deeney would have scored. He's missed his last two penalties after all. Also, a second yellow card after a penalty is given is quite rare. It only seems to happen if Kabasele does it.

I've seen Jon Moss give two penalties in the United v Everton match. Both players were on yellows and he didn't give a second yellow to either player. So you just cannot predict what an official will do. It's on a whim whether he produces a second yellow or not.

But overall, a draw was a fair result and both sides had a bad decision go against them. The fact Watford's incident occurred first, does mitigate Southampton's to a degree. But only in the event had we scored the penalty and a second yellow card given.

Yes sorry i should have said he made the wrong decision because of what he was hearing in his ear... and not necessarily what he was seeing with his eyes.

The incident certainly did have some comparisons with the Ghost goal. Inexperienced official going with the advice he's given because of not fully trusting his own instincts.

Correct. However it should have been disallowed anyway as he was interfering with play as Foster couldn't fully commit to the dive until the ball had gone past him as he couldn't be sure he wouldn't change it's course.

I kind of agree with that, however it was correctly disallowed because I hate Mark Hughes.

It was clearly not a yellow.

Next you’ll be saying that we shouldn’t have been awarded a penalty for the foul on Doucoure.

Can we borrow Rooney for a quick cameo against Liverpool?

He def made a meal out of it, was caught slightly then looked like he had been shot (not as bad as the Southampton theatrics though). He was moaning to the ref all match and to be fair if had been the ref I would have sent him off for A)being annoying and B)making really bad choices . I think he was probably moaning to the ref out of frustration nothing was working for him.

I absoloutly agree with TD having a word.

Except this time the ball actually went in the goal! Not the sort of thing you should have to rely on ‘instinct’ about.

This point was so important. Just seen our next 4 fixtures. Liverpool (h ), Leicester (a), City (h ), Everton ( a).

If these results go the way most people would expect, then our form could take a serious hit. After our fantastic start, we've just picked up 8 points from the last 8 games. If we lose the next 4, that would mean just 8 points from 12 games. It's so easy to fall into bad runs in the Premier League.
