How do you counter cheating with a referee like Moss? They had him in their pocket. None of comments distract from the fact they were miles better than us Saturday but I just find their antics repellent.
Yeah, great loyalty that. Leave as soon as things start getting difficult. Sends a really positive message to the players that we back them through thick and thin. You reckon you are so passionate about your hatred of Luton yet you can't even be bothered to show any sort of passion to support your own team when things aren't going well. Probably yet another 'oh-so-hilarious' wind-up anyway. Yawn.
I admit it's hard when you get ref's who aren't fit for purpose. But we just have to be mindful of moaning about officiating and making out there is some sort of conspiracy against Watford. We don't want to start sounding like a bunch of Wilfried Zaha's.
There is no conspiracy. I think in the history of the game there have been officials that favour certain clubs, and outside of our own fanbase Watford are a bit vanilla. I think we are victim of weak referees who tend to side with the clubs that intimidate them or clubs that have a big name. It's human nature. I think Anthony Taylor will be dropped next year. He's been really poor this season. Mason and Moss are too unfit. There are some good referees out there though and some younger ones coming through. But there are a few that shouldn't be anywhere the elite level.
Ahhhhhh, there's no better way to round off a couple of days of good old beetching and bellyaching after a defeat, than the traditional forum squabble-a-thon.
According to this we have committed the most fouls in the last 3 seasons-topping it twice and then just behind Man U. That cant help and cant be put down to referring over 114 games. I am with you generally on this and the only 2 minutes added on given their unnecessary time wasting but i guess its so ingrained they cannot switch off http://www.footstats.co.uk/index.cfm?task=leagues
Good find with the stats. Currently we are 4th, previous seasons have been 2nd, 1st and 3rd. All this tells me that we are being penalised more often than other teams. We were top of this in the Championship also. Bournemouth are 3rd from bottom, last, last, then 3rd from bottom again. So they've conceded the fewest fouls over the past 4 seasons than any other team. Seriously......they had Harry Arter for 3 of those seasons!! I watch a lot of football and I know Watford are not the dirtiest team in the Premier League. We are consistently being penalised for fouls, whereas the likes of angelic Bournemouth are being overlooked. Officials absolutely love them. It's quite revealing.
Likes of Britos and Holebas have hardly helped in the past but do agree we don't really seem a very dirty side - have a reputation for being physical it appears though. You'd hardly called Hughes or Pereyra that though as an example... Stokes/West Ham two examples I guess of teams who have roughed it up in the past. Everton and Leicester seem to pick up their fair share of cards too. Trouble we have that Capoue tackle flashed all across the footballing world as well as Troy's comments so that is what people on the outside see.
And I feel that's reflected in our support base to some extent (though perhaps that extends to all football fans). It just feels ours goes round in a circle and feeds itself at times
The next revolutionary step: refs (or another assistant) using a stop watch so 90 mins are actually played? I still think that hockey's (and cricket's?) video referral system (if your appeal is erroneous you lose that right) has a place in "elite level" football.
I'm not sure about the stop watch idea. For games kicking off at 3 o'clock we wouldn't be back in the boozer unit about 9.00 and for evening matches it'd be getting light by the time we got home! The video referral thing is interesting but given how most decisions - even when watched from dozens of different camera angles in slow motion - are still open to debate it would probably cause mayhem. We just need better, stronger refs and players that understand the laws of the game
A timekeeper independent of the ref is a nobrainer. I haven’t watched rugby league since the days of Eddie Waring but don’t they have a klaxon? Stop the watch each time the ref blows his whistle.
Maybe the main benefit of video review is that it would tend to keep the flashier of the refs honest. The simple equation ‘Callum Wilson + possible contact + in the box = penalty’ would no longer be green lighted without a second thought.
Yet he wasn't the one referee who failed the summer fitness tests they have to pass to keep their ticket.
He was obviously convinced by the Muff Player Tribunal surrounding him that Kabasele's challenge fell within the parameters of Point 6...that despite an attempt being made to play the ball, an "obvious goal-scoring opportunity" had been denied. I suppose it all depends on whether you form the view that an attacker with the ball at his feet on the edge of the 6-yard box always has an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Interestingly, Rojo on Pereyra in a similar position last season did not lead to a (2nd) yellow card.
I'd estimate that in hockey (a better analogy to football as it's a fast dynamic game unlike the stop and start of rugby) that in the elite matches I've seen where the "video umpire" hasn't been able to make a decision is around 1%. Don't forget to use the referral decsion you have to say exactly what your appealing about - not just "...you're wrong..." but "...you're wrong because..." Also I would guestimate that around 10% of appeals fail and then the player "remarks at the injustice of this" resulting in a yellow-card and a 5 min sin bin (or green and 2 min) - which is great because this or this gets played over the PA.
If say the ref had had a microphone like in Rugby we'd all have had an opportunity (or at least the video umpire would have) of hearing the extent of pressure being put on the him by Bournemouth players as they surrounded him and bleated on and on about Kabasele requiring a second yellow. I think then the majority of the media would start to them in a different light. I accept that Bournemouth aren't the only culprits (Spurs do it alot as well) but the FA might then start to do something about it as they are the bastions of the game and are meant to be upholding fair play.
Totally agree. FA,EPL, FIFA etc need to stamp out the constant cheating every time a player gets in the box and also the constant harassment of the referee. Its ruining the game.
I think we didn't play out from the back due to the poor weather so that was probably Garcia's call. Fear was one of our backline would slip or miscontrol as Cathcart did against Arsenal. I think on reflection that was a mistake as our build ups became laboured even when we won the ball.
I'm not sure football is ready for this and VAR! It's something that is worth considering though - although anything that involves giving the crowd an insight into the decision making process is, of course, not allowed in football.
I think we lost because the better team won We've got no Plan B (It's Zola all over again) Eddie Howe for England. Bournemouth for Europe. At least we have the FA Cup to look forward to. Do Wolves sell beer in the away end? Last time I went we won in the last few minutes - Chambers (or Stewart?) and King I think, it was also really ******* hot.
