Disappointing thing for me was Kabasale diving in rather than trying to push attacker wider or just block the shot. Foster may have covered it.

As for the game in general surely manager should have drummed into the team to watch out for bore muffs dirty tricks.

 

Whether he was right to send off Kaba or not (of course he wasn't), watching Moss puff round the pitch getting most decisions wrong on Saturday only added to the misery of the occasion. When clubs spend billions attracting the best players in the world to play in the EPL, why can't the FA shell out a few quid to get the world's best refs to take charge of matches? The standard of refereeing in English football is abysmal - reflected in the fact that there were no English refs at this year's World Cup

 

And whilst it was of little consequence, how the hell were there only 2 minutes additional time at the end of the match? 6 subs were made & then we had the time taken to bring Smith back from the dead, plus the insane time it took them to get back for the re-start after the 4th goal, let alone any other "game management".
I also thought that trying to fool the ref by feigning injury (a la Lerma, rolling around in agony to suddenly jump up as if nothing had happened) was meant to be a booking? The FA want "respect" for refs, but they need to at least be seen to be doing the basics correctly.

 

From the moment we went 0-2 and one man down this was only ever going to be damage limitation. At 0-4 with 40 mins to go it could have been a really embarrassing 0-7 or similar. I was perfectly happy for them to time waste.

 

I'm amazed that our disciplinary is apparently so poor judging by the number of yellow and red cards we seem to get. In all honesty I really can't see that we are any more dirty than any other team in the league. Are refs just a bit more card happy with our players?

For example Moss on Saturday seemed to have a real reluctance to book any of the Bournemouth players even with some of their petulant fouls and Bergovic''s obvious time wasting.

 

Interesting - moving towards professional referees?

 

I believe they already are - although they earn in a year what an EPL centre forward will pick up in an afternoon - so why not pay top wages to attract the best in the world instead of restricting ourselves to using the handful of nit-wits that come through the ranks in England?

 

Moss has form for it. Remember that 4-2 match at Chelsea? In the same game he booked Kiko for kicking the ball away, and didn't book Hazard for committing the same offense. He's always been card happy against us, and not so much for the opposition. In that game he also gave Chelsea a corner when it should have been a goal kick, from which they scored from.

For the record, since our promotion, he's officiated us 11 times. We've won 2 drew 2 and lost 7. He's given Watford 29 yellows and 1 red. For the opposition he's given 20 yellows and no red cards. 1 penalty awarded for and against.

So he's certainly not a lucky official for us. Looking back there have been two obvious matches where he's helped the opposition. Those were Chelsea (a) and Bournemouth (h). The rest of the games seemed fairly even, but he has given Watford 9 more yellows and a red more the our opponents.

 

Like most of you I agree that Kabasele made an attempt to win the ball and therefore he should not have received a second card. In the first half one the Bournemouth players made a cynical trip on Pereyra in the centre circle. The ref awarded one of very few free kicks to us but did not book the Muff player. As far as I am concerned that was more deserving of a card than the second yellow for Kabasele who made an attempt to win the ball. It does now feel that certain refs have a preconceived idea that Watford is a thuggish side and we do seem to collect more bookings than other teams who commit similar or worse fouls

• commits a foul which interferes with or stops a promising attack except where the referee awards a penalty kick for an offence which was an attempt to play the ball
• denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by an offence which was an attempt to play the ball and the referee awards a penalty kick
• handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (whether or not the attempt is successful) or in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal
• makes unauthorised marks on the field of play
• plays the ball when leaving the field of play after being given permission to leave
• shows a lack of respect for the game
• uses a deliberate trick to pass the ball (including from a free kick) to the goalkeeper with the head, chest, knee etc. to circumvent the Law, whether or not the goalkeeper touches the ball with the hands
• verbally distracts an opponent during play or at a restart

Point 5 and 6 are the ones that apply. To book Kabasele the ref would have to consider that either he wasn’t making an attempt to play the ball or it was an obvious goal scoring opportunity. In my view he was and it wasn’t.

 

Tottenham and Bournemouth caught card cheating....and I'm not talking about Poker night.

Clattenburg would have been there if he'd not jacked it all in to take petro dollars in the middle east instead. Every country only gets one and we had no one else left with the right experience who wasn't already too old. It wasn't anything to do with the standard of our referees.

 

About 15,000 who fitted that description.

Btw, there was a young girl behind us who was making her debut.

She certainly wasn't there with 10 mins left.

'Cheating'?

They targeted a player who was already booked. I'd be instructing my players to do the same. It's gone on for decades and is nothing new. It's not very sporting but as the article says, the days of sporting behaviour are long gone. I'm not a fan of Bournemouth's antics over the year - but sadly, for us and others, it works for them so I don't see why they should change it. Someone stated earlier that Howe has a file on all ref's and how they react in certain situations. Seems like a very clever piece of management to me and something straight out of the GT playbook.

 

Well, the weather will get worse although, more positively, I'm not sure Muff could cheat more.

I fear the strident & crystal clear chanting from the Rookery may have spurred them on.

 

Bit of a stretch to suggest that Howe masterminded the Sheff Wed equaliser unless, of course, it was Tindall who pitch invaded just before.

The harassment of the ref was only one arrow from their foul quiver.

The repeated diving in the last 10 mins in the middle of the pitch was a beautiful encapsulation of the Howe mentality.

 

It's just nice Bournemouth have got a little bit of negative publicity.

Their only other remotely negative story was reported like this. "Plucky little Bournemouth accidently broke the overly harsh FFP rules and had to pay £4.75m, poor little lambs. Football fans across the land should hold a collection to help these spirited little rascals out."

I don't think anyone is expecting them to change. They cheat and they get away with it, so they will continue.

Watford, with Richarlison the main culprit, were doing the same a couple of years ago. They had to change. Even our own fans found it embarrassing.

But whilst Muff get applause for their tactics instead of scorn, they'll continue.

The Mail's article is the first one I have seen where they have been called out. Good for them.

 

Now I might be wrong but the only red card that I can remember that significantly effected the result of the game in our favour was when Hendricks of Burnley got sent off (harshly I thought at the time)in our home game a couple of years back.

Whereas I can think of a few incidents in the last couple of seasons where a Watford player has been sent off in controversial circumstances; Deeney v Huddersfield last season , Zeegalar v Burnley last season, Kabasele twice already this season. There's probably more. Poor discipline on our part or just plain poor refereeing?

 

I didn't read the article as them being 'called out' sadly unless highlighting it is what people mean. On the contrary, the articles comes closer to praising them in their techniques.

 

We all no that Bournemouth bend the rules, cheat if you will, we have known this for many seasons. When we got promoted every other set of fans in the championship knew that they cheated. I think that in the promotion season they had something like twice as many penalties as we were awarded. I get that they are fast and skill full and will draw a large amount of fouls in the penalty area, but they scored a handful of goals more than we did, and yet got twice as many penalties. Those figures don't really seem to correlate to me. Add in the sending off that season at Dean court when Angella clearly wasn't the last defender, the absolutely ridiculous penalty at Dean Court the season before and Angella being sent off when he wasn't even the right player. They seem to get far more breaks than us or any other club, and after nearly every match Saint Eddie bleats on about how brutal we are and how his little darlings far and away deserved to win

 

So you're saying that with 'Clatts' off the scene every other EPL ref was considered either too old or too inexperienced to be trusted with a World Cup fixture! Is that supposed to be reassuring?

 

Yes 2 minutes was ridiculous. I guess he was either incompetent or putting us out of our misery. What really got my goat was the length of time it took Wilson and King to return to half way line after first 2 goals. And Moss just stands there staring at them patiently. Not a word. Awful referee.

I think the first clue is in the headline "... is awful for football."

 

OK I've just remembered the Chelsea sending off at home last season....... but we seem to get only one per season in our favour and maybe two or three times the amount per season against us

 

They are simply systematic cheats though. They push every angle.
- Every challenge in the box gets the full swan dive "just in case".
- If winning they eat up 40 extra seconds with a ridiculously slow retreat to half way line
- Keeper takes age over goal kicks even at 4-0 up with 10 mins to go
- Absurd squeals to try and earn bookings.
- Coach immediately wants to target the booked defender with more squealing antics
- Players surround ref for any vaguely potential red card challenges "just in case"
- Players in refs ear to remind him of his duty to give a yellow card

It's horrible to watch, and a real shame as they have genuinely exciting players. It is so ingrained by Howe and Tindall that they can't help doing it when the game has been comfortably won. The only explanation is that it is drilled into them on the training ground. I know all teams do it to a certain extent but Bournemouth just do it on a horrific industrial scale and have done for 5/6 years now.

 

Yes but if you go beyond the headline, theres nothing hugely critical of what Bournemouth did. The other teams get the harsher comments. Indeed, Tindall is almost praised for his actions.

 

I know. But it hasn't worked very well for them over the years as our record against them before Saturday is very good. I don't like their style any more than anyone else, but I just think our complaints about it are over the top. Much like the complaints against Burnley last season. They have a style and its for us to counter it.

 

Any goodness I forgot Arter’s “share” to get Chalobah to leave the ball to him. Thankfully that disgraceful player is now out of his depth and will vanish from sight after bumbling around with Cardiff.
