That could prove to be a very useful point...

    The current position is:
    • 1 point worse than this time last year (26 vs 27). This is 2 point worse than after the last game.
    • 6 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (26 vs 20). This is 1 points better than after the last game.
    • 2 points better than the '40 point' line (26 vs 24). This is the same as after the last game

Creeping our way to safety through the second half of the season, it's the Watford way.

After 23 games, for the first time we have less points this season than in either of the previous two

At half time of the Leicester game I was looking at the fixture list really wondering where we will achieve some more points and was looking bleak until Muff end of march and then it would be depending on there situation. Well now with the new boss syndrome to kick in we will be in the 5th round of the cup and have 3 more points by the time we next play at home. COYH

Slightly late, but here is the update after Silva's last game. From best to worst in a couple of months...

    The current position is:
    • 4 points worse than this time last year (26 vs 30). This is 3 points worse than after the last game.
    • 6 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (26 vs 20). This is the same as after the last game
    • 1 point better than the '40 point' line (26 vs 25). This is 1 point worse than after the last game.

Interesting that the lines cross where QSF had his purple patch and we had our terrible run with Silva. I remember how panicked we were in the NY when it all tailed off with QSF, little did we know we’d be in a far worse position 2 seasons later.

There are two reasons to be optimistic in all this 1) we are 6 points ahead against comparable teams than last year and 2) we have got rid of Mr "I don't care any more"

True but in that season we picked up 12 points in the next 6 games. Stoke & Ham are must wins imho.

Since QSF left we've invested £130 mill+ into the playing squad and we're still worse now than we were in the first season!

I know it seems like that, but we have progressed in certain areas. The midfield is a lot better than the first season.

Where we've not improved is up front and in defence. Ok that's 2/3rds of the side, but Cleverley, Hughes, Chalobah, Pereyra, Kiko, Richarlison are uplifts on anything we had under QFS.

Where we had better under QFS was at left back. Ake was better in this position than anyone we managed to sign since. Ighalo was better than any striker we've had since, but that was only until his form faded.

Some players have regressed. Janmaat, Capoue, Watson, Britos, Prodl, Holebas. Some players have just been disappointing Sinclair, Zeegelaar and Success.

We've signed some good players and we have improved the squad, but we now have a lot of faded stars, injured crocks and disappointments. It's those declining players that are causing the problems.

It's strange, but our crap players seem to be the ones that do not get the injuries.

These graphs are amazing. We got half our points total of last year - 20 - from the fixtures still to come. Imagine that we achieved the exact same results this year - we would end on a record 50 points. What a difference a game makes

Interesting thing about the comparable fixtures graph is that under QSF we started bad and finished well , if that makes sense !

Except that the comparable fixtures were in a totally different order so the last 12 games this year were spread over the season. It is only the other graph that simply takes games in chronological order.

Imagine if we got half our points in the remaining fixtures again. That would be 30 out of a possible 36.

Perhaps Im being whooshed but just in case... Yes, I am aware how the comparable fixtures graphs works.

No -not a whooosh but we may be at crossed purposes. To say we started bad and finished well can only relate to the order we played the games - and that is not the comparable fixtures chart. I could agree with a different statement like "if under QSF the games had been in the order we played them this year then ......." It just happens that in the same games as our last 12 games this year we got 20 points ....
    Are we misunderstanding each other?

I think so . You re over estimating my ability to make an intelligent observation, Sting.

I was just reflecting on the irony of how the points accumulation on the comparable fixture chart was inversely related to the real season.
