Beat Burnley away and we have 5 winnable games straight after.

Chance to really put some points on the board.

Sorry for the delay, things still not looking too bad despite a dissapointing result on Saturday. Hopefully we can keep 11 players on the pitch and Zaha on his feet tomorrow and we've got a good chance*.

    The current position is:
    • 1 point better than this time last year (22 vs 21). This is the same as after the last game.
    • 14 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (22 vs 8). This is the same as after the last game
    • 5 points better than the '40 point' line (22 vs 17). This is 1 points worse than after the last game.

*Okay, on his feet inside the area - and when in the area the ref can clearly see what he's up to.

Excellent work as ever David. Looks like we are mid QSF mini surge that put us in the comfortable position to be able to give up in the new year, quite confident that will equal out as we go forward.

It still is quite astounding how much better we are on a team for team basis, just at the start of a run on that so quite possible the gap will close but even so it's a big gap.

    That was very predictable.

    • 14 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (22 vs 8). This is the same as after the last game
    • 4 points better than the '40 point' line (22 vs 18). This is 1 points worse than after the last game.

Looks like Silva has reached QSF plateau. Our defensive frailty, ill-discipline, injury list and out of form strikers are taking affect. Huddersfield on Saturday is now a must win if only to stop the rot. Just want a safe from relegation, reasonably entertaining Xmas and second half of season. Is that too much to ask?

Great Christmas present there certainly better than all the socks I was given - its amazing how 3 points can make the graph look so much better!

    The current position is:
    • 3 points better than this time last year (25 vs 22). This is 3 points better than after the last game.
    • 8 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (25 vs 17). This is the same as after the last game
    • 4 points better than the '40 point' line (25 vs 21). This is 2 points better than after the last game.

Comforting to know that no teams below us won on Boxing Day. A confident win against Swansea, particularly by 2 or more goals would solidify our upper midtable credentials.

Interesting that I’ve read more than once that ‘40 points may not be enough his season’.

Looking at the league table 8 teams have less than 20 points with more than half the season gone, so those 8 teams will have to all improve a fair bit in the second half of the season to get to 40 points so I don’t see why this season should be any different.

In fact looking at last years table after 20 matches only 5 teams had less than 20 points at this stage, so if anything it would suggest its more likely to be less than 40 again rather than more this season.

40 points remains the sensible target at this stage - but like last year if we get stuck at or just below 40 we will look nervously behind us

I agree. I think 40 points will be enough again this year.

Our recent slump has made me uncomfortable thinking that we may struggle again in the second half of the season.

Yesterday's result has helped a lot, but I'm not fooled by it. The game could have easily gone the other way. Just when you think Watford have cracked in, they disappoint you, so you can never trust them.

15 more points needed, that's 5 wins. We shouldn't go down from the position we are in. We have enough winnable home matches in the second half of the season, but until you actually get those points, you cannot take anything for granted.

Watford have question marks over their attitude. Fully motivated, they can get results, but they do have a lot of lapses during a season. There's always a Huddersfield match in them, so fans cannot ever get carried away with this side.

Also looking at the GDs (+/- two wins) there are 7 leagues:
    1. +50 City
    2. +30 Man Utd
    3. +20 Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs
    4. +10 Gooners
    5. 0 Burnley, Lesta, Everton, Us
    6. -10 Huddersfield, Brighton, Soton, Geordies, Palace, West Ham, West Brom
    7. -20 Stoke, Swans

If we beat Swansea we will have 28 points - this season that is likely to be 10-12 points from safety with 17 games to go. I would be very disappointed if we went down from that position. Lose to Swansea and it is 13 - 15 from 17 games and that is much closer to out recent form.
Swansea is a very important indicator of how the rest of the season may go.

The target should always be 11 wins. That could easily be achieved by February, but knowing Watford we'll drag it out.

    3 of them away.

Here is the update, the question is can we do better in than the last couple of years in the second half of the season...

    The current position is:
    • 2 points better than this time last year (25 vs 23). This is 1 points worse than after the last game.
    • 5 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (25 vs 20). This is 3 points worse than after the last game.
    • 3 points better than the '40 point' line (25 vs 22). This is 1 points worse than after the last game.

I find the vs comparable teams the most interesting and likely accurate.

We've made a minor improvement over Mazzari and gone backwards from QSF. Given we've had similar injury issues to the Mazzari era, there's not much return for the outlay. *Is the loss of Jurado the difference?
