not long back from a miserable away match journey home. while at the time the three substitutions seemed the right thing to do all of them weakened the team with a less effective replacement joining the fray. I am sure if Deeney scores we go on to win by 3 or 4. Felt sorry for Cleverley who took one for the team for the first yellow. If we start the FA Cup game with less than 28 points in the league, i reckon that two year deal for Silva is unlikely to be extended. if we had got the three points tonight i would send Richarlison back to Brazil for a rest over Christmas, he looks physically and mentally exhausted.
How did we lose that!? Missed chances , silly red card and some poor defending. Palace must have felt Christmas came early! Plus more injuries..
Just back and if it's any small consolation to any of you,I'm sure I feel worse than you do! No train to WGC from King's Cross so had to change at Ally Pally. No train, only a coach. I don't do coaches so well, haha the irony of it! Got back five minutes ago feeling decidedly umpty. Made it upstairs and then spent five minutes vomiting, but it was still better than the last ten minutes of the game! Excruciating. I have no idea how Deeney missed his chance. Most of the people around me and probably in our section feared we might regret it.And the Chas miss and a few others. But boy how did we let that shower of ***** win that game? We simply cannot keep letting teams off the hook. Palace were truly awful. Cannot fathom how PVA wasn't sent off and why on earth did Silva risk Kiko? Please, please, please never ever let me visit that flea ridden khasi of a dump again!
I wonder if many people left early before the 89th minute, if so they would have been pleased or sick, I was too busy seeing us trying to defend with 10 players to see any suspects leaving early
In a relegation fight and desperately need the points? Come and play Watford! Can't score a goal and desperately need to score? Come and play Watford! Haven't won in 6 away games? Come and play Watford! Honestly if anyone is in some kind of rut this season then we are the perfect team to play. Just awful. I genuinely can't remember losing to two teams as awful as Palace & Everton. Even when Yeovil beat us 3-0 they actually deserved it.
https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/deeney-ive-got-my-mojo-back I don't know what bloody mojo's he's got back but it certainly didn't show on the pitch!
Just watched the Troy miss I am.affraid Gray would have stuck that away and the RVH foul was nasty and a clear red but that’s the way our luck is rolling most of the time this season
I know shot stats can misleading but we had 5 shots off target and 2 on target (+ 1 Deeney thing). That’s really not high enough to be getting a win out of game very often.
It's great having entertaining football, but we have to learn how to kill off games. All of a sudden we have a touch of QSF's season and the soft underbelly and lack of match discipline about us.
We won't be winning any games soon if Richarlison is injured. Not even Huddersfield. If we're lucky we might get a 0-0 and Silva will probably start Deeney again as captain. By the way Doucoure should be captain now in my opinion. Just to indicate the importance of Richarlison playing is that Richarlison has had a hand in eight Premier League goals (4 goals, 4 assists), a joint-high this season with Mohamed Salah (7 goals, 1 assist). And that's just the away games.
This is definitely not the answer, he’s barely capable of getting any if his shots to even make it as far as the goal, as bad as they are Gray and/or Deeney will always be the far superior option to Sinclair.
Actually, we were the better team for most of that match. Easy to forget it now but for the most part we looked well set up, well organised and barely gave Palace a sniff. And then came a nightmare few minutes of calamity after calamity that in such a short space of time seemed to sum up all our bad points of the last few seasons. Bad discipline. Bad injury record. Bad defending. Bad game management. And a tendency to conceed goals together in short periods. Simply awful. And again a summer recruitment policy that’s been inconsistent, making us stronger in some areas but definitely weaker in others. Was it really just a few weeks ago that we were patting ourselves on the back for all the late goals we were scoring, and for getting points from winning positions? Well now we are the proud holders of the record for losing the most points from winning positions this season. 13 in all. That’s shocking. All in our garden isn’t unrosy. We’re getting ourselves into winning positions, and playing well at certain times in matches. We had our chances to put last night to bed, not just Deeney but Richarlison missed a decent one too when shooting too close to Speroni when clear. But for Silva to justify the very high reputation others have bestowed on him, its high time he sorts out the sort of mess that clouded an otherwise good performance last night. Beat Huddersfield on Saturday and we sit happy on 25 points, which I think would be a fairly decent return for the start of a new era under him, less than half way through a season. But a loss or draw would mean just 1-2 points out of the last 15, and I think it would be naive to believe we would get through the rest of the season without a nervous glance or two down the table, with the likes of Palace, West Ham etc starting to win matches again. We’re taking steps to becoming a fairly decent mid-table team, but that rotten Achilles heel just wont go away. So frustrating.
That was the case after about 55 mins, we didn’t have a shot of any kind from then on. After 87, Palace had had 10 shots with none on target.
Huddersfield have failed to score in their last SEVEN away matches (since winning at Palace on the opening day) You just know what’s coming on Saturday don’t you...
Grow up. Prodl's knock was exacerbated by his failure to take his purgatory herbs to balance his biles and Kaboul is being bled daily to get him back to fitness quickly. Cathcart has a fragment of St Cuthbert's jaw bone strapped to his dung poultice to aid his recovery. Our state of the art team are doing everything in their power.
Woke up this morning and started to think about the day ahead. Then remembered the match last night. Still so disappointed about how we capitulated. I know that good centre backs won't be easy to come by in the January window but I think it would also help if who we go in for has real leadership qualities and could be our captain. We are in desperate need of a leader on the pitch who can sort out our game management.
Still annoyed. Got home at 1am as train was delayed. Got up at 6am to walk the dog. Complained to him about last night but he didn’t seem bothered. Why not try Success up front. He is big, strong and quick and cannot be any worse than the other two. In the last two games at Palace they’ve won both without having a shot on target in one and not having a shot on target until the 89th minute in the other! Hope you feel better IBB.
Yes - I think I try out success. I know he gives the ball away a bit but Deeney hasn't exactly been great at that either this season. I can't see us losing out playing him, or at least bringing him on as a sub.
I hate losing. I hate losing to sickening late goals even more. But against Palace? Really? What are you trying to do to me Watford?? Is it Christmas yet so I can forget about the football?
Yep, we can be happy we led the game for 85 mins before Ince Junior wins the game with two goals in 8 seconds. IN THE POND
Very depressing result from a match we dominated against a terrible Palace side. On a personal note the night was a triumph - managed a p!ss and and a drink at half time, which, I'm sure you'll all agree, at Selhurst is an outstanding achievement
Silva ignored a golden rule. Never take Troy off. Too valuable on the field with his hold up play and defensive contributions, let alone the fact he is captain.
Gray has had some dreadful misses as has Richarlison this season. To be fair to Deeney that’s not a normal trait of his, to miss sitters. I agree with your sentiment over luck, but decisions are not really luck. They either go your way or they don’t. Right now we are getting a lot of bad calls which is now having an effect on the team. I wonder how much damage the whole Silva/Everton saga has caused to morale as well.
Deeney is ruining his legacy the longer he stays. It has become embarrassing to watch him play at times.
All the usual & excessive post game over reactions are here present as predicted. Never was going to be an easy game & they capitalised on the sending off. We didn't play badly & Deeney didn't miss on purpose, but I would like AG to start the next game, only because we seem more dynamic. There are no significant problems & we will be playing PL football next year. What more can we ask for.
Agree with this. He should be and will be a club legend who will be part of our history, long after he hangs up his boots. But right now, he's embarrassingly beneath the standard expected for a player at this level. He's slow, immobile, lazy, unimaginative and, frankly, utterly pointless being on the field most of the time. He's never been about pace, but he just doesn't move now and is happy to stand marked and just get into physical tussles with centre halves, rather than trying to make any space for himself through movement, which might give him some wiggle room to actually make something happen. His ego seems to be boosted by how big and strong he is, measuring his own success by how many of these pointless tussles with defenders he wins each game, rather than how often he positively influences the actual match. His own priorities seem to be askew and he's no good to us as long as he thinks and plays like that.
We've got no defence, we've got a horrendous pair of strikers, we've got 1 midfielder left. I think we did well to lead for so long.
