It's about what he offers and brings to the team over the next 3-4 years is why I wouldn't sell him now. If we sold Deeney, who would replace him? I would not be happy with Gray and Okaka as back up.
Who would replace Deeney ? Like I said Okaka and Gray. Silva has already said he won't be playing 2 up front .
Agree with BRLR - big silly that. No way Deeney will be playing for us in 2 years time let alone 4 so why would we walk away from 25m and 100k a week off the wage bill. In 4 years Deeney wages alone are 20m so if we sold him for 25m the net effect is 45m(incl. 20 m of wages). Without doubt now is the time to cash in
Okaka did more than enough in the first half to keep his starting spot against Bournemouth. Yes he tired quickly and was rightfully brought off, but it was the first game of the season and he ran his socks off in the first 45. Not sure we should be cashing in on any of our strikers at this stage, unless we have a replacement lined up. Two premier league strikers is not enough for a whole season and Jerome Sinclair is nowhere near ready to be third choice. I suspect that Gray will start next week, but based on todays performance feel Okaka should be given a second shot at leading the line. Other points: - Doucoure is sensational - I doubt we will be able to keep hold of him after this season. Absolutely mental that we nearly sold him last year. - Loved Marco's celebration when he realised the final goal wasn't offside. - disappointing not to see Hughes near the starting lineup - Definitely need competition for Holebas - he got caught out a few times - Amrabat really is useless - I like the effort that he puts in and wish things would work for him, but he just cant beat players, constantly gives away fouls and breaks down attacks time and time again. Time to get rid.
My 2 cents.. - Really liked what I saw from Long John Silva today. He has set us up to be far more positive going forward, than we ever were under Mazzarri. We looked particularly good from set pieces, but at the same time Liverpool looked woeful. - Clippety Klopp likes a good moan, doesn't he? - Pereyra is absolutely key to the way we play. Gutted for him that he had to go off, and sincerely hope it was just a precautionary measure. I would go as far as to say that if he had played 90 minutes, we would have won that game. - Also gutted for Janmaat, but loved his reaction at the same time. Clearly, he is a guy that is really passionate about the game and isn't content to just sit around a pick up his paycheck. He looked so frustrated when he wass subbed off after his knock. Love that he was so gutted about being subbed. Good man, Daryl. - Doucoure is up there with Pereyra in our most influential player on the pitch IMO. Absolutely key to the way we play, and I predict there'll be a few bids coming in for him next summer. - Richarlison looked decent, has good feet and I think he'll be an exciting player to watch. A good signing. - Catlike reflexes from Gomes before we scored our 3rd goal. Heurelho's still got it - Amrabat's decision making is frustrating to watch. If you skin a player, don't dilly dally on the ball. Whip it into the mixer! - Did not see enough from Gray to form an opinion. - Suspect the ref made the right call with the penalty, but looking forward to seeing it again on MOTD. - Thought the bin dipper fans were rubbish actually. They only sang after they scored, then shut up again. Liverpool's famous fans? Ha! Get the **** out of here - Liverpool's defence is crap. They won't get Champions League again this season if they don't invest more in their defence, no question. - Vicarage Road was rocking in the first half! Such a good atmosphere. Pitch looked incredible as well. Well done to the groundsmen! - A fair result at the end. We would have been unlucky to lose that game.
Just watched the footage back on sky, stonewall penalty, really poor from Gomes I also don't agree our 3rd was offside and if it was, it was close enough to deserve the benefit of the doubt anyway
Britos' left foot was offside when the ball was played, even if it was a sideways/backwards pass. So little in it, that like you said, deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Disagree, it was a good defensive line and Firmino would've been offside if it wasn't for Britos dozing and being behind the other three. Then he made matters worse by slowing just as Firmino was about to take the shot. If he'd carried on running, he could've reached that ball before Salah.
Got an assist. I agree that he's not the right fit for the role, but with a right winger who wasn't amarabat we'd have more creativity from wide.
It was Amrabat that sprinted out, missed an interception and left a massive hole. Kaboul was still marking his man who did the lay off from which Mane scored. Not sure he did too much wrong.
They showed that penalty a LOT. By the end of it I was certain Gomes got a fingertip to it. Only very slightly, but that's still enough to not make it a penalty.
At the end of the day a very good point won against a top six side! A draw next week and a win the following against Brighton would do very nicely (please)!
How was the third goal Gomes fault? And with the penalty it was very close to being a super stop, Its a fine line for a keeper and he only misjudged by a touch. Klopp will be sacked this year, hes full of ****. Neither of our 1st or 3rd goals were offside. Neither defence looked assured, neither team looked quite ready for the season, the coutinho saga and us making two buys just last week and a few injuries on each side make that acceptable, but it goes down as a chance missed despite being a good point. Salah was motm but I thought he was anya standard.
Supposed to say Gomes has looked brittle not brutal this Matt Ryan Brighton have got looks decent Overall today happy with the point the next 2 games will tell us more
Overall the key message is positive. There are changes to be made and at least 2 more signings to make before end of month, before Silva finds his best side, but the whole way we approached the game was refreshing. We were awful for a phase at the start of the 2nd half and paid for it, though only thanks to some terrible Gomes errors. We can really improve, but from a good base. Amrabat killed football. I hate him.
Our 3rd was offside mate, take your yellow glasses off Good appraisal of Salah I think Doucoure was mom
Amrabat shocking again today, so hope we get a new right winger in next week Played well in the first half, not so good in the second but a good point
Carragher is a d1ckhead. He was nearly in tears at half time. They were arguing for about 5 minutes about whether or not Dik Van Dyk would've stopped the goals. They're both very dull.
Thought he was level with the line of the ball, i.e. not ahead of the play so can't be offside. Of course, with the width of the player some of him was onside, some offside so theres interpretation to be made.
According to verious reports, many pundits and football experts didn't think it was offside. NBC supposedly called the FA for their thoughts and the FA confirmed Britos was infact marginally offside. Don't know why Liverpool are complaining about the 2nd goal though, Okaka was never interfering with play. Only the first game of the season and the Liverpool fans are looking for excuses as to why they won't win the league.
Interfering with play a bit too by standing in front of goalie., hey who cares it stands and got us a point
That's a pretty wide definition of "assist" if we now classify a low cross that misses every yellow shirt, is deflected by one defender, ping-pongs off a second and just happens to come to a yellow shirt as an "assist". No argument from me that Amrabat didn't create much today and we need to rectify that one way or another, but the fact the he didn't create anything doesn't make our number 10 role any less of a creative outlet. Cleverley is just not that kind of player.
Yeah me neither as that would be them admitting they made a mistake and the FA never do that, but that's what they said.
You don't come racing out to meet a striker with a bouncing ball at his feet, might as well put up a sign saying "please lob me" Agree with you about Salah however, he was extremely wasteful, they'd have run away with it if he hadn't wasted so many openings when they were 3-2 up
The consensus seems to agree the final goal was marginally offside. Personally I thought it was a valid goal. How many times do you see an onside player square it to a team mate who is ahead of the defence and the goal is given. Not even questioned. Surely our third goal was the same as that. Richarlison squared the ball, useless Mignolet palmed it onto the crossbar and the rebound bundled home. Fair goal IMO. Anyway, after all the **** calls we've had over the years, we're due a bucket load of favourable ones.....that's if things really do even out.
