Damn these playing for country you werent born in footballers! That's correct though of course. I wasnt really using it at all.. but took the definition from the net.
A little insight there as to why Nyom felt the need to celebrate as he did towards our fans earlier in the season. Hopefully the racisms are kept to a minimum next week.
I don't remember hearing anything myself on the day but a couple of people mentioned it on here after the game, what actually happened?
Christ, you can't say the word 'African' these days without being branded racist. The world has gone mad.
I think he might be having a dig at earlier posters. For what I don't know, but he does like to take offence on behalf of others...
So you follow up your racist post with an blasphemous rant against the mentally ill? Shame on you. :]]
I think it's more to do with your implication that being African makes someone unworthy of being a boo boy. Otherwise why else would you have made reference to the continent that he originates from? I didn't hear it either, but from what I saw on here and Twitter after the game a number of Watford fans reported that they heard racist insults and chanting being directed towards Nyom.
The record for the amount of time the ball is in the air could well be broken, by an county air mile and then some
At least the world has lost sight of what really is racist. I'm not one for knocking all things PC.. a lot of it makes sense.. but i think in our determination to jump on all things racist, we are simply jumping on all thing related to race. Which to me loses the impact on the stuff that we truly know is racist. I'm sure if you had used the (correct) term of a 'futile Frenchman' no one would have batted an eyelid!
I'm not sure that the word futile should be applied to an object. Surely it should be applied to an action.
Defintion of context: the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood
I don't remember the anti-Nyom chanting at the Hawthorns being racist at all. All I remember is him being called sh.t. which was, and is of course, ridiculous because he wasn't and isn't. He's actually rather good and I bet most of us would take him back now at the drop of a hat. I've no idea why we let him go in the first place. Maybe I wasn't paying attention at the time. Was there a particular reason because it sure looks like a particularly bad bit of business right now?
I think it was because we originally thought Walter was going to play 3-5-2 more often. I remember during a couple of pre-season games, Nyom was deployed in the back 3. Perhaps they felt we could have brought in better choices at RWB (which is questionable as to whether or not we have).
I was really pro-Nyom and was disappointed when he went. His form had dipped second half of the season but then so had the whole teams. I'd have like to see a second season and he seems to be doing relatively well at WBA. Seems a real shame we let him go.
He was a strange one; looked an absolute beast for the first half dozen games - obviously catching Pulis' attention in the first home fixture - but I'd argue his form dip came a long way before the rest of the side's (even Capoue) and that he was pretty dreadful for the majority of the season and most of us felt £4m was pretty good business. Shows you how our lot might be performing with a decent manager in charge - LD's observation about not swapping for any of West Brom's players is a pretty devastating indictment of WM.
If I recall rightly (I may be recalling wrongly) he was still pretty solid, but there were generally questions on here over his end product and he made a couple of suspect defensive slip-ups (was there a Zaha penalty in there somewhere?). I sat in the lower GT stand and I'm sure I was still singing his praises on match threads about him bombing up the wing and breaking up oppositions play well into Christmas, especially at least into and past the Liverpool game.
I wouldn't particularly take him back actually, Luther is right, it was really only the first 6 games where he looked decent and then he took an almost season long nosedive. He was an absolute liability with the ball at his feet, and his opportunities to go bombing up the wing were severely reduced after that initial period. I can vividly remember the panic that ensued anytime a defender passed the ball to him in our own half, and he started dancing around in a circle like a spider on roller skates. About the best thing that could come out of it was the ball being knocked out of play, and as the season wore on it became very obvious that other players would actively try and avoid passing to him in that position, even if he was the only clear outlet.
He wasn't great. But it was a ridiculous bit of business considering we've had to play Kaboul at right back this season.
That doesn't tell the real/whole story, though, does it. We bought two right backs/right wing backs in the summer to replace him, both of whom you would say are of a higher calibre. It's only our ludicrous bad luck when it comes to injuries that leads to anyone considering for a second that we were wrong to let him go. If Janmaat had been playing right back for us all season, with the odd enforced week off seeing Bricey boy come in as replacement, or possibly even overtake him as first choice (who knows) no one would be looking at Nyom thinking "wonder if we should have let him go?" Kaboul being forced to right back is a freak of nature, and he is lower down the pecking order for that position than he would have been were he here last season, with Romeo himself.
Futile Latino sounds like it should be a thread title in our Transfer Rumour sections . My guess he is a 17 year old Equadorian goalkeeper who Arsenal, Liverpool and Inter have been eagerly scouting . But we won his signing over other clubs interest because Kewell felt he'd be good at chasing after all the balls his U21 s hit over the bar and into the M25
