Mindful of Hornmeisters request for clean language , I'd like to say by Jeeves that was was a spiffing performance , the players were top hole to a man and Mazzarri deserves a bally pat on the back for his sterling work

If deeney had missed the chance, it looked like a clear penalty as well I assume the defender would have got a red card ?

Having seen the replay it was quite a lunge from behind with zero chance of getting the ball, I have no confindence that the ref would have given a penalty had the ball not gone in.

I take your point - he and Pulis shook hands before he went down the tunnel.

Just seen Ref Watch with Dermott Gallagher. Over the Britos incident, he seemed angry with the sending off. He said this sort of thing really frustrates him. Bear in mind he always looks to defend the referee as his first natural instinct, he could not defend that decision.

He thought the first yellow for Britos was borderline and he "felt sorry for the lad". He said the second yellow should not have happened. The assistant was closest and did not flag. The referee took it upon himself and has to know the consequence of the second card. It was not worthy of a yellow leading to a red. "for me you can deal with this in another way". "the little shirt pull was not enough to pull him down like that".

He felt Mazzarri should have been sent to the stands though. "when you see his reaction, I was astonished he was still on the bench after this incident".

On the Craig Dawson incident with Holebas, where nothing was given. He said it was a foul and a yellow card.

On the James McClean incident with Holebas he said the booking was about right, as the kick out was not violent or malicious, but it was aggressive so yellow was correct.

So basically of the three big calls, he got two wrong, both in West Brom's favour.

We got away with it last night, although it did massively change the nature of the game, but because of the referring mistake we are further punished with a one match ban for Britos.

Yet not a mention of the 90 minute hounding of the 4th official by one of his goons? It was a f*****g disgrace.

I think they are a bit less obvious about it. If you throw your arms up and down, jump around and kick things in temper, it draws a lot more attention. But I do agree with you. West Brom were worse, but did not draw attention like Mazzarri did.

I'm not sure but does Britos get banned for two because it was his second sending off this season?

The first one was never a yellow, Robson-Kanu did his one good Cruyff turn trick and then just collapsed on the floor, flicking his legs behind him. There was nothing Britos could do to get out of the way, he got beaten by the skill but couldn't just disappear into thin air. It was his (and I think our whole team's) first foul of the game. Second was also ridiculous, he held the guy's shirt for a fraction of a second but didn't pull him back with any force and I can't see that it's any different to Rondon momentarily putting his arm across Britos to get ahead of him.

I thought the extra ban was usually reserved for straight reds, but you are right it is 2 matches as per the FA website:

This is where the rules need to be changed. You cannot appeal against the red card, because it was two yellows, and it's his second red, so he gets a 2 game ban......so the mistake is compounded even further.

It's all very well Paul Tierney driving back to Wigan, without a care in the world, as he will get another game at the weekend, and the weekend after. Unfortunately Britos will not.

I hope it will be reduced on appeal, if indeed it is a 2 match ban.

Last night was the best we've played since the first 25 minutes of the Leicester match. Every player can take huge credit from the game.

Thought we might struggle when Britos was sent off, but Mariappa came on and didnt put a foot wrong. He also took control of the defensive organisation and rallied the team.

I agree appeals against yellow cards should be allowed, especially when they lead to a sending off.

Also I think yellow & red cards are thrown around like confetti these days.

Anyone who has played football knows when a foul is deliberate and when a player catches someone because the player he was tackling was just to quick or skilful for him, therefore surely referees should know this too? However, they do not seem too, by the way they dish out yellow and red cards.

IMHO a player should only be carded if he commits a deliberate foul, and not when he has made an honest challenge. Yes, honest challenges that go wrong because of the skill of the player who he is tackling, should still be a free kick or a penalty, but not a card of any colour, cards should only be issued for deliberate foul play.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be possible. It's 'grit your teeth & bear it' in this case, I'm afraid.

    Spot on.

I've been surprised to read on here and elsewhere that Britos cleaned out Robson-Kanu for the first foul. It was nothing of the sort. I could tell live it was much more of a dive by their man who'd clearly decided to bank the free kick rather than risk carrying on and the move being snuffed out. For a first yellow of the match, given the two or three things that came before it by their players which were dealt with by warnings, it was a truly appalling decision. And then he contrived to make the second yellow worse when a final warning could clearly have sufficed.

Also no yellow card for Evans, when he launched his body from the floor at the man when he was clean past him.

Far more cynical and obvious a yellow than Britos'.

In fairness he probably tries to avoid it wherever possible as it's be such a massive effort to get back up on his feet afterwards.

A bit late htere, but here goes..

Delighted with Tuesday night's win! The atmosphere was fantastic and we genuinely played well. Capoue was all over the pitch and Niang was excellent. So glad that that little scrubber Mclean was on the losing side. Keep it up please, Alec!
