Yes I saw this earlier, just terrible. if I was Walter Smith i'd treat Lafferty as if he'd got the red card with maybe a fine. Players shouldn't be able to get away with this it's a disgracea

the linesman was right there, why wasnt he consulted?

And even if there was contact, since when do your legs collapse after a knock to the head.

On what basis do you propose he should be? If the referee thinks he's seen a headbutt there's no argument. Why would he need to consult?

    The basis of common sense?

What common sense? The ref just saw someone headbutt an opponent - the linesman is standing right there and shows no interest in intervening. It's only when you slow the tape right down that it's obviously a dive. God, if referees were supposed to judge everything by player reaction the game would never get going. Of course the Aberdeen player was going to say he never touched him and of course Lafferty was going to be rolling on the ground. Not much there for the ref to think 'Hmmm...there's something not quite right here'. First time you see it - from the normal tv distance - it looks nailed on red (in the current game). Only a slow-mo replay zoomed in clarifies it. The ref doesn't have that option [cue technology debate...]

first time it looks like a complete dive. no slow mo needed
