I am going to Glastonbury this year, but only just discovered that they have decided not to show any matches, including the potential England last 16 match on the Saturday (if we finish second in out group) or on the Sunday (if we win the group). Both matches kick off at 9pm and due to the clash with headline acts they are not showing them. Thoughts on the best way to watch the matches while stuck in a field? Or is anyone else heading down there with a laptop and dongle who fancies having their drinks bought for them for 2 hours?
**** Glasto cos it's an annual thing, the World Cup only comes around every 4 years. You can still sell your Glasto tickets and make a profit on them cos people who missed out on tickets are always desperate for them. Also, the headliners are weak this year imo.
Let's be honest, the World Cup is the same thing every four years. Just watch the football when you get home. We'll most likely be playing Colombia, Japan or Ivory Coast - I can't foresee an outcome against any of these opponents that is worth sacrificing Glastonbury fun for.
It might as well be. It's the World Cup, it's England being disappointing, it's Lineker/Motson/Hansen and co, and it's football. Everyone has seen it a bunch of times, and it certainly isn't any more special than Glastonbury.
A muddy field with no where to have a comfortable dump or a nice boozer with cold beer? No contest but maybe I'm too old. To be fair wouldn't mind seeing Kasabian but definitely not Metallica and never heard of Arcade Fire
Glastonbury is pretty 5h1te to be fair. You're much better off going to the Southside festival in Germany a week before Glastonbury, it usually has the same line up, is loads cheaper, better weather, better and cheaper beer! Oh and the crowd ain't full of posh ****s trying to be cool.
Hating on Glastonbury seems to be the new hip thing to do, but it all seems totally irrational to me. Despite its surge in popularity, the ethos has largely stayed the same. A hugely eclectic lineup (more or less every genre represented), not organised by some evil promoter, and a huge amount to see and do (beyond music). Cheaper beer? At Glastonbury you can just take your own and take it ANYWHERE on site. Unlike most maximum security festivals. There are c***s at every festival, much like every town, city, country. There are also tons of really good people.
Rock am Ring, Primavera Sound, Rock Werchter are all a more pleasant atmosphere & fun experience than Glasto imo. A few festivals that I haven't been to but would like to try are The Garden Festival, Exit & Sonar. The World Cup takes precedence over any annual festival however.
I know people who go every year. They love it. I also know people who think its a pile of overhyped rubbish. Differing opinions make the world go round.
