At what point should we sell Ash ??? IMO we should only consider offers from Clubs not involved in the relegation battle.
I would say that Nugent (who is valued at around £6mil) is a more prolific striker than Ash (both about the same age) and would therefore take £6mil but ONLY from clubs not involved the the relegation battle. Lets just hope his younger brother(s) are just as good
I feel you're missing an 8 mio option. If Walcott was 12 - Ash is worth at least 8. I voted not for sale at all, but I feel 8 mio could do the trick. The thing is - could we improve the team more than we lose in Ash for 8 mio? I don't know, but I think it would be difficult.
If he goes to Aidy and says he really wants to leave, I'd say £6M. But if not, we shouldn't accept anything less than £8M, in my opinion. The more determined a player is to stay at his current club, the higher his value is.
I feel that if Nugent is not going for less than £6 mil then Ash should be the same value if not more because he has proved he can do it in the Premiership. Nugent could be like any number of good championship strikers who for one reason or another couldn't do it in the Premiership. We've come to rely and expect so much of Ash (without realising it to an extent) that sometimes he appears to be underperforming when he isn't. Just look at how much more we suffered without him against Sheffield United. His best position is also right midfield - cutting inside, not upfront (especially when we play the long ball to him!) I've said not less than £8 mil on another thread, and i stick by that
Ah so this is where the Glory Hornet Boys have been hiding! (by the way I was away when the proverbial hit the fan at the official boards so if someone could point me in the direction of the thread which explains what happened I'd appreciate it). Anyway back to Young. Aidy has said that he has turned down offers from 3 clubs including one of £5m (Liverpool?) for him. What this does indicate is that the club will sell him. If there was no intention of letting him go there would be no reason to advertise the current bid, ebay style. Personally it's a very tough call. Individually Ashley Young is a talented but not outstanding youngster who will not change a teams fortunes on his own. However, as demonstrated with his link up with King, he does play significantly better with some quality around him. Now all respect to Darius, Mahon, Francis, but none of these players have the quickness of feet or thought to help Young going forward. If we were to get one or two good attacking players then I feel Young would have a little less pressure on him and better movement around him. I hope we hold onto him through January, sign some other decent players and see where we stand at the end of the season. Even if we get relegated he will still likely demand a decent transfer fee. Edit: Oh and I voted, over £6m. At the moment I certainly wouldn't entertain any amount less which appears to be the clubs thoughts as well.
welcome to the board siohmy I'm personally of the opinion that every player has his price, and if a serious bid came in at around 5-6 million it will be considered. Ash is a very good player, but hes not superb. Here he will be getting regular football, and if he had any sense he'd stay here for at least another year.
Would Graham Simpson do that now though? I don't think he would. Our financial position (as far as I’m aware) is stable now, if Simpson was responsible for the sale of Ash it would unsettle and or undermine Aidy. If we got relegated and a bid of £5+ came in i think Simpson would be very tempted to sell, but I don't think he would in Jan.
I'm of the opinion that we should not sell regardless of price unless we are in a postion to replace him for a net gain in money. At the moment I think we would have problems tempting in a replacement of sufficient quality. If however he wants to leave, it's not productive to keep him against his will as productivity and therefore value will reduce. I'd say 6-8M with sell on & international clasues is reasonable taking into accout age and other recent UK player transfers.
I think the price is likely to be £5-6 million with add-ons and I expect us to accept it if it is from someone like Arsenal who may loan him back til the end of the season.
Anyone who thinks GS has the say in selling Ash is wrong -he leaves all the area's regarding players etc to Aidy. It will be Aidy's decision, GS no doubt will agree to what Aidy says or does. One great thing about GS is he doesn't involve himself with the team, selection etc etc like some other chairpeople. GS is a model chaiman and unfairly criticised for mistakes made by prior chairpersons. He is a fan and fortunately for us a successful businessman who has not been given any where near the credit and thanks that he deserves. Mr Meldrew will no doubt disagree - but in 35 years of following the yellow army - I have never seen the PROSPCT for the club to be so healthy, even better than the old div one run for future prospects. The fact that we have rejected a £5 million bid for a player who may or may not be worth that amount is a change in policy of what has always been known to be WFC the selling club.
Just because we get £6M doesnt mean we will be able to buy players, players might not come to us and then we've lost ash and got nothing out of it apart from £6M which is going nowhere
Fair point, but......... Point made Bud, but the new poll does reflect Ashleys increased valuation a little better
If ash was sold for above 6 million... our transfer budget would not necessarily increase... Our directors could have some of their personal director loans partially repaid though... (which they do deserve to have!) DON'T SELL!!! BUY!! only NINE wins required!!!
