    It depends on the approach your nursery takes but, in essence, the government scheme covers 30hrs childcare in the purest sense (so not food, nappies etc) and only for 38wks of the year. Our two went to nursery for around 3 days a week from about 9 months right up to school - youngest is in Y2 now, so we’re not too far removed - and while the bills dropped a fair chunk when the government funding kicked in, there was certainly a balance to pay each month.

    Maybe you’ve just got an ace nursery!
     
  2. Ah ok. So we've always had to provide nappies and wipes. Food has always been included though.

    I wasn't aware it was only 38 weeks but still I guess for 38 weeks it goes down from over £150 to £50.

    My wife was a childminder for a long time. It never ceased to amaze me how parents would complain about the cost of childcare whilst paying well under minimum wage for somebody to take care of the most precious thing you'll ever have in your life. Childcare is absolutely p*ss cheap when you consider what's being cared for.
